That's a harsh reality. After graduation, we are all lost. There are so many career options available but we do not know which one to choose. Then we get gap years, nobody to guide us, or talk about career prospects and we start losing ourselves even more
real talk
Unemployed after a year of finishing college. I’m even thinking of studying something else. Totally get that drifting feeling. I never really had a dream job or anything but also imagined myself in a lot of different fields. Maybe I’ll do a master's degree just to keep me going somewhere. Dont wanna end up at a telemarketing gig but I’m not really getting any more chances with the pandemic. Living in a third-world country sucks. Be grateful guys; we’ll all get better.
you'll figure it out
It took two years and then tonight I found myself sobbing in my car when yes it hit like a bus I am grieving my college life and everything from the past 5 years. We will get through this
trust the process
Here I am, I got to this point where I questioned everything. Social Media is toxic. No matter how hard I tried not to compare myself and count my blessings I can't help but feel like a failure each day. I graduated this year, but I still have no job. Hundreds of applications. Idk where my life heads to. Simply just existing without a purpose. I thought after graduation lives would eventually make sense, but it isn't. And I cry for help. Good luck everyone
we are here to support each other.
It's been 10 months after finishing school....lost. sad. Rejection after rejection.
what techniques have you been using?
Just graduated undergrad, and yeah a degree feels great, but it's so hard adjusting to life now... it is so weird
keep on trying
I am going through this now. I graduate with my Bachelors in Biology and I am extremely passionate about ecology and sustainability. I am terrified I won't make it in my field. I want to make a difference in the world. After graduating, I feel lost and unsure of how the next steps are going to happen. Feels great to know I am not alone in this
you are not alone. connect with your cohort!
I have postgraduate depression but I have a good job. I guess I never thought my life would be wasted working...
as long as your learning....
Success isn't linear, you're allowed to have ups and downs, and it is okay to feel sad about it. If you're hitting a low point after doing really well your hard work is not erased. Here's to all the grads graduating during the pandemic (including me), we WILL get through this, just gotta stay strong.
yes!
i just finished undergrad this past weekend. took me six years and I’m 26. finishing undergrad was my main priority. I put it before everything. I already work a decent job. I now feel like the excitement i was anticipating from graduation is over. it was literally just a moment. really don’t know what I want next.
You got this!
So thankful for this video. I am watching this and crying in the library. Recently graduated with my master's and I have no idea what the future holds. I am going to fight this depression though... stay strong
you got this
So crazy that no one talks about this.. hits hard how much uni displaces you once you’re done
yes!
I just feel like I lost the point of living after graduation… everything suddenly becomes so gloomy and hopeless
I'm at my lowest rn because I just realized that I spent the best years of my life in college and now I'm lost. I made friends, I became myself... now that I'm back home I just keep remembering memories and crying.
focus on what you can control. its not so bad to get professional help too.
I'm going through the exact same thing! It seems everyone is going places except me. This is not what I had imagined :(
you are not alone.
This is so real. I was at my lowest when I graduated college...I thought it was everything I wanted, but realized a degree didn't do anything but push me into debt and depression
and you arent alone...
I just finished my undergraduate studies and technically graduated but because of the pandemic, our student life was cut short and the graduation ceremony was canceled. Not having closure from that student phase makes it worse. It all happens so suddenly that the shift is too overwhelming. I find myself breaking down from time to time cause I feel so lost. Adults have always warned me about the struggle after graduating yet here I am, totally under-armoured
thanks for the perspective. What are you doing about it?
I graduated 4 days ago, and already feel lost. No structure anymore, just a buzzing question of what I should do and be, which leaves me somewhat paralyzed.
Graduating with a bachelor’s was my only focus as a student. Now that I recently graduated, the future is unknown. I don’t know which route to take and feel stuck. I try to have a positive mindset but each day that I submit job applications and don’t get a response is another stab at how I feel. This video made me realize that I’m not alone. I’m going to get through it one way or another. Thanks for the advice.
I wish I could stay in school forever. I don't want to run my own life, I don't want a job or kids. I want to stay and complain about lessons with my friends for the rest of my life. I wish I could stay in school forever and never grow up. The structure of school is my life, I don't want to go without it. Makes me tempted to just become a teacher to stay in school, but it wouldn’t be the same. Sucks.
Burnout is a big issue in all "helping professions", with teachers and doctors also nurses, caretakers, social workers, etc. I've been a practicing social worker for 2 years and I can see how I'm being taken advantage of and taken for granted by my clients, my employer, and the state. It's very discouraging and draining.
On behalf of all medical professionals and educators EVERYWHERE. Thank you
You cannot believe how hard this hit me. Thank you for your words and knowledge.
thank you for the feedback.
your videos always come when I need them most. I didn’t go to a meeting tonight to try to rest from impending burnout. thank you for your content and destroying the thoughts that make me feel like I’m the only one struggling or needing a break ❤
Vet med is one of the most extreme, especially when it comes to depression and suicide. People often expect veterinary professionals to save lives for nothing and of course, they don't want to say no. No one leaves a sick child on a doctor's doorstep. It happens a lot with companion animals
I'm sitting here right now with work to do staring at my screen knowing it's something I need to be doing, that time is running out but even with the urgency, I'm just sitting here. this video speaks to me so much. Thank you for always being a voice for these kinds of feelings.
Thanks for your advice
You're welcome 😊
Agree. You don't tend to burn out working 100 hours per week if you're being well compensated either financially or in terms of life fulfillment. Burnout comes from being poorly compensated or being made to constantly do stupidly frustrating/inane / pointlessly menial tasks that take us away from those things that bring us joy/fulfillment / enable us to feel like we are valued/making a positive difference in the world/someone's life.
I feel like the first step is taking care of yourself. If you are in this situation, start with food and sleep and go from there.
I burnt out so hard I’m still not back at work 5 years later
I live in Taiwan and get three days off annual leave for the first year. No wonder I am burnt out.
Annual leave, lol. Be thankful you have that option.
I'm experiencing burnout now I was trying to figure out what was going on in me, and I can't think right thank you
I have been feeling burned out for almost 4 years now and I still could not take a break because of my own circumstances. I have cut off lots of things from my life to keep my energy but because the main thing that makes me burn out could not be cut, it just kept getting worse.
Burnout can be confused with hopelessness especially due to debt and still not getting anywhere. Not having anything to show for working is worse than affordable debt, but a debt that is eating you alive is sheer hell.
Thanks for the perspective
I'm burnt out of the things I enjoy and everything else.
Continuing to fight against it only digs you further into burnout. Finding ways to self-nurture and avoid sources of stress might mean eliminating energy-draining interactions.
So like 23 years of trauma and 5 years of nonstop working with no goals in place and now I’m burnt out. It’s been like almost 6 months. I’ve been doing Instacart to get by but other than that I just wanna sleep and be outside and have silence.
