This is a tutorial on how to change the battery in your R.A.T 9. THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED!! This is moderately hard thing to do. It takes some equipment and some common sense, and most of all some patience. Please Please Please be careful, Lithium Ion batteries can be dangerous if you short them out or heat them up. Also please don't cut yourself, take your time there is no rush. I hop...

I don't remember one but it's been a while. Only my tohatsus have filters.
newer yamahas have , but this one... I got one from guy who is far away from knowing about outboards and motor has been sitting outside for 3-4 years
there is, you have to remove the oil drainplug en then on the plug there is a oil filter

Not really from what I remember. But we sold that machine 7 years ago so I'm sure it hasn't gotten better for whoever has it.

at hull speed sure, which is about 7-8mph not much more than that. Make sure its the right shaft length for your boat as well.
Great job! I just have possibly one suggestion to make the soldering easier? On Amazon you can buy these (AAA 3.7 Volt Lithium Ion 10440 Battery with Tabs (350 mAh) ) batteries with solder tabs on them which makes attachment much safer and easier. Even with the lower mAh rating, they work just like new.

Yea. You can buy these tachometers that wrap a wire around a spark plug wire. They work great I've used them on a couple of my outboards.

Nope came with electric start. There isn't a recoil start on it

I know this comment is old, but the high thrust has 60 percent more thrust in forward and 70 percent more in reverse. In relation to a standard 9.9.

No I think it just has beefy coils there's no separate alternator

marcus lindquist, check to see if all the coils are going at idle I had mine run rough on idle and it was because the connection was bad for the coil at the plug. But at speed it would spark gap and run fine. Also each of the 3 carbs is tuneable so you may have to fiddle with that.

Alberto Krebel yea the max you can get is 350mah. Just find some real aaa lithium cells.

Stock battery is 2x 210 mAh stuck together, and he replaced it with a (measured) 340 mAh, so... no.

Thanks for the vid, just did this on mine. Batteries in my Rat9 were lasting 30 min. Driving me nuts. New one's are charging now! Used some flux on the battery terminals and it flows quick.
one more thing mate , your battery needs a charge controller or it will get damaged . watch my Video , i did it in a better way , hope it will help .
TAK Ism. There is a charge controller in the charging station as well as in the mouse. So there is no need for one.

hm yeah, not without a joule thief or boot amp, but then it would just eat batteries. Wonder if a wireless power board could be designed to work with it. the 'battery pack' would be a receiver antenna to 3.7v converter.

Curtis B if you take that chip out it won't charge properly and you will blow something up or really damage somethong

I believe he is referencing the small chip connected to the original cells that you discarded. So you are saying we need that chip when soldiering the new AAAs or only when using the original cells?
That is most likely the battery controller circuit for the litium polimer battery that was originally used in the battery pack.

battery's on ebay , its a Bluetooth headset battery or mp3 headset battery , plus u can open the case without a cut , heat with heat gun , but be aware 2 much heat will damage the case or u burn the battery inside or put a small hole on the body and use air to make it open .

Have you got some problems charging the batteries after replacement or it still works fine? I mean in particular if the charging dock is still able to use the green indicator when the battery is fully charged.
