@@steve9836 Ally X has USB 4 40Gbps. It is not Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is Intel technology so u will hardly find it in devices using AMD processor eg laptops. Having said that, it can still use this new XG Mobile. Yes, while Ally X will not be able to fully utilise the 5090, it will still be better performing than the 5070 Ti (there’s no 5070 variant for this eGPU) despite the bandwidth bottleneck. But it really depends on the price. Has not been officially stated in Asus website but it is said the 5090 is $2199 while the 5070 Ti is $1999. Hope the price of the 5070Ti is not true as the $200 difference makes it more worth to just get the 5090 variant

@@lrs7677 won’t work with the OG Ally Z1E but can work with Ally X as it has a USB4 40Gbps port

Thunderbolt technology is an Intel-developed connectivity standard. You won’t find any AMD laptop with Thunderbolt. Yes sad indeed. Need to wait for USB to have equivalent specs to TB5

you will need to check your specific LG Gram model as there have been few versions over the years and find out if it has either a thunderbolt 4 or a USB 4 Type C (40Gbps) ports. It can use it if it has either of these ports

Well the GPU will be faster but the connection will be slower. I don't think this will pass the throughput of the legacy XG port unless the laptop has USB5. That 24GB of VRAM is nice though. I hope this puts downward pressure on the price of 3080 XG mobiles. Those will be good buys at $500-700. Right now, the 6850 XG Mobiles are still fetching that which is too expensive in my opinion.

@@raine006 just looked at the specs, it says x13 has 1x Type-C USB 4 with support for DisplayPort™ / power delivery (data speed up to 40Gbps). In that case, yes it will work with x13 2022

Anyone can buy an EGPU dock for a hundred bucks, get the 5070 for $549 bucks and call it a day for 1300 cheaper

It will be a laptop 5090. A game will not take advantage of 2 GPUs in a laptop. You may be able to use both for AI or computation though. Both will be visible to the OS. Desktop 5090 is way too big for that tiny enclosure.

@@bboyalanleung123 laptop with discrete 5090 will likely be more performant than this eGPU anyway as it’s using the native / local PCIe port of the motherboard

@@AgingBoy It depends on the monitor you're using - the entire idea behind having such an impressive bandwidth of TB5 is to avoid the bottleneck. If you're using an external monitor and disable your laptop's screen you by-pass Nvidia optimus, while separating the cooling workload between the GPU and the CPU. Your laptop will cool your CPU, and the XG mobile will cool it's GPU which is now in use, the communication over TB5 (80-120gpbs) should by-pass any relevant bottleneck and thus avoid performance loss, as if you were to use a discrete GPU.
