Great video. Captures the New Orleans R&B groove that wss essential for Little Feat
Master of the, "swing pocket." I just made that saying up. RH groove always, "swang" but still kept the pocket too - somehow. One of a kind he was. A drummer's drummer for sure.
♥
Fuck yeah!
what a cool tribute! and all these great drummers putting their feel to it. as a drummer those licks are so hard to pull off and to be able to hit the drums and cymbals in the right way. the whole thing has a jungle feel to it. this is why we have drum heros and try to emulate them, although that is not realistic it is still fun trying.
His drumming with Little Feat - "Day At The Dog Races" live in Essen/Germany 1977 (1. Rockpalast Nacht/1st Rockpalace Night) was awesome! Watch it on YT.
One of the Very Best, yet highly Underrated Drummers in history ....... No one like him and a great guy too!!!! Miis Ya Richie R.I.P. !!!
Didn't find out about Richie till Robert Plant pictures at 11:00. Whatever percussion piece or drum that's getting hit on I think the four of that beat every other time around I believe I'm not a real counter at all LOL but it's so unique sounding and just is in the perfect tune for what's going on and very f****** cool
Yet another stunning indictment of the U.S. medical "system". Nowhere else in the developed world would someone have to have a fundraiser for straightforward medical care, let alone some one as valuable to human joy as Ritchie. I'.m Canadian and after 9 yrs living and working in the US (which has many fine qualities) glad to be back here with our just fine universal health care.
I think Buddy Rich would've approved of Richie. The best I ever heard. Just a great band and I think Jimmy Page mentioned Little Feat being his favourite band.
im richie too.AND I PLAY DRUMS! and not gone yet too. great vid! thx!!!!
beautiful tribute to a great man and drummer. no-one on earth had his syncopation and groove. God bless you RH
I have tried to play Spanish Moon 100 times and still can't get it right, so many cool snare fills and funky licks. One day I will nail it and have a walk off stick drop moment and I will consider myself an accomplished drummer.
Great tribute guys! Props to everybody involved
Hayward was unique like a Ginger Baker or Levon Helm type...a certain sound that was not off the rack.
So New Orleans, So Little Feat. Best ever.
This is beautiful.
Richie was THE BEST!! Nice job on this video. Thanks!
One of Robert Plants Fav drummers
My favorite groove. The best.
Thanks for this guys.
Thanks for posting this. I always listen to Richie. The Beat of the Feat
Killer drummer......Rest in Eternal Peace Brother............
Part of your life that most of us don't think about much is the memories we inspire in others. This memorial demonstrates how much many thought of Richie Hayward.
The new song could be " Richie, you're now gone. Richie, go play that sound"
He ain't gone in my heart or mind. I love you brother.
Great drummer great band RIP
He not gon not in my eyss all 3 of threm
Love this, great tribute 👏👏
Really touching tribute. Thanks
beautiful
When I saw the Feats for the first time it was Ritchie and Kenny who grabbed my attention...so economic and downright funky / locked in . In Manchester England 1975 ? I am not a drummer .
RHYTHM IS.
Always in our hearts and soul
Lovely tribute to a truly great but underrated drummer. He had a groove like no other! Had the honour of seeing Little Feat at the Rainbow theatre in London ‘77 some of waiting for Columbus was recorded there! 🤗
Little Feat..............What a band....
Brilliant Fellas!! Richie is favorite drummer ever. I have o.i and no one ever thought i could play drums. But Richie's style motivated me so much I actually became a professional performer. I owe it all to him. I got to meet him once and told him this while sitting in a wheelchair. His simple comeback to me was. Man! I'm just a burnt out hippie!! Off course i knew better.
*sigh*
Richie Hayward was awesome. Unbelievable what sounds he could produce. He and my ABB drummers, Jaimoe and Butch were the best. Butch played all sorts of odd things in the mid 70s.
Totally swingin' drummer of the first degree. RIP, Richie......
Richies drumming on robert plants trouble your money was a masterclass in setting up figures so simple yet so powerful ..his drumming really opened doors for me , RIP
That was a great album shaken and stirred
RIP Richie Hayward, a great drummer !
I drove Ritchie around Albuquerque for a few days and he returned the favor by giving me drum lessons. He was the best nicest guy ever.
I remember!
Richie Hayward was a big influence on me.....No Richie you aint gone ...
Nice & Greasy !
Thanks tor the tribute fellas, its great to see Ziggy is a Richie fan. In my humble opinion they are the two finest drummers its been my privilege to hear.
Nobody will ever be able to replace him. He had that ability to be so freaking tight add to this those incredible high harmonies. My favorite drummer ever. RIP Richie. Now he only plays for God.
Folks ask me all the time who my favorite drummer is. I give 'em the Buddy Rich answer: 'its the guy Im listening to now' thing. But as a kid seeing Little Feat ('90 reunion) I noticed my flimsy kid skills on a kit was enlightened by this master that evening (and after that Butch and Jaimo for 3 hrs)!! ABB! He (Richie) was so innovative and groovy and smiled a lot! Little Feat love from Texas.
RIP Ritchie. I feel honored to have seen you perform so many times. You are one of the greatest drummers of all time!
Another groove king gone R.I.P. legend.
Had the pleasure of working with Richie in 1979 for a tour with Joan Armatrading - 3 week rehearsal and 3 week tour of Canada. Live album recorded by Glen Johns. Shortly after that he had the bad motorcycle accident. Saw him quite a few times after that. Great to see all the other drummer friends on the video with Richie - he inspired many of us... RIP Richie...
Saw that tour In Calgary Red!. Closest I’d been to feats ((Richie AND Bill!) at that time. Felt honoured. Recorded his final performance at Vancouver Island Musicfest for broadcast on the CBC Radio show I produced. Humbling and very emotional.
Thanks for this tribute. I really miss Richie's style. He was unique. I STILL remember seeing him with Lowell and the band at Topanga Corral just before Time loves a hero album came out. Even my Dad a 40's big band swing drummer would crack up listening to Richie's sarcastic talking sticks. Drummers know the language and Richie spoke it eloquently.
Richie plays jazz too?
I guess it was a drummers ear to another drummers skill. He heard Richies talking sticks :-)
