I remember the original version coming out
Wonderful review. I'm very much a new fan of Dark City Games. At first, I thought it was just a clone of The Fantasy Trip, but it is definitely it's own (similar, but different) game. And, I have come to like the differences. I am looking forward to getting Grim is the Night based upon your review. Thank you for doing this review.
@@hrothgarrannulfr1972 I'm glad you liked it. Have fun with the adventures.
This game was displayed in the window at The Tin Goose at Ghirardelli Square. I miss that store. Never bought the game, but I always wondered about it.
If you have the time, can you find it for cheap it's worth the buy
WHAAAAAAAT, OH GOD WHERE CAN I GET IT
@@Institute_Affairs www.kickstarter.com/projects/scorpionmasque/dead-cells-the-rogue-lite-board-game
Although the kickstarter is done, I would bet dollars to donuts Adobe a pre-order page somewhere
New Coke resulted in the return of original Coke to the shelves, but this was additional to New Coke, so now Coca-Cola had two beverages occupying shelf space in the stores. At the press conference where they announced the return of original-recipe (well, corn syrup and not sugar) Coke, a reporter asked if they had planned this all along. The Coke rep had the best answer, I still remember to this day: "We aren't that dumb; and we aren't that smart."
Talon looks really cool! My favorite starship combat game is still Full Thrust from Ground Zero Games. Simple, elegant, modifiable, and the rules are free!
Full Thrust is great! The best hexless space combat game out there.
Interesting....I'll add it to the list!
If you want quick and simple try STARFIRE.
Kingdom Death is HUGE on Kickstarter. It made 2 million in 2016, then 12 million with the 1.5 version. The base game is $400. Mostly for people who love painting miniatures and playing an immersive solo campaign presented in a beautifully illustrated choose-your-own story book. The player controls the destiny of a primitive tribe and must make choices that will impact their survival and evolution later in the game.
Yeah, that is one heck of an investment to get started.
@@CastleArchon Indeed! A friend of mine buys everything KD. He paints very well. We played a few multi-player games. It's fun but not enough for me to buy in.
@@marccaron6008 I think it's got to be a miniatures thing overall.
Had a wonderful time at my first GenCon. Loved visiting with you, Grant, Brent, Kerry, and everyone at the Columbia Games booth. Bucket list item marked off! Thanks for all you and the rest of the Columbia Games folks do to promote the best, most realistic fantasy world and game ever and keep the quality so high.
And thank YOU for continuing to support us so we can continue doing exactly that!
Yes, I have the original Chivalry and Sorcery and have used the FGU products with Harn way back in the day. These are all very well aligned offerings to tie into together. Awesome job, Steve - way to think beyond the box - and open things up.
Did you have Space Opera from FGU? How about Bushido?
@@CastleArchon Yes I have them. And Space Opera is/was one of my absolute favorites. 😊
Yes - Pendragon would be a fantastic marketing and cross-promoting relationship. And yes, ICE and Rolemaster are fantastic (been with it since inception), plus my son has written for them. Another great partner/promotion to work on.
I can;t wait to get started! I just have some post-Gen Con promotions to get moving first.
Trevor from Me, Myself and Die is a great guy. And his new RPG is going to be very cool.
He is a cool dude and worthy of all the success!
Jim - your sized dynamic - so no worries - you are awesome!
I don't usually mind it because I am so used to it from my perspective. Just seeing it in pictures always throws me.
Thank you, for the report Jim. Lifelong supporter of Columbia Games from the first time days they opened up for business. I have had a long-term relationship with Tom and continued with Grant. What a great family and the whole team of folks that are involved are amazing people.
It's a wild mix of people from all around. With Grant holding the reigns, he is trying to get more talent in.
@@CastleArchon Grant is amazing.
Thanks for the review, based on this video I went out and ordered a print copy, cant wait to play it
Great! You will enjoy it for certain!
#kingdomDeath I've played it a couple of times. Very dark and a lot of fun. Sort of like the TFT programed adventures - reading events form the text.
I really Like Pendragon. I always run a game or two.
It was great seeing you again this year.
Right back at'cha Bryon!
I have played HarnWorld with AD&D, Rolemaster, D&D 3.5, and HarnMaster. I love that you are promoting other systems for HarnWorld, Pendragon is a lot of fun, Ars Magica might be a fit for a wizard-centric game, CoC Dark Ages and all the other systems you listed and more.
@@mrgunn2726 yeah, it's going to be a lot of fun to do.
I think it was like a 2 or 3 million Kickstarter for Kingdom death monster
@@GaddisGaming wow that's really impressive. I guess the reason why they don't want to go into retail stores is because they'd rather get more money by people ordering it direct
What conversation is this?

Erie? That's my neck of the woods!
Completely and totally love Columbia Games and all the Harn. ❤
I live too far from you guys but I got a friend competing in the Trial of Bloodright at the con. Good luck, buddy!
@@banzaiperson sounds cool what kind of game is that? I'll look it up tomorrow
@@CastleArchon It's basically a 1v1 tournament for people who like to play with Clanner mechs. The Batchall is about as Clanner as you're thinking with a description like that. Winners earn bloodnames, and my buddy was aiming for Kerensky. He didn't make it but he had good fun.
@@banzaiperson do you know how many Mechs the 1v1 had a side? Was it a full star of five?
@@CastleArchon From the pictures my friend sent, it looked like single combat.
A classic!
@@ardwulfslair in every sense.
Pancake monster. Sounds very interesting. Got to love the box art
@@tetsuo311ontwitch5 I made a follow up video that talks about the game
Well played Tom.
I love it when my buddy brings his huge Circus Imperium (like Circus Maximus but weird fantasy) with painted miniatures like lions and wolves as beasts. He runs the game in a booming announcer voice, and half the fun is just listening to him ready the cards and say FRENZY!
I love Circus Imperium, it's part of the Renegade Legion game line, which is an old favorite of mine.
Amazing gencon 2024 looks like it's going to be a blast. Wish I could have went with you.
Next year maybe

