FUDNF
Канада
Добавлен 20 мар 2024
This channel is where I share my passion for Ultra Marathons, Running, Fitness, and pushing myself to the limits. In additional to longer videos that document my training I upload shorts that are focused on mindset, motivation and are aimed to inspire and challenge you to push what you believe is your limit. The concept of FUDNF comes from the "DNF" part which in the running world stands for "Did Not Finish". The FU part is self explanatory and represents having a desire to never quit, in races and in life.

I keep randomly getting your videos recommended and I really enjoy them. Gonna have to sub. 😂 The trails there were sooo green how can that be in Canada? 😂

I think it’s a great idea to start your training and your logistical preparation early, and to bring in a coach with some ultra experience. It seems like you’re really setting yourself up for success. I’ll be interested to see how your training goes. And maybe I’ll see you blowing past me on the trail in June!
@@wesritner4540 Thanks Wes! Not sure about the blowing past you part but I will be out there! 😂😎
Pacers- I have had a few good here are the qualities. I had a pacer who was a super chatty lady, she would just tell amazing stories about places she ran. I was so tired and hurting that it was actually a nice distraction to focus on her story. I also had my bro in law pace me and he was quiet and gave me my space. Rules for pacers - they are not permitted to complain about anything that is hurting them in the moment chances are you are in worse pain, they should never ask you how you are doing or how you are feeling (you are running 200 miles you are not going ot want answer how you are feeling). I good pacer will do whatever you need, tell them if you want some quite time,. They should just encourage you and assess your coherence. Crew - i know you didn't ask for any advice here but i had used friends and family to crew me and I wish i would have trained them and given them better instructions ( spreadsheets :) I have crewed a few people in the past and the crew boss needs to have thick skin because they may very well get to see your dark site ( so choose wisely). I will be at LSU too in September, I got the 100 done but the 50 k seems to be my nemesis strangely enough . Also agree 100% with warrenl3545 Prairie mountain repeat. Calgary Trail running meet up club used ot do them often, if you have not tried out that group they are quite good to run with and will et you out in the mts a bit more ( safety in numbers)

Sunday was a mixed bag for sure. I had two dogs with me (one husky) and it felt like I was training for the Iditarod. I did a couple overnight Sartan races and found Nose Hill at night to be good practice. As for the legs and lungs you will need for Tahoe, Prairie mountain works well. There's lots of ups, decent, and flat connector trails. I would offer to help pace, but I've only done that on shorter distances.
@@warrenl3545 Thanks Warren. Appreciate the tips. 👍🏻😎
i will watch your journey and progress and see what training you do. i never see much training on the endurance vlogs of athletes running or training on hills. where i live in UK soon as i start my run I'm faced with a step incline for 1/2 mile and is a killer as well as other hills would love to see athletes showing some hill training. good luck will be following.

How do you exercise River on days when you're either not running or doing a really long run? Like you, I expect that this would likely be two days each week in my case when ramping up for a marathon or half. Thanks!
@@geoffb2900 Great question. River loves off leash time without having to work so a simple trip to the park or trails is his favourite. He loves frisbee and just going for walks where he can just chill and not have to “work”. The other key I find for GSP’s is that they like to work so even when they are not working super hard physically if you can get their minds working/thinking that plays them out as well. They are amazing tracking dogs so we will place River, show him an object that he likes and then go hide it in the house or yard. We them tell him to “find it” and he gets to work, brings it back and can do this for as long as we want to.
He barely goes down for a push up. It looks like half rep push ups
1 rep???? 😅😅😅😅
@@user-nr3iv1vu4y Crazy right. Need to see how many “reps” I could actually do. 😎💪🏻
Super clean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clean!
They need to drop the "DNF" phrase for when you stop. Very negative for a positive accomplishment, regardless of the distance. And if you run 100 miles and get a DNF because somebody else ran 104... gimmie a break - you didn't DNF just because somebody else went farther. I predict in 5 years that term will be replaced with FY (finished yard) and then the lap number. As in somebody had a FY15. Much more useful and descriptive term.
@@ZenEndurance Really good points and agree. It’s a bit deflating to the majority of the field that run personal bests and still get a DNF. I have a love hate relationship with the backyard format. Maybe because I still feel like I can go deeper and haven’t mastered the strategy yet. 🤷🏼♂️ Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your comments.
I always get a good laugh out of all the declarations and instructing others on how things are going to go and stretching/warming up like it’s going to help whatsoever. Your first lap is your warmup (save your energy) and just have a loose plan and go with the flow.
I can fart twice in a row. But sometimes i have this dream, this wonderfull tought,.. That i could be able to fart 3 times in a row.
This is so true and I think about it always, it opens up possibilities for you!
@@pingupungo3365 Same here. 😎
Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping to get a GSP next spring/summer, and start running with it after it's fully grown. The one reservation I have is that I usually run on pavement/asphalt, and that the impact would be too stressful on the joints for longer distances (10+ miles). What surface do you usually run on?
@@ayadal Hey thanks for your comment. We run on paved pathways a lot, probably 90% of the mileage River does. The key is to wait like you say until they are fully grown and develop. Start slow and gradually build up once your dog is old enough. When they are young work on perfecting the heel and obedience. They are awesome dogs!
I wonder what my grandchildren will have
@@marcusrusso2988 I wonder the same. It’s a scary thought. 😎

