It finally happened, absolutely and definitively: the worst loss of the season.

The Twins ownership and Falvey are playing a shell game with assets. At the end of this season: Kepler comes of the book for 10 million, Margot off for 10 million, Farmer for 6.25 million, DeSclafani 4 million, Vazquez could be a 10 million salary dump. That’s about 43 million they could spend in free agency next year if you keep the 2025 payroll the same as the reduced 2024 payroll. That’s not even counting Santana’s contract which ends this year and Castro (because his salary will probably double or triple because he’s an All Star and his salary will be jacked up in arbitration so he will probably be traded).

The Tigers deserve the wild card spot but the Twins will make the playoffs because they will sweep the horrible Marlins at Target Field.

And Cleveland is doing all this without 3 starting pitchers and their All-Star left fielder so we can’t moan about injuries on the Twins as an excuse.

How long before the Twins bring up Varland for the bullpen. He couldn’t be any worse than Richards, Okert, Henriquez or Thielbar.

I'm gonna say that would be a yes on the sando-and keep them coming.

Man, for pocket change the Pohlads could have such a better reputation while doing their basic service to their fellow upper midwesterners. And of course, it was their greed that fucked up the TV deal in the first place. Clowns.

Aaron, Buxton didn't go on the IL a month or so ago. It was May 3rd - 10 weeks ago. And he's been back from the IL for 2 full months.

The Marlins made the playoffs last season as the NL 5th seed; they lost to the Phillies in the wild card round. Also, Kim Ng was not fired but resigned after effectively being demoted.

I have to skip through the parts where John is laughing his head off, so I miss about a third.

Aaron, your comments and your insight on the incentives involved at the end of this podcast are right on the money. My only addition is that I think you could find something personally fulfilling by taking your insight to a more analytic/publishable level by getting your degree, in economics or statistics. You definitely have the gift. And I think there is value if you can take your incisive insight on how things works and explain it even better. I think it would work for you as well and expand your opportunities. Not that you are doing poorly now. Love the pod. Thank you for the effort.

What confuses me about looking to trade Polo or Kepler in the context of reducing payroll and free agency: there really aren't any free agents that aren't wildly out of the Twins level who are obviously better than either Polo or Kepler, and certainly none I'd see significant value in having more years of. Trade them for value if you think it can improve the big league team, sure, but talking about how it clears payroll in a year where there really isn't much to buy without specifying targets (should be easy, it's a shallow pool) just feels like saying stuff just to say stuff. And a Gleeman favorite, I follow about half the league fairly closely between NL and AL, and every single fanbase and media pool is doing this exact same thing. It's a dull FA outside of the single greatest player to ever live and a different Japanese pitcher.

For some reason when I have listened to the last few episodes on Spotify they seem to lock up mid sentence around the hour mark and I haven't found a work around in the app for this. Thanks for posting on RUclips so I can listen at work and get the whole thing without creating undue attention commenting aloud on my appreciation of the Spotify situation. Go Twins!
