Ep. 238: Daniel Wagner on Geopolitics in 2025
For the past few years, I've had Daniel Wagner on the show at about this time of year to give a look ahead at the state of the world from a geopolitical perspective. We do that again as 2024 comes to a close and 2025 is just a few days away.
Daniel is my co-author of Decision-Making in the Polycrisis Era. He is the CEO of Country Risk Solutions and knows quite a bit about geopolitics. This is a conversation that I hope gets you to be perhaps a bit more curious about the state of the world. It is concerning out there, and we don't shy away from that. But with understanding comes a better ability to act.

Chris Darwin here. Thanks for listening. I hope this discussion improves your life by improving the quality of your decisions. When I listened to this podcast I noted that I got a few facts wrong or I did not explain things clearly. Apologies. Here are the corrections. 6:53 minutes: I said that Charles said we are ‘monkeys’. Charles did not say that and we are not a monkey. We are part of the primates (order) and apes (family). 10.09 minutes: I said that Charles liked four options, as far as I know Charles never specifically said four options. 16.06: I said that Charles decided to go on a voyage around the world. He did sail around the world but the original plan was to go to South America. 25:15: I said there are 5,000 mammal species, when I check this, it appears that there are over 6,000. 25:51: I implied that blue whales and elephants do not drink milk. I should have said that ‘mature’ blue whales and elephants do not drink milk. All mammals drink milk when they are young but then stop. Humans are the only mammal I know of that drink milk all their life. 31.07: I said that when using inductive thinking, you start by coming up with a range of options. That is incorrect. You start by collecting data. Once you have enough data you start generating hypotheses and then you reduce those hypotheses down to one, which may give you a theory. With deductive thinking you start with a hypothesis, then collect data to either prove or disprove your hypothesis. If you prove your hypothesis, you have a theory. 32:33: I said that Charles shot a platypus, that was incorrect, the local landowner shot the platypus and then showed it to Charles. 33:19: I said that Charles came up with a theory on how life on Earth started. I believe he came up on a theory explaining how species evolved and how new species are created. Have a happy and fulfilled life, Chris Darwin

So thank you, and Gary for the insights shared and…. I’m sorry to hear about the recent ‘break up’ I always thought / feared that ‘risk’ was a ‘risk’ 😉🧎🏼‍➡️

Mathew 24 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

Sitting in a living room hoping to talk to family when all they're doing is looking at their IPhone. It's not only the affect on that person on the iPhone, but it affects the other people in the room since they are feeling shunned. It shouldn't happen!

Since the release of the documentary 13 LOST numerous complaints were made that the British divers Rick Stanton and John Volanthen in fact did credit Ben Reymenants and Maksym Polejaka for their essential contribution in finding the children, especially when Rick and John gave up on the rescue. Truth is Rick Stanton did not officially credit the two European divers until 3 years after the rescue (1 year after the release of 13 LOST) and John Volanthen never assigned any credit to their invaluable help. Even though in his book "Thirteen Lessons that Saved Thirteen Lives" John explained that one should always give credit where credit is due (Lesson 8). In fact John only discredited Ben Reymenants in his book and never even mentioned Maksym Polejaka once. Video link: ruclips.net/video/qGC7vWTLVE8/видео.html

HERO Dr. Harris. Among the MANY miracles, is that the children did not recall any of it - not one incident, freak out, break down in the plan/dive or tragedy involving the children. Apparently, the boys literally recall passing out in the cave and waking in the hospital, like a nap.
