Arban Characteristic Study #1
I recorded this a couple years ago, and somehow lost track of the audio. Here it is finally with my edited (and often re-edited) version of the score.
Obviously, I prefer a less metronomic approach to these studies (well, most everything, frankly) than some other musicians. I do practice with a metronome, obsessively with some passages and exercises, but to perform metronomically makes almost no sense to me a lot of the time. In this particular case, I would cite that cornet players historically were known for their use of rubato, probably to emulate violin and piano virtuosos.
To continue the trend I suppose, Yo-Yo Ma's recordings of the Bach Cello Suites are definitely a source of inspi...

About this Etude: This etude is really damn awkward due to the syncopation in the main rhythmic figure. I've attempted to stay on pulse and c...
Théo Charlier, Transcendental Étude No. 4, Du Style (Andante con moto)

Performed by: Kurt Gorman, trumpet Professor of Music University of Tennessee at Martin Notes: I have chosen to play a fully diminished 7th arpeggio, rather than a half-diminished 7th, in measure 15 as vii˚7/V. I have always suspected that this was an error in the score - the written version is perfectly functional, but harmonically weaker. Instrument: Monette Prana LT C Trumpet and C2S3 mouthp...

I remember working in this one with you a few years back. Incredible to think how far I’ve come since then!
Wonderfull ! It reminds me the period I studied this study n°1, more than 40 years ago now 😭 Congretulation 🎺
Thanks so much! I play and teach from Arban (almost daily), and I do share in the nostalgia.
Very nice. Appreciate the articulation throughout
Thanks very much!
Thanks so much for listening!
How, bravo Kurt.
Bravo Kurt…
Just saw this. Sounds great! Hope you're well!
