This is the VR4 that we did a rear turbo rebuild on. It was driven to my house fine in the morning. We rebuilt the turbo.. Put everything back together and when we tried to start it. This happened. Its a very noticable knock or tick. Im thinking either a bad lifter, I bad injector or (what Im affraid of) a spun barring. In the video it doesnt sound that bad but in person its pretty noticable. O...

hydraulic lifters are wearing out comon thing with these cars
Sounds like you bent a valve. My 91 vr4 did the same exact thing. It would crank a few times, fire up then die. If you went to crank it again, the engine will just turn over and over and won't fire. If you let the car sit an hour or two, it will fire up again but die. Found out when they reset the timing, I could hear the valve hitting the piston. I sold the car. Wish I would have kept it, and rebuilt the heads.
