Submitted replay in the mechabellum discord by JPapa, an 820MMR at the time of this game. Key takeaways: 1: Chaff, chaff, chaff; in waves 2: Temporary range in the late/end game in standard 3: Unit placement optimization based on roles 4: Value of range when range reduction cards are offered 5: Tunnel vision on the middle, look at the wings

Mechabellum Replay Reviews: 500MMR Elite Specialist loves taking out loans in 2v2
Просмотров 374 месяца назад
Educational replay review from the Mechabellum discord server. Main takeaways: 1) Elite spec with no chaff is very difficult to play, especially for beginners 2) Don't take loans; only when it's needed for survival or ending the game 3) Don't tech units before you have confidence that they'll be worth keeping around 4) Be willing to sell ineffective units to move their items to units that could...

im in the same boat man i didnt know till shing02 posted the mini vod for chicago i was like so bumed out :CCCC
Thanks a lot for the feedback, was almost embarrassing to have you confirm that I made the wrong choices more often than not. I'm going to start applying the knowledge given here and hopefully improve more as I play the game. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the low level review. I am new to the game and your review gave a lot of good insight into things that i need to change in my own games to improve.
Feel free to request a replay review while I'm live on Twitch! Mondays and Wednesdays starting 8:45pm Central USA time. twitch.tv/phoenixflight94
I apologize, that is my head hard core BOPPING in the video the whole time lol. Best concert ever (and I got to high five Jonah)
How does the distortion come on on the fly?
@@matiaskoivulehto5880 I'm not 100% sure, but it's likely they're using tracks in say Ableton and using that to send MIDI data to Henrik's effects board. So for example when a song changes sections, Ableton sends commands in MIDI form to the board to change effects to whatever's needed so Henrik doesn't need to tapdance.
I enjoy your commentary, you are quite the teacher
Thank you! I'm working on becoming a better teacher. Mecha has so much to learm that helping out newer players is something that's important to me. My way of giving back to the community after Rat/Cobrak/Rooster and others' vids helped me get out of the 600-900MMR range and have since grown to the mid 1600s.
First!
Apologies for audio issues, I'm not sure what caused them as the stream a few hours earlier went ahead without any audio issues. I'll see you on Twitch sometime! www.twitch.tv/phoenixflight94
bro stop saying bonertron like it's normal lmaooooo
Playing it off as normal is part of the dry midwestern humor lol
is Henrik gay? coz i have a huge crush on him and it will only be in my dreams and fantasy🤣🤣🤣 just curious✌🤘
No he has a girlfriend
Love the audience singing along!
speaking as an aggro player, sandworm is not the aggro giant. that honor goes to boats. between photon emission and ground cannon they're an essential piece of many developed aggro boards. also the early unit drop should have been wraiths for the defending player; they efficiently counter the wasps if the aggro player chooses them, and solve early chaff clear regardless. the aggro player flanking with wasps into a potential double wraith drop is extremely dubious imo; the efficient (but boring) play is to take arclights to solve chaff for the ball push and defend the weak tower. In general very few of these unit drops were helpful for aggro, so the later drops were probably worth selling for a more appropriate carry (wraith/boat or both to support the balls, probably). The point about early techs is well made, though to be completely honest the reason I find techs aren't clickable early is that missing a unit deployment in rounds 1-3 is going to lead to a severe chaff deficit, and there's no money for techs if you are placing two units per round. I also agree that it's important to flank aggro players, especially early. fully committing your army to the line leaves you completely open, and flanking the midline on the side that's pushing usually distracts a pack or so of balls long enough to break down the brunt of the attack. aggro sinks or swims via early tempo, and it's quite possible to deny it entirely if you get a tower kill or split the push. In my experience the rookie mistake with aggro defense is trying to address the committed attack instead of striking at the numerous vulnerabilities the push leaves.
also the lack of stang levels hurt my soul
I misspoke, wraith with degen beam was a misplay given photon was a card option and the need for chaff and more mustangs was more important.
