    You seem to have older model of the chopper, recently produced pickups have the same quick connect system just like mirage , with the same "magnet inside" approach and rectangular baseplate. Covers are glued into the bobbin, I don't know what is the deal with mirage, but on rest of the Dimarzio rail pickups I tried (Chopper, Pro track, Air Norton S, Fast track 1, Cruiser) is fairly easy to take that cover off . Just pull cover up gently and let glue slowly let go the cover. That glue is pretty soft and flexible. So under the tension it will come off from plastic. I did it many times without any issues or any additional tools. it's like 30 seconds job. Never had Mirage so YMMV

    I wonder if DiMarzio was worried about a placebo effect, by advertising the virtual vintage slugs in a high-gain pickup. Both the “vintage” name and the concept of extra slugs would give someone pause… but understanding what they do, it’s actually really cool. Now I’m curious to know if the D Activators use them, because it would help solve a major problem in replicating active pickups (perceived loudness w/o adding DCR)

    • @guitarpickupdatabase
      @guitarpickupdatabase 4 месяца назад

      That’s likely exactly the reason. Virtual Vintage IIRC was first introduced on their hum cancelling single coils, which is probably why they went with the “vintage” branding. But in actuality it basically adds a ton of output and reduces the high end, which is exactly what happens when you add more winds to a coil. I have a D Activator in my inventory. I don’t recall right now but I’m pretty sure it didn’t have Virtual Vintage. It does however use set screw pole pieces which are thicker than regular screws. It’s very similar to using double slug pole pieces like you’d see on a Lundgren M6 pickup. So not exactly VV but to an extent it’s on that same spectrum.

    It’s interesting with the introduction of the mirage. Jake has stated he’s still going to be using his titans and it seems he’s using them in his 7 and 8 string. So the mirage is for his 6 strings. Usually once a new pickup comes out they completely switch. But he still likes his titans.

    @Guiyar Pickup Database, I love these comparison breakdowns! Is there any way you can do this comparison between a Tone Zone and the Custom wound Dimarzio bridge in the EBMM axis guitar? Dimarzio swears these two are "Very similar" in tone BUT many including myself have tested both and found them to not be all that similar? You would be the first to publish the results of these two on a video in the same guitar and heights . No one has ever done a video on it.

    • @guitarpickupdatabase
      @guitarpickupdatabase 7 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I would be interested if I could get access to the pickup. Our main focus is to provide breakdowns on pickups that are currently on sale to help guitar players find the right option, but I hear requests like this a lot for very specific pickups. The guitar pickup community seems to really love rare pickups!

      @@guitarpickupdatabase Yeah unfortunately this Dimarzio is only on EBMM guitars like the AXIS and Albert Less model. It has been a debate for a long time just how close a Tone Zone is to one of them. Most seem to disagree they are that similar?

    I typically despise the sound of neck pickups in 24 fret guitars. I would love to see manufacturer design a humbucker specifically for them.

    Great video as always. I think it would be interesting to do the Chopper bridge in the neck, vs the Mirage. Most of us who use the Chopper in the neck are using the bridge version because of Andy Timmons.

  • @HugoWelti
    @HugoWelti 9 месяцев назад

    I personally would not like to see more SC pickups on the genre. Unless you go pretty non-traditional, most of them sound so scratchy and squealchy under high-gain, not to mention the noise. The ones that work best are IME P90's or Duncan QP's, neither of which are really "Strat-type". Then again, this pickup is not a single coil.

    I play with Seymour Duncan Nazgûl bridge on both my 6 and 7 string setups which are in drop C and drop F# I am open to a new neck pickup I play a wide range of music but mostly modern metal Any advice ?

    • @guitarpickupdatabase
      @guitarpickupdatabase 10 месяцев назад

      It depends on what you’re going for, but overall most neck humbuckers take a very similar approach. Typically they have a lower DCR which provides a higher resonant frequency. Even the ones you see between 10-12k are using 43 gauge wire instead of 42, which puts their resonant frequency in a similar spot. That doesn’t make them the same, but it’s a decent simplification. So what I find more important to think about is the magnet. If you want to prioritize sharper pick attack to get away from flubby notes, go with ceramic. If you want something that sounds more fluid, I’d go alnico 5 and/or something with a higher DCR. The Seymour Duncan Sentient is designed to go with the Nazgul and is basically a slightly darker 59 model due to its copper shielding. But if you want something brighter with more attack, the Alpha or Scarlet are great options for that.

    i am was looking at this single twin blade to go in the middle of my sugar chadra bridge and DActivator neck pickup. What else would you recommend? The super distortion single? Maybe. Although maybe that base is covered by the sugar. Just trying to get a wide array of detail on the strings while playing a really thrash def black metal kind of thing that has jazzy and shrilly things going on. It is like a groovey rythum metal with hook riffs and some key changes. I figure either the chopper , mirage, or bareknuckle cobras can give some pick detail in the middle, however also thought on P90's just do not know one with enough blazing blown hair back midrange zing. The single coils don't do that, however just thinking of some sounds. i am like the fact of the Neo magnet giving it some bandwidth. Really like the IGNO humbucker as well as all the dual resonance tech pickups. Well anything leading to mine landing correctly and awesome combo be much appreciated thanks for any other ideas and for this great tech video of science and chemistry..
