PUFF PIECE This is a 'Puff-Piece' for a development that says nothing about utilising the coal that is still underground. Yorkshire Power Stations were built close to and on top of the Coalfields for efficiency and economies of scale in transporting the coal from pit to power station. Whilst the coal sits underground, wood pellets are shipped across the Atlantic to Liverpool and then carted by train to Drax to burn.....all at vast subsidy of course. Of course, the madness of such policies is that all our electricity bill continue to go up and up....all so that Power Company Suppliers and Government can crow about so-called Green Energy. Electricity Bills are as high as they are because of the subsidies paid to the Electricity and Wind Farm companies... Madness beyond belief. Obviously this comes as no surprise, since this young MP for Selby has no real understanding of industry or of working in industry, and is likely signed up to the Climate Change / Zero Carbon nonsense. The Mayor of North Yorkshire, (whatever that is beyond an extra tier of unnecessary government), is extremely vague in what he proposes, and basically says nothing apart from moving away from a dependence on tourism. The computer generated impression of the site shows minimal railway connection......nor does it specify what this will be for in industrial terms. Calling this the Gascoigne Interchange site tells us nothing about what it will be doing. Wakefield has....or is supposed to have a major rail connected facility, but its closeness to the Motorway system essentially means it is a Motorway Hub. This site is likely to follow the same pattern. Coal should be being mined and transported to 'Clean Burn' and Efficient Power Stations, but the Climate Change Lunatics fail to see the logic of this. Truly, the Lunatics are running the asylum..! James Hennighan Yorkshire, England P.S. Don't NCB Holdings (Residual Body) still own the site......? If not, when was it sold to any new owners....? How many new owners were involved...? If this is the case what price was paid for it...?
Proud to be supporting Harworth on realising this project, transforming a former coal mine to a centre for low-carbon logistics
In spite of the rail facilities, the road access is already appalling with scant consideration of Sherburn inhabitants. A proper ring road is needed, and investment in the area, not just build more, unneeded buildings when recently built warehouses are uninhabited.
remember cheap energy ,Gascoigne wood when coal was king and thatcher despised the stuff , now derelict with uk having no energy policy ,welcome to uk 2024 with families frightened too turn the heating up what a mess !
Coal is very rarely used to generate electricity here - not even cheap imported stuff (which were were using for many years). We now use gas, wind, solar etc. It is called de-carbonisation - and that is nothing to do with Thatcher.
@@kalicom2937 correct and so expensive ! and the uk rules the decarb race ,uk residents fear energy bills ,no industry due to sky high bills ,wood pellets being transported 1000 miles costing a fortune too drax ,a mess !
@@thomas-o8d3o More expensive than the planet turning in to Venus? Okay, if you say so, I guess....

Is this country park open to the public now?
My question is do Hartworth own the site because my understanding is that its still owned by NCB Holdings
You should also remember that this is a commercial company and are doing this for profit. The were the movers and shakers behind a housing development in Warsop. Hundreds of houses in a small village. I brought up with a representative of the group at what was billed as a consultative public meeting, several issues. Doctors, dentists, schools, traffic etc. The answer from them was not their problem. That's for councils, government and other agencies. Over half way through the build process now and we are left to suffer the consequences. They are also the group behind the Sports Direct move to Coventry. Again a major development objected to by locals. This project is like the rest. Profit
Fair enough but what on earth would attract any business to develop any site if there’s not a profit to be made. Don’t begrudge people / companies making a few quid. That’s what makes the world go around.
"Doctors, dentists, schools, traffic etc. The answer from them was not their problem. That's for councils, government and other agencies.". Yep, the government agencies are at fault for allowing the project to go ahead without insisting the developer includes these types of facilities as part of the project. No facilities then no permission. Ah, but what about the down side risk to the council? (as it stands the developer can just go somewhere else that does not insist on the facilities being developed properly). If the national government were to make this requirement a law then it would be a level playing field across the country, so no council could get an advantage over another. Either way, this is a rules and regulations issue, not one of companies making profit.
@@benpattinson1 The world in general would be a lot better if making a few quid is not where you set the bar.
All business that comes to Gascoigne woods needs to be rail related, or it just becomes yet another business park, usually left with empty units and dodgy second hand car dealers. This is a great opportunity for rail. Rail was once the future , it can be again. Let's have some more local lines reopened accross the country too .
I sincerely hope it's a huge boost to the area but we have a new Government likely more useless than the previous Tory one. Unable to do anything to grow our economy outside the South East? Good luck.
A kid MP there still waiting for his balls to drop.
'It's not a mine, it's not a deep mine' As I remember, the dip on the coal seams is such that the further east you go, the deeper the coal gets. Gascoigne Wood was a drift to access the Selby coalfield, an investment that was not capitalised at all and abandoned too soon all part of the short sighted approach to development of the past. I assume the mine access is now capped, but shallow it was not.
No mention of the adjacent airfield facilities that could cater for visits to Gascoigne Wood and also Sherburn One & Two. Recognise and embrace what already exists and include them in your plans.
Powered by Millipede Enterprise its sure to succeed (as long as the wind is blowing). Why does Labour hate carbon lifeforms?? We all know (apart from the Marxists) that carbon dioxide is the gas of life, as plants need it to grow and we need the oxygen they produce. All the guff about global warming is supposedly proved by fantasy computer models using cherry picked data. RIP UK
Excellent that this site is to be used for electric-based rail freight. No mention of a passenger rail station to serve the site - surely that would be a good idea for the employees?
No thanks - landscape it and back to nature please. The approach roads are atrocious.
No thanks
