I think it’s something like 120 ibs.
Horse Racing needs independent contractors to run the photo finish.. In this day in age there are other ways to show the final placings in a race than to take a picture so why are we still using photography?
Why is it the viewer watching on TV do not get the best angle ?
California cannot help but regulate out of existence every aspect of traditional life.
The barns are too small. I hope the horses get a varied diet as if they were wild horses.
Overbreeding is what has ruined racing. That, and owners who cannot wait 3 years to run their horses. Sound, healthy, 10 year old runners used to exist. They should be the norm, not the exception.
Horses are the only animal that will run into the battle, instead of running away from it .
Handicap the jocks
Horse is yawning trying to wake up...maybe sum coffee for him?
Thank you so very much for sharing this with us all. Awesome!!!
Not sure why they don’t try and change up the training methods. Why stick to these old ideas? Why not try some new ideas?
Because the old way, is the right way. That pony boy is strapped to a hay burning rocket on race day
It’s a shame most end up for slaughter. This is an old barbaric sport that needs to end. As humans I had hoped we evolved past this but no! There’s money to be made so no! Don’t let these people fool you, when there done racing off they go for meat. I see it every week at my local horse auction. Don’t support horse racing. These horse have life long emotional and physical damage.
Bal A Bali is currently standing at stud at Calumet farm in Lexington
Good because the horse looked tired
And then they die........... RIP Medina
Yeah rip
All animals die dip stick!
It's what happens to them when they are finished on the track that concerns me. I am sure they are cared for when they are useful.
Probably dog food like in Europe
most retire and are rehomed or bred with other mares. they spend their retirement grazing around
Why is the horse tied to the wall??
@@martinemikita9281 I understand. There are always a few anti-racing comments and it makes one a bit touchy. The tie up is a bungle cord with a snap on each end (like a dog lead). There is a screw eye in the wall to attach it to. It's much safer than tying a rope around a post or something. Forty-five is still young.🙂
How different it is in the USA compared to here in the UK. I dont like the stables the horses are in either, yep so different indeed.🐎
they look kinda sad
Yup they are because even if they aren't slaughtered they are exhausted from all of the emotional stress that being trained and raced from such a young age causes them.
What do you know about horses? It's not like they can smile when their happy. The horse looks very content. He was even yawning
@@mobility63 look at there eyes there tired and say all there life right there in there eyes
morning training and galloping is the key to winning there well taken care of
And people say race horses get abused? I’ve never seen a horse being so well treated 🤩❤️
Exactly!!
@@sarcasticdrag0n603 It all depends. I love horse racing, and at it's bare bones, the concept is fun and exciting. But in order for it to go all the way, and truly be a better sport, people need to quit drugging, cut over breeding, ban whips and start Thoroughbreds at an older age. No hate to everyone in the industry, of course. There are some genuinely good teams.
What happens if they are not fast enough?????
@@lorraineclark5028 they sell them to other people thats how most people end up with Ex racers.
@@lorraineclark5028 Some people send them to Thoroughbred rehoming programs (which racetracks like Churchill Downs support with donations). Others place them in claiming races, and they're bought by new trainers. Sometimes the horses do better with a different running style, jockey, tack set, etc. A lot of times, when Thoroughbred's are sold to slaughterhouses, the owners and team involved never find out. It's swept under the rug. They don't have anything to do with it (normally). It happens illegally quite often. Others buy horses straight off the track, take them to their stable, and retrain them. It wouldn't happen as frequently if they'd just stop forcing stallions to over breed. But, that's greedy people, they want to find the best of the bunch, use 'em for a few short years, and sell 'em to stud.
Omg look at the abuse! Healthy shiny TBs loving their jobs. So terrible 🤣
@@marymartin8763 Exactly. Horse racing at its bare bones is a fun concept. Horse and rider rushing to the finish. But the Thoroughbreds involved in the sport have too much strain on their legs, because they are so young. They need to be raced at four or five, not two and three. And drugging, with some owners and trainers, seems to be a big factor. Alongside over-breeding and whips. Although they typically tap their shoulders, it can become aggressive, especially if you are keen on winning. They need to be banned. If people would focus on these things, and improve them, it could be fun for everyone...
When I was 11yrs old my mother took me to riding lessons equestrian and fell in love with horses. Im retired dental laboratory technician crown and bridge laboratory. I also am a retired professional exercise rider. Owners and trainers used me to do full work outs. I was the perfect size . 5 "1' weighed around 123 . I started off at Suffolk Downs racetrack which is beautiful racetrack. Now the casino was built in Everett ma. Suffolk Downs has simlucasting. I went to other racetracks in the winter of 1985 Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Florida.
It’s a shame these poor animals end up at the slaughterhouse.
maximum jokey weight requirement
Where do jockeys get their crops from?
PLEASE TELL ME HOW IT IS FAIR at all TO THE PUNTERS WHEN YOU DONT make a DQ BUT YOU set down the jockey for the infraction that was caused?????????????
Nurse? Yes, but I always thought of myself more as a "Horse Nanny."
The horse needs to gain a bit of weight to race he would be co side red a bit under weight I can see his ribs
Great Video, wish it was longer
Well, there are always going to be @$$hole owners & trainers who will try to drug a horse and get away with it, but the majority of horses, I believe, do run within legal limits. The druggers are scum who should be barred from owning and running horses. Racing is a noble sport when it's run cleanly. I'm grateful to anyone, governmental body or otherwise, who tries to ensure this.
Horse racing is animal abuse and gambling. Nothing good comes from this industry. I am ashamed of California for exploiting animals this way.
There is no question it is gambling- I would suggest you take up your concerns about abuse with the stewards or the board directly. They are generally very open to discussing these matters. They are incredibly transparent about the entire scene- and unlike any other sport they are required to report almost every aspect to the public. If you feel strongly about matters of the sport- they generally take peoples concerns well- provided they are presented in a respectful and organized manor. They probably are not going to abolish the sport... but understand the regulation is aware of the welfare of the horses and takes concerns seriously.
Not buying it. California makes money from horse racing. You have a vested interest to lie. We know drugs are rampant in the stables of Del Mar and all the other California tracks.
I got a great idea for safety.... how about preventing construction of barns at golden gate fields during hours of training? that would be great.....
