Towards the end of essentials 2, they start moving the hand to a new position. I started it two days ago and noticed many things you’ve brought up. In some cases, it recognizes the same note one octave away. You can press all keys at once and it will recognize the correct key was pressed. Holding notes down for entire duration of note is not required. You can play whole notes as quarter notes. Just talking registers as a note. In general, you start to find inconsistencies as you make mistakes, which means from that point on, you are on the honor system. I’m considering looking for a piano teacher, but the last one I had 40 years ago left a negative impression and I was stuck with nursery rhymes and mock pianos made of plywood with painted keys. The app got me further really quick learning how to use both hands, and that the numbers above notes mean something. I can’t help but wonder what exactly I learned as a kid, and why I’m picking up on things quickly in comparison. I do know how to touch type. The main thing I know I’m probably doing wrong is hand placement as I’m often catching my thumbs resting in front of keys rather than on them, curling, posture, height of piano vs seat, etc. and probably a ton of stuff I’m not thinking of.

This sure brings back memories. My older brother was a prodigy and I remember being awakened every morning before school when he would be practicing on the grand piano our parents somehow managed to afford. We were both in grade school at the time, he being four years older. I would have been in first grade at the time. He was quite the talent and played with our local symphony orchestra before he was ten years old! I still remember when we had Leonard Bernstein over for dinner when he was in town as a guest conductor. This environment instilled in me my lifelong appreciation for classical music. Sadly, my brother's demons ended up costing him his life, but I still have fond memories of those days.

I almost have this piece mastered. I like to play the middle section slower because it’s so beautiful, and playing it fast doesn’t do it justice. It’s a symphonic ocean I could swim in all day. Great job playing so well in such a short period of time.

Honestly? Of course this video went through edits before being posted. This Etude Pathetic by Scriabine cannot be studied in 1 minute, 10 minutes or even an hour. Best regards😢

People you dont need a teacher wich cost LOTS of money. A app is enough and mix in some youtube videos for more information. And keep practicing you wil be playing the piano in no time! Just keep going NEVER GIVE UP its that easy

It’s a very different experience if you link it with a midi controller. Using the iPads microphone allowed me to get away with mistakes… Using a cheap midi controller then made the timings accurate. Notes accurate. Changed the experience.

how much sight reading should i do daily to get to your level? and are there any resources you would reccomend?

this is awesome! i have to learn this piece myself, and it is going very slow so i have questions. i noticed you learned it backwards, which i think i will try. how did you manage to learn it in just a week, i mean what did you do? did you just sight read through a certain amount of pages or how did you do it? i would really like to try this challenge out!

I had the problem of the microphone not detecting me playing over the sound of the app’s songs. It was better for me to use headphones to hear the app’s songs and then the microphone could hear my instrument.

Maybe you are too young to get anything out of the hand stretches. I think it is a great idea to do some stretches if your hands get stiff. I studied oboe for many years and ultimately had to quit after about 19 years because of extreme hand pain.

It’s huge drawback is that it only has a total of 10 voices , and all the voices are just piano voices that’s all, no other instrument voices are included! For a $20k+ digital piano, that’s just unacceptable!🤦🏻‍♂️

I tried to find the sheet music for Amazing Grace to match what I was learning in the course. It is not available; they arranged it for Flowkey only. So I am not able to play it without my computer unless I memorize the sheet music. Wish I would have known that before I purchased!!

Erm, yeah. I can play 3 blind mice. But only with one hand. That's my current sight reading ability. I'm using a drills app to learn other notes on the treble clef and will move onto the bass clef next. After that, going to use a rhythm drills apps. What would be the next step after this? I can play songs after listening a few times, I know where the notes are, but it's all done by ear. I spent 30 years completely ignoring sight reading and music theory.

Thanks for sharing ideas about playing duets with yourself, especially the tip about pedaling. I've had the N3X for a few years and love it but I haven't been using the Record function. I have a laptop hooked up with PianoTeq app for more piano sounds - I find it helps to play a piece I think I know well with a different sound as the change throws you off a little and the weak spots seem to jump out!

I haven’t read all of the comments, but I did watch a lot of videos on RUclips about music theory. I started learning all the chords and I started learning all of the inversions as well as scales. Then I purchased simply piano and it confused me because they immediately went first and second inversions of chords. As a beginning piano player, I found it’s important to learn the chords before you learn the inversions so you really understand what you’re doing. I have been using simply piano for about a month now as a beginning piano player, and I also noticed I started relying on fingers versus actual notes. I’m now nearing 60 years old and I played saxophone when I was younger so I kind of remembered the treble scale, but it didn’t seem like they concentrated much on actual site reading versus teaching you how to use your fingers with numbers. That threw me off as well. I think at this point I’m going to give up on simply piano and higher and instructor.

How is Simple Piano today as 2 years ago, does it still got the same style? What I need is a piano app that makes me addicted.

I loved it and paid 350€ for lifetime subscription but worst part is songs just vanish time to time and the good ones usually like Coldplay - Sky full of stars and the helpdesk is quite useless.
