What an amazing man
I FLEW OVER 100 MISSIONS IN A B-42 - OF COURSE I AM DEAD NOW
There was never a day I did not want to FLY!!!...SemperFi
Great video! Even better man. Thanks for your service sir. Bravo!
I can’t imagine 100 missions, my father wasn’t a pilot, but a B-24 gunner with 22 missions over Germany with one very close call. But the imagery flying like a bird over hostile territory makes me think you had someone there with you the whole time allowing your skills to become totally inherent! God bless you sir!
A truly under appreciated aircraft flown by true bad ass’s . They were put in a role the aircraft wasn’t designed to perform and the aircraft and crews did that job w accuracy.
Wow. What a man.
Thank you for your service! I’m 62 and in 1966 I was 5yrs old, and as a kid I remember the war in Vietnam.God Bless!
I had a childhood friend whose father flew 100 missions in the back seat of a Thud. He was a member of “The Wild Weasels” based out of Thailand. Great guy. Thank you sir for your valiant service to our country.
The Real Deal here!
Love. You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home. - Captain Malcolm Reynolds on having a ship to fly, that you love. Thank you, Sir. My old neighbor, Bill, was a crew chief on Thuds at Udorn. RIP, Sir.
Sir, I salute you
Respect..
My father in law, Col. Rod Giffin, also flew over 100 Thud missions over Hanoi. These were some very exceptional men indeed. Rod said he loved the Thud because he felt it would always get him home.
I served aboard the USS INDEPENDENCE CVA-62 during the years you mentioned - '66, '67 and '68. I was a black shoe but carried the greatest respect for you combat fighter pilots...the greatest respect. Everything you said was gospel truth. Thank you.
My dad flew 25 missions in a P-38 Europe, 100 missions in a P-51 Korea, and 100 missions in the F-105 Vietnam.
amazing
NAME?.. WE WILL VERIFY IT..
Lt. Col. C.H. Gus Sonderman: he flew the P-38 out of Foggia, Italy; P-51 out of Seoul, South Korea; and the F-105 out of Takhli in the single seat version and then to Korat flying the two seat Wild Weasel.
I appreciate his making it a nice environment to return to.
Great Combat Pilot. Respect. Welcome Home Sir.
1:14... that's a F-16 not a F-105.
Thank you, sir.
Pura honestidad.
I went to USAF pilot training in 1968, and I didn’t know shit about the air war. One of the instructors in my class was Tom Lockhart. He had a patch on the shoulder of his flight jacket. It was a red, white and blue shield that said, “100 missions. North Vietnam. F-105D”. After my two tours in Vietnam and Thailand, I had an appreciation for what it really stood for. In my humble opinion, there was no more dangerous day to day existence.
What did you fly
“Be honest with our emotions. Our feelings aren’t right or wrong, they’re just ours.” Absolutely brilliant.
I don't know about being a hero. A killer for sure, dropping dumb bombs helter skelter and who knows where they landed and whose lives were wiped out. A very lucky son of a gun. Too bad he hasn't ever progressed or mature much since his inglorious days...a true waste of a life.
The country calls. Young people answer the call and take the oath. If you have a gripe take it up with the prickes in DC with the military industrial complex. LBJ, THE BUSHES, CHENEYS AND THE OTHER ASSHOLES WHO F.D THE COUNTRY FOR GREENBACKS. Bring back the draft and divide the risk with today's candy ass spoiled brats who let other people die.
Seems like a really great guy! Much love from the uk
100 missions, 100% convinced of what he did. GREAT ¡ CONGRATULATIONS. Greetings from Mexico City and THANKS for your service.
I pray that you are doing well Sir and will see the comments below, you and your brothers and sisters I salute. God Bless and thank you.
The original lead sled. No fooling. That's what they called it.
The thud also. Because that was the sound it made when it landed
God Bless you sir ! Thank you very much - We good citizens love y’all . Take care man (Capt.)
Thanks, Colonel Peck!
Thank you for your service sir!
1:15 That's an F-16.
I am a marine that was trained by air force in 1969 to 1973. Flew t 37 and F 5 and a 4 skyhawk. Semper fi brother.
Thanks for your service!!!
I sense a greater story in his eyes. Well Done Sir. Respect.
Watching this video has taken me back to my deployment as a 105 crew chief. I had the incredible privilege of working with the bravest men I’ve ever known. Korat, Thailand, 1965-66! The 105 was designed to deliver a nuclear war head stored in its internal bombay. Using the newest Doppler radar it could fly at 150’ above ground at 1300 mph, deliver the war head, turn and be gone totally under enemy radar. But instead we were over there sending our pilots into sorties carrying 750lb dumb bombs, or strafing ground targets with 20mm canons. There were 763 F-105’s built by Republic. 768 were lost in combat or in training missions for combat. Knowing their odds for survival I worked with these incredibly brave pilots for 2 deployments!
Being young and foolish I aspired to be a naval aviator and took the test...had to graduate college to go in. By then, I was married and had a son and not eager to go anywhere. Older and wiser now and looking back, I'm glad I never has any part in it. Today, Vietnam is still communist and Nike makes sneakers there. 3 million Vietnamese and 50,000 young Americans died for absolutely nothing. I can't see why some men still glorify that war or any war for that matter. My mother, who was a NAZI concentration camp survivor and survivor of the US 1000 plane bombing raids told me Americans love war because they have never been bombed, their people have never experienced the horrors of war. She was right.
I flew with Robert Spielman, a thud pilot, what a great guy Chuker was.
I was in the 67th TFS out of Kadena AFB 1965...to 1967...F-105's. I was the forms 5 clerk among other things...it was a good gig.. We had a bar and a grill in our ops building down on the flightline..Robinson Risner was our C/O..he got shot down..then we had Black Matt Matthews...he was a ace inKorea..he was ok..I got in trouble now and then, I was only just 17 when I went in..he never came down hard on me I was really just a kid..
Yankees i remind you that you ve LOST that war. Try to invade Vietnam and kicked out by the vietnamese despite napalm and chemical weapons. Nothing, absolutely nothing to be proud of.
SEMPER FORTIS / SEMPER FIDELIS
I love this man instantly. My late uncle flew b58 hustler and f4 in Vietnam. God bless you sir. You are a true American hero that deserves respect
Awesome...!! Not only a natural Pilot , but fought and survived in the most hostile air environment imaginable. He served his Country with honour, and his Country was trying to help people that didn't want Communism.... What more can we say...?
Hi Brian flew with Burt Campbell on the C-9A Nightingale Burt flew 105’s thought you may have known him?
Can you say BADASS. Thank you sir I flew SIC for a number of years with one of your cohorts in Citations and Lears who also flew the 105 along with the F4 and the F111 in Nam. He retired from the USAF as a Colonel. Good lord the stories he told about the missions you guys flew. Godspeed my friend.
