Cooperation Hull’s Second People's Party was on Saturday 16th August at the Polar Bear, with amazing local bands, DJs, comedians & food, as well as these inspiring speeches!
Cooperation Hull are a movement for People's Assemblies. We believe local people need to be able to make decisions about their own lives - having the hard conversations with their neighbours and learning how to disagree whilst still working together.

Cooperation Hull burst onto the scene with a hugely successful People's Assembly in Pearson Park on the 3rd of June 2023, in which local people came together to share hotdogs, and discuss the issues that matter most to them. In the future they won't believe that we only got to participate in decision making once every four years, and then didn't even get to vote for who we wanted because of tactical voting. We have to build our own systems separate from the state where people actually have control over their own lives. Well done co-operation Hull ❤

I've just received a leaflet through my door saying there will be a neighbourhood assembly at welcome House. What is an an assembly what do you do there. Do you listen to a speaker or are you asked questions? What happens? Thanks
Hi Catherine! An assembly is a public meeting bringing a specific community together - in our case Hull postcodes. What is done there is a discussion led by local people about the problems they experience in their area and how they can collectively address them. These conversations are guided by broad questions to get the ball rolling, a speaker would mainly facilitate the meeting rather than talk at people. Having brought a community together to discuss their area we aim to build upon that by having communities organize themselves rather than putting their faith in politicians to make the necessary changes.
