A sunny day in January in Mui Wo, Hong Kong. Featuring Kermit the dancing dog, the resident banana seller, lots of bicycles, spooky abandoned houses, an almost deserted beach ... and more. Music is Bentleys Gonna Sort You Out! by Bentley Rhythm Ace.
I love having this to watch whenever I want. Miss Mui Wo and the people there so very much.
Great, enjoy.
Name of the presenter of this episode please?
I wish I could watch this sir , we just went there last week.😊
Sadly changing so fast.

No mention of the poverty.People being forced to live in illegal apartments that are five foot by five ft.Also old people living in tiny cages in tiny shared five ft apartments.
Poverty is everywhere, in every city. The number of people who live in illegal apartments is an extremely low % compared to the poor people in Los Angeles or in NYC. Everybody in Hong Kong had to pay their dues. My parents lived in slumps on the hill sides of Hong Kong too in the 50s when they were children. Many people who owned flats in Hong Kong had similar experience of being in extreme poverty at one point in their lives. The poverty in Hong Kong today is created by low skilled and poor immigrants who went to Hong Kong with the knowledge that this would be the condition they would be living as a start. Most of the local people in Hong Kong had pretty much gotten out of poverty. So If you are asking for sympathy, well, millions of people in Hong Kong like my parents will say, "Everybody's got to pay their dues in Hong Kong." Living in slumps and illegal housing is part of the resume of the Hong Kong people. In Hong Kong.
@@fanofmarthastewart1276 Hi,thank you so much for the detailed description of so much of Hong Kong's working poor, much appreciated (was born in Hk myself ,came to Australia in 1982 as a 3yo boy). P.s.-documentary didn't even mention cage dwellers!!!wtf.
6:15 So was he saying that Hong Kong wasn't so much affected by the economic crisis?
Yes, you are correct, we weren't affected at all.
I dont think all of them are working productively though. They just stay back in their office cause it looks like they are hardworking to their managers
Yeah, sure there are some people like that but these people will soon get axed because their managers aren't that stupid to see things aren't getting done...In Hong Kong, everybody is competing for promotion and only the brain deads will want to be lazy because laziness never paid in Hong Kong and we all need lots of money to afford the living standard in Hong Kong.
I like this BBC video. It is really representing a city in a true and a real life way. not like other videos always putting tons of false negative comments with loads of western arrogance and false judgment for no reasons.
Sorry I from Australia= not so hard working.
LOL.. the chef.. go back home and do your homework
For investment bankers, a 12 hour work day is typical regardless of where you're from.
This was probably filmed in 2010, before Samsung made a name for itself in the smartphone industry.
Same here man, i do nothing at work, I work 3 days a week 12 hours a day, earn 350 a day, sitting on my ass watching RUclips. Asia sucks.
those who complaint should feel lucky and blessed for having such a dynamic home.
and I feel so fucking lucky... I been always complaining about 1 hour extra OT that too sometimes!!!
So in 2011 these people were renting a 1000 sq ft "luxury" Mid Levels apartment for ~HK$20000 and a 500 sq ft Sheung Wan apartment for less than $HK10000?!
7:05 Pisanossss!@
Thanks for the invitation. I may just take you up on that next time we make it there.
No thanks it's a great country :P
Get out of Canada!
Many hk people who work 10-12 hrs a day, its normal case. Of course we don't like work such long time but no choice, we have to make living !! Not enough money to afford living in hk if you work less then 7,8,9 hrs a day !! anyone come from VERY RICH FAMILY that is completelty different story . All around the world is the same way .
I used to live in HK from 1985-1996. I loved it. I was an Interior designer, and used to run my own business there. Spare time, well yes I had normal hours of work so I played sport at the HKFC. 11 years of tennis, squash and 2 years of field hockey. On weekends it was time to hit the sea and relax on a boat ( not my own). Now I live in Jerusalem, Israel. No sport, no work and not much eating out in restaurants. LOVE Hong Kong, I would love to visit one day.
history teacher not paid well eh? sucker!
But what if one works so many hours of the day there is barely enough time to spend with your family? Not criticizing these hard-working people, just raising a point.
I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm a CBC (Canadian-born Chinese) of Hong Kong descent from parents who moved here in anticipation of the 1997 handover. They're not workaholics but it's pretty clear that my "job" in the family as a kid was NOT getting a part-time job, doing sports, or even doing chores - it was utilizing my time to study well, go into a good university, and get a decent career.
You live there? You lucky sot. I'm jealous. Now that I know the purpose of the video it changes the perspective. I hope you're still enjoying your time there.
This is a great show. Thank you for uploading the video. Make me miss HKG alot.
welcome to hong kong the land of hard working people
@DonMega187 Well...I wouldn't say Asians are smarter. Not only is intelligence impossible to measure or define, higher test scores are less related to intelligence and more related to work ethic. It's true that Asians have a ridiculously persistent work ethic, but I wouldn't say Asians are "smarter."
Like the music, good choice there but, sorry, too much of you and your wife and not enough of Mui Wo. Still was kinda neat to see though, my wife and I spent our honeymoon there.
the chef made me have a lot of aaawww moments!
Damn, after watching this, I feel like a lazy bastid. 12 hour work days. How do they do it?
I find it interesting how everyone has such hectic work schedules - I mean 9-11 workday, really? - but they all seem pretty happy about their jobs. It's funny because where I live people whine all the time about working too much, but we work like half the amount of these people.