As I lay on my hotel bed at 2AM hearing a family fight down the hall, as I wait for the Federal offices to open in DC, I can safely say that I used to see this game at the Tin Goose in Ghiradeli Square ... next to the old pre-FASA Star Trek RPG with the purple planet on the box cover. I never did either, but saw both games in the back corner of the store. I wish I had bought copies of both.
I am honored you chose my video to watch while you couldn't sleep! :)
Wow, had this game YEARS ago. Never got to play it.
Was worth trying once.
@@CastleArchon I remember reading the rules. I bought the game as I was looking for another space combat game besides Star Fleet Battles, but it just didn't do it for me.
Seriously! I just found your channel the other day and am watching your vids completely out of order 😜 If your catching these replies of mine just know that, while visiting my cousins (a looooong time ago in the dark ages of the mid 80s) I bought Ogre and GEV from a game shop at the same time as Car Wars Off-Road 😄
I am glad you have! Comment away! :)
ROBOT JOX! 🤘😎 The crowd crush wasn't Achilles' fault. He was trying to save the crowd from Alexander's rocket fist, which was AN ILLEGAL PROJECTILE WEAPON AFTER THE FIGHTERS HAD CLOSED TO HAND-TO-RANGE!!! ..... but it's ok.... I'm not bitter. 🤣😜 You can make races more interesting by having no weapons, or deliberate contact, until the start of Lap 2. You get a lot more people jockeying for position on the first lap this way. I added the 'deliberate contact' so that drivers with ram plates can't say "Hey, I didn't shoot him 🤷♂" p.s. Adjudicate 😉
That is another good idea. I would allow for ramming on the first lap normally, but this experience changed my mind.
I started Car Wars in '85 when I bought the original black plastic 'retail rack hanger box'. Didn't take me and my friends long to get fully hooked. I ended up with all of the expansions and modules, like Aeroduel and Boat Wars, and a lot of the Autoduel Quarterly books. I even had the full map of Midville. 🥰 I had the original arena set and always wanted to make a fully 3d model of the multi-layer one with the ramps and the full lap running around the top tier. Watching this video and I'm like "Yup, that's the Chopper Challenge and Off-Road Duelling that I had". If I'm remembering correctly, Off-Road Duelling included 'Muskogee Mayhem' an off-road race track/arena? Anyone else remember the Hive Queen Big Rig with all her drones?
Did you find the rules for helicopters, boats, and other vehicles were too much did they work well? I have not tried it yet.
@@CastleArchon This was over many years, so it wasn't too hard adding them in to our regular play as and when I got them. Bikes, trikes, big rigs, off-road, etc were all a breeze to add in. We rarely used the planes but the boats and choppers were a lot of fun. I even had some of the metal miniatures 😎👍
@@richardrussell7082 I look forward to trying it out!
Watching this vid again makes want to whip out old SF 3 Campaign module and get some players together.
I encourage you to do so! :)
thank you
My favorite thing to do with the harndex is to pick a random location and read up on it and every nearby location. Love Harnworld maps.
thank you so much very helpful just got the game
Enjoy! It is a great game! Make sure to look at the treasure chest deal if you ever decide to go "all in".
With seven players I don't see how you can hide the Blocks to all other gamers, though. And I wonder if the bock density will be manageable as some areas will have tons of blocks, unless you use the extra-size gorgeous but expensive neoprene map (Victory in Eurpoe had that problem). But I guess that in Vassal/Remote play with an umpire this game should be terrific to play, if I base this guess on my multi-player experience with other similar games on the internet, were the Diplomacy is important. Anyway, I'll purchase it for sure, I own all of Columbia games, starting with the very first 1970's "Gamma Two" editions of your products. Can't wait to take a peek at the rules!
Looks awesome. Beautiful components. I hope the rules flesh out well for you.
Are these books available today?
I have not seen the originals around, but I know there is a newer version (which doesn't look the same really. I forget the name of it though.
Just got a copy of this game. I had it as a kid in the 70s but it was too complicated. It’s nice to see an explained overview and read other’s strategies. I’m only on turn two and my non-existent strategy and tactics have already made it painful for both sides. 😂 I’m having fun though and already further than I ever got as a 12-yr-old. I like these rule systems because they are easy to reference for questions. Always fun to read comments from the people annoyed that the movie exists and has something different to say than the book.
Yeah, this was too cool of a game idea for young kids, way to young for wargaming, to get their hands on. I wonder how many more racked their brain trying to figure it out...and I had Panzer Leader too! :)
GRPS and Munchkin made me a Steve Jackson fan for life.
GURPS is really THE reference to have if you want to make a rule for any RPG. If there is a situation or skill, GURPS will light the way.
no game master in this area do people gamemaster on the internet?
Which area is that? Yes, people do play Harnworld on the internet. Try roll20.net

Looks great. Really keen on this. Will this posh mounted map version be at retail in the UK? You said the 7 player went well. Is the 2 player looking good as well?
Can the RPG game be played more theatre of the mind style of play? I have blind players?
I have been told that it can, but it is not the default. Something like that I would recommend the FATE system highly.
You said "this summer" ... Can you hint at which month seems most likely?
