Vlog 6 - Chuseok at Koroot // Adoptee Melting Pot
Games, good people, and plenty of feasting to celebrate the harvest. To kick off the 2018 Chuseok holiday, I revisit my first Chuseok on Korean soil with the hosts and guests of Koroot, circa 2017. One of the most meaningful experiences of my trip, for reasons I didn't expect. For those considering making the journey back and wondering what might be a good time to go, there are pros and cons to...
Vlog 5 - Jinju Lantern Festival // Sacrifice & Gratitude
Brief visit to the city of Jinju, where 70,000 Korean militia sacrificed their lives defending against the first Japanese invasions in the late 1500’s. Each year the locals hold a special ceremony known as the Namgang Yudeung lantern festival, where floating lanterns are lit on the water to show their lasting gratitude. I have had many thoughts on the subject of gratitude and what it means to m...
Vlog 4 - Daegu Detour // Sung's City

The trip continues with a step outside of Seoul. As I trek south to experience more of the country, I begin with a quick visit to the fourth largest city - Daegu, birthplace of my adopted brother Sung. Also - FUN WITH FOOD!! A first peek at the fine dining. Theme track - 2013 Tvn
Vlog 3 - Visiting HOLT // Back Where It All Started
The steps I took to further my search when I arrived in Korea: Settle myself into Koroot, connect myself with the adoptee organization called GOA'L, and meet up with my social worker face to face at HOLT. Continuing with the search while trying to balance my time as a tourist took a lot of energy out of me, but the experience was rewarding. One thing I've found throughout this process is persis...
Vlog 2 - The DMZ // Two Faces, Same Coin
Naturally, I couldn't resist touring the DMZ and JSA at Panmunjom. Especially since I would have been subject to military service, had I grown up in Korea. But unlike what the media will tell you, the most interesting places along the tour weren't even the most heavily fortified. In fact, quite the opposite. Check out my thoughts and learn a little history of the world's most controversial bord...

A Korean American Adoptee's return to Seoul, 27 years later. Day 1: Where I'm staying, visiting the Gyeongbokgung Palace, and initial thoughts on the first day back. Song by B.o.B - Don't Let Me Fall (Instrumental)
My Adoption Story - Yoon Keechul to Kee Heywood
My adoption story and family birth search, which I began in May 2016 - The catalyst, process, results, and thoughts on my current situation. I am still trying to figure out how I feel about what happened. That said, it has become too difficult to keep such a bizarre series of events so private, and since the adoptee community is well in the hundreds of thousands, I felt it would be helpful to s...
Draw My Life - Korean Alaskan Adoptee

Born in Seoul Korea, raised in rural Alaska. This is my abridged story as a small town Korean Alaskan adoptee - From my early days until right after college. Major apologies in advance for my lighting set up - I was without proper gear, hence the occasional flashes. Still learning how to do this RUclips thing right ^_^
Do you remember the airbnb place you stayed when you visited South Korea? I was the host, and wonder if you found your Korean parent :) Hope you did.
I do remember! Jieun, right? Thank you for checking back, I hope you are well :) I had to postpone the search for a bit but am about to start it again very soon (if Covid times allow). I did just connect with someone though!! A cousin who lives in the U.S.
Good to know that you remember me! I still have the card you wrote, which made me think of you! That's a very good news! How did you find him?
@@jieunkang9650 Nice to know you still have my card! He reached out to me through one of the DNA websites I submitted a sample to. I plan to make a video on it eventually, before I visit Seoul again. Which will be soon.
Thank you for sharing. I just watched all of the videos. I love your perspective and your creativity in your drawings. Definitely a unique way to animate your journey.
Thanks for watching!

Hey, I was adopted through Holt in Daegu as well. I have a sibling that was adopted out of holt as well, but I don't know who.
Ah interesting! My younger brother was born in Daegu (we are not biologically related), but he wasn't adopted through HOLT. I haven't met many other adoptees born in Daegu so thank you for sharing
Hi! This is G.O.A.'L! Thank you so much for the kind words in your video. Do you mind if we share your video on our social media?
goalkorea Please do! Happy to help - And thanks again for all of yours :)
Kee, my brother lives in Haines. Way good video! Great story, emotional and clear. Good visuals. Keep going!
Thank you Kay! I saw Larry this Christmas briefly, it was great to visit with him this break :)
I just came from the AFA page too. This is great. Your video editing skills are amazing. I love that you're speaking up about the issues adoptees face.
Thank you Thomas. I'm finding the issues are more common than I thought, seems like we all have had somewhat similar experiences. Great to connect with you here!
Did you mention your video to Holt? Might be another sweet way for her to "feel you" without upsetting the apple cart too much. I don't know the culture, of course, but I bet your half-brother would be as excited to know about you as you are to be aware of him! Kee, the story and your telling of it are so heartwarming. Thank you, thank you.
loved this! keep up the good work :)
Amazing video!!!!
This was great, loved the story telling Kee! Also keeping my fingers crossed you are able to connect with her.
Thanks Kyle!
Kee, this is brilliant! I will never forget how you always made a mural out of the little animal and nature stamps I used to mark completed homework. I swear I saved some of them, but they haven't turned up yet. And I remember that you put drawings of your friends on your at least one of your Christmas plates. So glad you included the plays you filmed in middle school, too. This is a great way to reflect...and a perfect time, too. Big hug for you!
Amazing videos! Thanks for sharing with us!
Hahaha so good, Kee! You made me want to do one for myself but I’m not a great drawer 😂
Haha hey, I would LOVE to see yours! It'd be so interesting!
I loved your story
Kee, this is incredible! Well done! Thanks for sharing your story.

Thanks for sharing .. hope you join into the worldwide network of adult intercountry adoptees who like to think critically about intercountry adoption ... at www.intercountryadopteevoices.com ... and can't wait until Part 2!!
Thank you Lynelle! Part 2 was actually attached at the end - ruclips.net/video/cd5lad0l4_c/видео.html
