What an incredible artist, the absolute best!
I was at this recital. The Rhapsody came after an hour of other Liszt's works, all performed at this level of virtuosity and musical finesse. I am grateful forever for the chance of studying with this remarkable artist, who changed my playing at the core. (Also love how Dean adds some fifths to the bass octaves to make them sound diabolical:)))
Beautiful. These videos deserve much more attention and distribution. Very good. Thank you.
How come you are so good? You grab my attention every second. I love Schumann more and more since knowing you. What insights do you have? You are a star.
wonderful playing as always...my amazing teacher
I really like this series please continue
Brava🎉🎉🎉
Wonderful explanation of this extraordinaty piece, thank you very much for this! Please allow me the correction of a little misconception: The word "papillons", which would be directly translated into "butterflies", should not be seen as these fantastic little insects. Instead, it is inspired by Jean Paul, "Flegeljahre", where in the last chapter there is a "Masked Ball", thus the "papillons" should rather be seen as people fluttering around with different aspects of life, lust and emotions.
Hi from Thailand I enjoy watching your video. Thank you for open the musical world through history. Please upload more.❤
fantastic
always superb
Beautiful piece and beautiful performance!!!
Bravo, Dean! As only you could play it!
In every way, totally delightful!! Love the sound, dancing so merrily. Love the phrasing, each shaped to perfection. Love your Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin...everything I hear you play. Thank you, Dean!
What a beautiful performance of this G minor sonata! Each phrase is played with sensitivity and control, along with an excellent concept of the piece as a whole. Even the numerous repeats, a true challenge for the pianist, are held together with interest and flow. The result is a delicate little gem to be enjoyed again and again. Thank you, Claire!
I found this talk very interesting, Maybe I am wrong in thinking she was a b it heavy handed, in particular with some loud chord at the beginning. I remember Clara telling her pupils that forte chords should never b banged.
Für mich die wohl schönste und anrührendste Sonate Scarlattis, danke!
❤ Love all the Scarlatti, Claire!
Beautiful!!!
So exquisite! Absolutely gorgeous! Dean!
Wonderful performance, Dean! Loved it!!!!
Fabulous performance, Claire!!!!!!
Exquisite rendition. Bravo!
2:02 apparently Chopin hated it
Beautiful, Dean. Thank you.
Thank you, Dean. Lighthouse Camp lives on in the most beautiful and magical ways.
lovely
Bravo Dean!
Powerful, passionate, clean, convincing and beautiful playing! Thank you very much!!! What a great piece of music!
What a great performance! Phenomenal precision, control, and the perfect understanding. Wow, 1000 times wow. In style and with ready ease. Bravo, Maestro!
Oh, memories!
Claire Wachter's playing of Schumann is really beauiful. I am now waching Part 4 and will listen again to the previous ones. Here I have only one doubt about the speed of Trauemerei. Clara's metronome mark is too fast but her pupils said she didn't play it that fast but a bit faster than it is uaually taken. It is dreamy but also has a touch of humour. But Claire plays it so beautifully that I don't care
Claire plays it wonderfully and has the right touch. Though I very much agree with Murray Perahia's perspective on the tempo marking, where he says it's much more appropriate to play it at a faster tempo than it's normally taken. Playing it slow and too espressivo makes it more melancholic than Schumann originally intended. ruclips.net/video/Jgq16qX3bHY/видео.html Just confirming your intuition with the words of one of the finest interpreters. :)
Charming! Filled with graceful motion, making one wish to sway with the music.
Very nice. I'm glad I found your explanations
Why is someone a "Steinway artist" and not simply and purely an "artist on its own"? Does Steinway own some artists? Is that modern slavery? What do they get for being bought? What freedoms to they give up to be a Steinway artist? Is it an honour to be a Steinway artist or is it rather frowned upon?
Rachmaninov has received offers from several piano manufacturers. He chose Steinway for the rest of his life, although it was the only one who didn't offered him any retribution !
@@LaurentPingaultLyon Interesting information, thank you. For some kind of music, a Steinway might be the right choice. When one needs power and impact, a Steinway can do it. Personally I prefer the sound of a Fazioli or a Bösendörfer or a Bechstein, though. The Steinways are clanging too much in my ears 😬 . Many dear greetings to you 👋
So lovely, thank you for sharing!
Absolutely divine playing, with elegant restraint and velveteen sonorities!
Beautiful performance.
Beautiful!!!!!!
Lovely!
Wat a wonderful series! You really draw us in and use words with music to create atmosphere and depth. Thank you! ❤
I've been watching the new Chopin winner; Bruce Liu, and that brings back memories of the 1975 get-together (and I hope you are enjoying your retirement). I followed the competition while I was at Stony Brook and it was great fun to hear about it. Any interest in doing some concert style youtubes?
Great sound from your piano! I am deeply humbled and honoured to call Beethoven my teacher (6 generations ago). I agree with you about the link between the slow movement and the string quartet - another example would be the sonata number 7 slow movement bearing a striking similarity to the eerie slow movement of his first quartet. ruclips.net/video/7uxUnaTghzY/видео.html
