Lexus makes History with the 2025 LX
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.3 месяца назад
The first enhancements to the 300 Series Lexus LX have been announced for the 2025 Model Year, and Lexus gave us quite a bit to talk about. A first for the LX and Land Cruiser is the introduction of a hybrid, the LX700h. And what an interesting hybrid this is. The biggest news is the announcement that Lexus has continued the Overtrail grade from the GX, and is now offering this on the LX as wel...
Modern Cars are Bland: The Ferrari 308 Isn’t
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.4 месяца назад
The Ferrari 308 is one of the best sportscars you can buy for less than $75,000. Although, I would rather have an original Acura NSX, or maybe a gated manual first gen R8, or an Aston Martin Cygnet, the 308 is still a pretty solid car. For how iconic of a car it is, the fact that you can buy a very nice one for under $100,000 is pretty amazing. Especially when you think of a Countach being $700...

Saving Rare Cloth Land Cruiser Seats
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.11 месяцев назад
Hello once again! This is our next installment of our series on fixing up a US Spec 100 series Land Cruiser that was about 1/50 that left the factory with a cloth interior. Every time I say that, it seems less and less impressive, but I am a loser so it still makes me happy. In the last video I said, "Tune in next week" ... ha ... what a naive fool I was, and am. I hope to see you all again soo...
Fixing up the USA Cloth Land Cruiser: Part 1

The ultra-rare USA Cloth 100 Series Land Cruiser now begins its journey of having a midlife refresh. From Exterior and Interior cosmetics, to fixing some sketchy repairs, this video is the first step in our journey. Over the past 6 months I have worked fixing up this offensively handsome cloth interiored Land Cruiser. You would both be surprised and unimpressed with how much work has gone into ...
The Land Cruiser You Never Knew Existed: The USA Cloth 100

To the rest of the world, this Land Cruiser is just a regular 100 series, but here in the USA, the special order cloth interior was so rare that there is almost no documentation to be found anywhere. Thank you to the people on ih8mud for your knowledge on the 100 series and to the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum for such great information on cars we all love. It is a very cool truck although I don't feel the interior is much of a luxury truck anymore. It is an upgrade to the prior GX in many ways but it lacks the "Lexus" feel of beautiful wood, machined dials, etc

    I have about 10k miles on my OT+. Overall I like the vehicle very much. But I do have some criticisms for the price point. The leather seats are not the same quality as my prior Lexus sedan. This leather is thin and stretches after sitting on it. There should be rear ceiling vents. The video based rear view mirror is missing but it’s in the LC 250 first edition. The second row should have a standard 120 v plug in addition to the USB C ports. Would have liked some auxiliary switches as found in the LC 250. There’s not enough storage space with the cool box option. On the plus side the power train and suspension are excellent. The looks are enviable and garner a lot of compliments from strangers. Passengers enjoy long trips in it.

    As an owner Everything he states in the video is spot on. My biggest complaint is the gas mileage at 14.3 mph, even on Econ mode and driving city speed limits. The 2nd complaint is the door cup holder is square so only a small 6 oz can will for.

    Nice, you're a good presenter! I agree with you that the engine alone is worth the upgrade from the Land Cruiser. The other big one is EKDSS. I've driven both and find the GX 550 much more compelling and put in my order for one last week, the 550 Overtrail.

    • @thomasretzios
      @thomasretzios 9 дней назад

      Great pick! I agree that driving both is where you really feel and see the advantages of the GX. The added sound deadening and more powerful engine really make it feel like a more solid car. I hope you enjoy the Overtrail!

    The Overtrail and the 550 as a whole… frustrated me as a buyer. I’ve owned numerous LC’s and GX’s, and still daily my 2020 GX460 (black over rioja red premium). As someone with no kids, and definitely none in the near future, I find the 550 a smidge too large unlike the G wagon and Defender. In addition, on the 460 the KDSS was on all trims, and on the 550, the highest end Luxury trim doesn’t have it. On a day to day basis, the KDSS makes taking curves a lot nicer, and when comparing an Overtrail to a normal GX550 you can tell the difference. So even though I wanted the new 550 because of its sexier exterior and a more updated interior, I found it not up to “par” on its overall design. I also have a feeling the plastic front grille is going to fade into grey as it’s unpainted. In addition I found the NVMH higher in the 550 than in my current 460 with KO3’s equipped. The biggest “flop” has to be the floor mounted rear AC vents on the Overtrail, and the rear wiper now being exposed to the elements now gathers mud and snow while driving, hindering its effectiveness. For these reasons I sold my ‘24 Overtrail+ in Earth to my best friend and he enjoys it, but also finds that rear wiper to be an annoyance in a snowy/muddy climate.

      That is very interesting to hear, I feel like I’ve heard similar stories about 200 series ownership vs 100 series LCs. While on paper the 200 series is better in almost every category, there are a lot of people who have owned both and much prefer the 100 series. The rear wiper being relocated was definitely a mistake, and having a more solid rear spoiler with an integrated wiper would have been a smart decision. Also while I really like the looks of this new GX550, I think the 460 is a more subtle car, and stays under the radar. Only those who know, know.

    @thomas what are your opinions on buying a Tesla?

    • @thomasretzios
      @thomasretzios 9 дней назад

      Teslas are a cool second or third car to have. Charging times and other factors make them not the best candidate for being the only car you own, but as long as someone had a regular gas car to go along with it, I think that is not a bad choice! You should buy a Plaid.

    The reality hits hard. For many years, I considered a Countach a car that, if everything went well for a while, I could potentially own. That bird flew away several years ago. Thankfully, I do have a 308, NSX, and C4 ZR-1 to keep me smiling!

    DO NOT skimp on cheap gas. My 2012 GX now needs a new catalytic converter due to 4 years of filling up with 87. Costing me $2800. Also, that barn door handle is a pain and will stick. Cost me $300 to fix.
