Skukuza Rest Camp - Kruger National Park
Просмотров 4002 месяца назад
On our recent Kruger National Park, one of the camps we stayed at was Skukuza. It's one of the main camps at Kruger, and while many may find Skukuza too busy, if you find a good camp site, it's a good base to explore some excellent game drive routes.

Letaba Rest Camp - Kruger National Park

Letaba Rest Camp is towards the center of the Kruger National Park. Unfortunately, it's in the area that is dominated by Mopani trees. Best to pick the roads closer to...

Our first time at Satara. As one of the larger Rest Camps, Satara has a reputation of being a little overcrowded and busy. We could only get an unpowered site - no problem for Rusty with his solar and lithium system, so we were OK - and only one other off-grid camper, so lots of space to spread out - will definitely recommend the unpowered sites if you can run your setup without power. I again think that the Mopani veld can be very rewarding. Letaba is perhaps the camp where I have had most of my leopard sightings at and most often without any other cars in sight. Good for lions too and even had a cheetah there last year Unfortunately your video does Letaba no justice. It is a fantastic camp. It is clear that the camp is jam packed in your video. If you go over a busy period, expect busy shops and limited sightings. It is logical. You complained a lot about the camp and surrounds but what about complimenting the view from the restaurant, the fantastic elephant museum and the mind blowing birdlife!?

    This is next-level design & fabrication. I bought an expensive portable “solar battery” from a well-financed US startup a number of years ago that was not nearly as professionally assembled. The solar industry is characterized by rapid iteration of discrete components which almost invariably are custom installed in the field, including by professional installers. At less than major commercial or grid scale, there is no source for complete systems designed by engineers and assembled in factories using modules to provide the elegance and quality you have created. Most solar systems feature components and controls haphazardly mounted on plywood with gratuitous metal struts. An analogy is the emissions control birds nests which were chaotically installed over American car engines in the 1970s. They were part of a general qualitative decline which caused US manufacturers to lose huge market share to the Japanese. One of the three - Chrysler - was bailed out of bankruptcy. By contrast, Mercedes redesigned its power plants to integrate emissions controls and eliminate the chaos - as your panels do. Aerospace is another analogy. Even in WWII-era Warbirds, electrical, hydraulic, and other lines and controls are carefully organized and secured with those which are multiples paralleled through every turn and transition from nose to wingtip to tail. Your panels are aerospace-worthy. You should start a solar company. Victron would be frantic.

    • @adventureswithrusty2012
      @adventureswithrusty2012 Год назад

      Thanks @midchalet. Your points are well made - as an ex-military pilot, I appreciate the aeronautical design approach. I tried to plan things out in advance given the available space and components that needed connections. Also taking into account the knocks & vibrations the system would be exposed to, as it was installed in an off-road caravan. I think the challenge today is that mainstream manufacturers build consumer products with a lifespan that only needs to cover the next product release. But when you have time and resources (incl. funding), it is possible to build well-designed systems that will last.

    The Deluxe Tinker with Plus Scales has been my EDC for over 20 years! It is the perfect SAK for me with no wasted tools. I get much more use out of the Phillips than the corkscrew.
