I would be very curious to know what "Native Hawaiian" actually means. Does it mean having Polynesian blood? The original inhabitants of Hawai'i came from the Marquesas Islands and Tahiti, and before that, possibly Taiwan, so 'Hawaiian' seems to me to be more of a nationality than an ethnicity. I could be totally wrong. Would love to know, though.

I think there also points you didn't mention like lots of homeless in urban areas, crime like car break ins, drugs, traffic, and noise in urban areas. You also see a trend of people move out of urban areas to suburbs and more rural areas.

This Is so different than all the other home video on Hawaii 🤙🏽
The people of Molokai are VERY territorial of their land, (for good reason.) They do not give outsiders warm welcomes. Even chase fishermen away that come there to fish. It's best for EVERYONE to leave them be. No development!
A friend of mine visited Molokai for what was supposed to be two weeks, and when she would stand in line at the grocery store (she's white), the Hawaiian cashier would completely ignore her and call up the next Hawaiian person in line behind her, and they would all just snicker at her. Happened over and over again, so she gave up and left after a week, and it's a shame because she's very respectful of Hawaiian culture, which is what I thought the residents wanted from visitors. I'd like to know why it's called 'The Friendly Isle'.
@@PerrincinaSprecaci The reason is simply because they don’t want their island to turn into another Oahu. They are protecting the land. To respect their culture is to not go. No outsiders, no problems.
@@Chelsea123Chii I don't think that's true. Every nation, every state, every city across the globe needs a certain level of tourism to survive, and to turn it off completely would make Molokai more cash poor than it already is. It should be enough to say "Visit, spend, leave". I agree with that statement. A healthy level of tourism is not a bad thing, the Cook Islands are a good model for that. And I would think that tourists who are attracted to Molokai are not likely the same disrespectful partiers who go to Waikiki to get drunk and raise hell. They are most likely the kind who will respect the land and the people and want to be educated about the Hawaiian culture. I know my friend is that type.
Be careful because if your kids are white, they will be bullied by the local kids. Everybody knows where you live.

Visited my friends Dwight and Napua 2 years ago. Love the feel of the island and the people. Reminds me of my childhood growing up in Makaha/ Waianae on the island of Oahu. My dream is to one day live there.

The life longevity statistic is misleading. Affluent older people moving into Hawaii live longer due to better insurance, living and eating habits, less stress due to nice retirement incomes, etc. This skews the results.
All good points! Hawaii is #1 in many different longevity lists and there's a lot of speculation on why that is. Whatever the reasons, I like those odds. May we all live long! 🤙
