    I think this is out of date. The rules have changes slightly about how to determine if a player is involved. Referees are instructed now to wait and see how the play develops before making the call if it is not immediately contacted by a player after being played.

    Offsides makes sense and is fair play . However I think they should get rid of penalty kicks and penalty shootouts . It is such a lopsided advantage to the striker over the goalkeeper

    I am an american born and bred , and I love world football(which we wrongly call soccer here in the usa) . I gave up being concerned or addicted to most sports for 20 years . I had a happy relapse in 2010 world cup where live and replay games were free to watch all over the internet . International football is still new to me but i love it . American or NFL football is so boring and stupid in comparison , one of the reasons i haven't watched in 25 or more years .

      More goals don't make a sport better. In fact, football would be worse without the offside rule. Maybe you should watch some matches because you start talking about the sport.

    I think there are SOME stupid offside rules in football that ruin the game. Some offside rules SEEM to penalize a player for being faster or smarter than his opponent and that sucks (think about that statement and your team before you make a smartass response). Maybe get rid of the offside rule if you're in the 30 yard box or something, I don't know but I would like to see some sort of change to the rule, it would allow for more goals (and wouldn't you like to see some of those bad ass goals count that are ruled offside). Americans don't like football (soccer to them) because it is a low scoring sport. That, and Americans don't understand how much more SKILL it takes to pass a ROUND ball with your FOOT to a man running at full speed perfectly, compared to THROWING a football (NFL BALL), it's a thousand times harder, especially when they CURVE a round ball perfectly in stride to their teammate.

    what if the striker is outside the pitch but still behind the last defender ? is is still an offside ? What if the defenders are past the goal line ,during a free kick, will the striker's positon at the box be ruled as offiside?

    Thanks for the video lesson. Very well done. What I do not get is why this is even an offside call. In any other game that I am aware of (I could be missing some) it is not only ok to get into a position where you are next to the goal ahead of any defenders but it is desired. A football receiver would love to be in the position of being next to the goal post without any defenders around. Basketball also. If the other team is not aware of your position you should not be penalized. In soccer, as compared to football, you at least have a goalie protecting the net. That should be more than enough to not consider it an offside penalty.

    • @thatkalikid
      @thatkalikid 9 лет назад

      +TopDawg A counter attack is the the transition from defense to offense. It's using speed to take advantage of the other teams turnover to get a quick goal before everyone on the opposing team can adjust defensively. Good luck!

    People who say this rule is dumb have obviously never played/watched the game or are just dense. This rule is fundamental in football. What fun would it be if some prick stood behind the defense, received a lobbed pass and scored every time? That reduces the whole concept of the game to schoolyard passing. Some may say "well... that's the defenders' job, to not allow that, no?". No! Just think about it. First at all, that isn't as easy as it sounds, especially if the attacker is fast, and strikers usually are. If the attacker receives the pass there isn't much a defender can do. Just stopping him by force will result in a free kick for the opposing side, or even a penalty if it's in the box. Not to mention a red card for the defender. Cause yes, Americans, you'll receive a red card directly if you are the last defender. Second of all, you may say that you can just put a defender near the attacker at all time and hope he stops it without a fault. That doesn't work. If you do that, the other team just backs it up with another attacker, your team with another defender and so on. So basically you'll wind up with a bunch of players in a cluster near each goal. You can't call it football anymore, can you? This rule is not stupid. Those who say this talk out of their ass. It's the basis of this sport. Americans, just go see a game or, better yet, play some FIFA cause it's good for teaching. You can't talk about a sport after watching a 7 minute video. Some of you act like you've been born with a ball in your arms. I've watched football all my life. In my country, it's like the freakin' NFL. //Yea, 666th comment. I'm Satan and I want to bore you with football! :))

      +spineshivers You foreigners need to get over the name situation. It's soccer. We already have a game called Football. And the off sides rule?! Hey, it would be a lot of fun for the team scoring all the goals if they are cherry picking. If you don't like it go defend him! It might give a team of slower players a more even playing field.

    • @spineshivers
      @spineshivers 9 лет назад

      +Michael Mcallister Where did I ever discuss the naming issue? You can name it any way you want. I frankly don't give a damn. You call it how you want, I call it what I want. As for the offside part, I've described in detail why it's useful and why, by removing it, you turn the whole concept into crap. I've been watching football since I was 5 years old. It's not at all as simple as you think.

    To all of you who claim that it's the defender's duty to prevent player's of the opposite side from camping in their zone and stay in their half of the field for the whole match: They have to defend from the main objective, that is the player who has the ball, and try to steal it away from him/her, several player's shall be across that attacjing player's area so that in case they win possession of the ball they're already in position to prepare offensive tactics as a whole. The game becomes more organized thus and more beautiful with less random positioning of the players.

    • @darkoneforce2
      @darkoneforce2 10 лет назад

      dougconley The problem is that there were games in the early days of the game when all players would pile together like in a rugby scrum and stay like that for the entire match. Or where one player would try to dribble everyone and not pass at all to his team mates. It quite crazy in the begining.