I became an evening runner when my kids were young, get them to bed and then head out and it just stuck. I have tried morning running but prefer the evening because of if I want to turn 7k into 12k, I don’t have to worry about running out of time. Great gym you have there!
@@mikemackenzie8618 Thanks Mike. Your night approach is smart! Also makes you better at running in the dark which I know a lot of people struggle with. 💪🏻
I run morning, evening, night all time of the day. :) When it fit's in with having smaller kids. :) I love to run in the winter and in the dark, from Denmark, so we have many dark hours, rain, grey skys. So it's better in the dark. But nice video, keep that up.
@@SGEnemark It’s always tougher when you have small kids. Good job finding a way to keep getting it done. Thanks for sharing your comments! 😎
I've started morning running but to keep my day the same I've changed my wake up time to 04:30. It's only day 11 but so far I'm still going strong. I like the feeling being out when no one is about and doing something positive when everyone else is sleeping. Great video.
@@benmurray1975 Love it. I agree that there is something powerful about being out there before anyone else. Keep that momentum rolling Ben!

@@JohannKapler Next time finish first. 🤷🏼♂️
I’m wanting to take my GSP on a half marathon race next year. His longer runs now are at 7-8 miles. He currently is 14 months which means he would be about 16-18 months if we did a half marathon later towards the beginning of 2025. Is that too early as long as I slowly condition him to 13.1 miles?
@@fitnessessentials1 I’m definitely not a vet but that would be pushing the limit in my opinion. If he slowly builds up his mileage it could be possible. I was super patient in getting River out running longer distances as I’ve seen other people hurt their dogs with too much too soon. I would think long term knowing that if you take it slow you will have a running partner for 10+ years.
Ok. Cool. I appreciate it. He’s the absolute best and I don’t want to hurt him. To be honest, the reason I want to do a half with him is to continue to do cool stuff with him. I want him to experience it all. I want the world for him. Thanks for the advice
@@fitnessessentials1 You’re welcome 👍🏻 I’m the same as you. These dogs are the best and make amazing companions. I’ve heard it takes up until they’re 3 years old to fully develop so just be mindful of that. Sounds like he’s off to a great start. Congrats!

Another great video. Coming from a cycling background I really like SIS gels. They are not as thick and go down easy. I try multiplying numbers to distract myself and since I’m horrible at math, it works for me.
@@fernandobagnasco7365 Thanks! Agree on the SIS gels. I’ve used those before and have found them to work well. Only criticism I have is that the gel is bigger so when you carry a bunch it takes up more space. 😎👍🏻
I agree about the Pulse belt, hate putting it on as well. I bought the Naked belt to replace it and same issue. Would be so nice to have a big clip on the back to snap them on and off quickly. Good honest review of these products. It seems like maybe Salomon is falling behind a bit to the other competitors in this field after owning top spot for years, especially in the shoes. 🇨🇦