Hey thanks for looking at my game. Apologies if I wasn't very clear in my initial post. Basically what happened is that I ran into this sort of Hacker spam before and I tried a bunch of things back then including going air, Stormcallers as well as chaff spam and nothing worked. I then decided to try the Hacker spam out in this game here because I was goofing around a little bit anyway. I unfortunately didn't save the replay of the first game so I thought maybe this one could serve as an example case. Sorry if that was a little confusing! Hope it makes sense now. Cheers
Thank you for covering a game of mine again! A thing which you've pointed out and I know to be true is that my positioning is way off, better placement even in losing rounds could have saved me a couple hundred HP each round, not to mention that I didn't deal with the Mustangs on the side until the end of the game. Over the games I've gotten better at chaff as I'm beginning to understand the strengths and weaknesses of my units, but there is still much to learn; such as me not taking the temp range upgrade as well as acknowledging that skipping a card might be slightly better over debuffing my unit :D. With your help I've managed to climb and am sitting at 1150 MMR! Absolute Legend!
Upon seeing this again, you also didn't really take advantage of giant spec, but opponent was doing a good job of pre-empting giants by picking scorps and melters. Could have gone giants despite those if you had 2nd or even 3rd wave chaff earlier on in the game. Typically 2nd wave chaff are the backline crawlers while 3rd wave chaff is usually late fangs, often being split behind towers. Next time you watch a stream of mine you'll see a T shape usually with horizontal crawlers and vertical fangs for this reason.
Hi! I'm the Hotklou (red player) in this video. Here are some thoughts I had afterwards about the match, as well as explanations for some of my choices (that I first posted on the official Mechabellum Discord server): Backline crawlers would've definitely helped a lot, especially seeing as his vulcans would probably have been dead by that time and I did have a bit of an issue with a lack of ground chaff afterwards. Thinking about it, another great use for crawlers back there would be to provide some defense against surprise attacks along your back flanks. Then he can't simply drop some crawlers and let them rush your towers to grab an early tower kill, as your crawlers would be there already to kill all or most of his crawlers - if he wanted a flank to punch through and break a tower he'd need to invest even more into the flank attack (such as lvl 2 crawlers or an arclight/rhino along with the crawlers), which might be detrimental to him if I cheaply countered that as well or decided to use his flanking units as an exp farm for another backline unit of my own. What might actually have helped quite a bit with his vulcans might've been some cheeky crawlers next to/near them to just distract them for a bit and give my army more time to get it rolling? The reason I went for a phoenix was a risky coinflip, and I lucked out. I was relying on them to delay a bit, if not by outright winning the round then at the least by killing some of his wasps so I take less damage if his wasps did win. I was waiting to see if he did something different that would perhaps invalidate me getting anti-air wasps (which I had been thinking of since it would be awesome with my wasp swarm and would help counter him). But I see how the roles of the scorpion, steel balls and phoenix does overlap quite a bit. Regarding the placement of the scorpions, I agree it would've been better to instead place them farther away from the tanks. Maybe it would've been better if they were closer to where the lvl 2 crawlers are so they're not clumped up so close to any other units. They would've performed basically the same, but they would indeed have been better protected against javelins and the like. It might also have been useful to rush 2 squads of steel balls down the middle, actually. Even before my opponent's war factory came up, 2 steel ball squads would've punched right through his tanks in the middle quite effectively, and the marksmen might've been too slow to blast through them without my opponent investing into techs or more chaff support for them. If nothing else, it would definitely have bought my side armes precious seconds to get in on the vulcans.
Excellent video! Rewatching my own game shows me a lot of mistakes I made, as you've said I should have gone chaff I even picked Fangs yet I totally ignored the unit afterwards. As the rounds progressed my logic was that if I had not built them by now that it was a losing spot to drop 2 (or 3) low cost units but in retrospective I should have still gone for it as a slow round would have saved me a lot of HP throughout the game. Showing what I could have done in the last round is very insightful as well, I defiantly don't utilize the research center enough, I've learned a lot from your feedback, can't wait to apply it in game! Ps. the hacker was a missclick, I had just tabbed back into the game and pressed the screen in the same frame in which the cards spawned :')
A "progress" report, just hit 1050 mmr! Ended up encountering a lot of Ball players and with the new found knowledge from the video alongside my own playstyle now they just roll over :D
I miscalculated. It's actually over 2000 health swing given JPapa had 1100 hp in round 6, not 1 like in the replay takeover mode.
Red didn't really have any chaff clear. Those wasps were cleaning up crawlers lategame. Also unconventional, but I think frontline scorpions would have had a field day tanking Blue's army for the majority of the rounds. Of course could have been easily countered, but it'd win a round!
Having a second look and you're right. It's nice to pick up on more things on the second watch. Maybe going forward I'll watch twice, once off camera, and be able to pick up on more things to provide detailed feedback to these players looking to learn. Cobrak and the other YTers make it look easy lol.
