@theH2experience thanks dude. I will check them out appreciate it
@@homerswimson7994 absolutely, thanks for stopping by and happy paddling!
That looks awesome! I see that you were both in an Agent. Do you think if you were in your Covert, there would have been a better chance you would have had a swim? Do you find the Agent more stable and forgiving?
I actually have taken the Covert as well. I like to use the Agent on my first runs quite often, it is more forgiving. The agent is a bit harder to roll than the Covert. That being said, the edges on the Covert can be caught pretty easy, and if you are not ready it will whip you over and out pretty quickly. I have gotten better at my Covert as well, it is much quicker but not as dry on big water.
Very nice and I have the same truck I am going to do this for. I think I will stick with the 2 x 10s for more support as I may carry some heavy items on top of the platform when traveling . Thanks for the measurements for the short bed F 150 as dimensions are the same I think for my 2017 . They make some very slick tape / material you can put on the bottom of those slides to slide out even easier on your spray in bedliner - UHMW. I wanted something that I did not have to screw together and this is it I believe. I may decide to hinge the a shorter back extension section to also add as a drop down over the draw/slide openings Let me know if you have any modifications you would suggest
@@philipdooley8932 all that sounds great. It has worked out well for me so far. Thanks for the suggestions! Good luck! Let me know how it goes.
What is your seat ht?
@@RobCassammy agent is stock, modifications to the saddle height. Info shave 1 inch off my covert but leave the Agent stock as it comes from silver birch.
Between the Agent and the Covert, do you have a favorite? Thanks for the tips!
This is a tough one. I do love them both but I often find myself using the Agent more often. However, I recently took the Covert out on a few trips and also fell in love with it again. But, I do most often find myself in the Agent.
I would love to see a comparison in the water in the way the 2 pfd's float you in a swim situation.
Legend!!! I was hoping someone did this. This has helped so much 🎉
Glad it has helped! Good luck!
Hey mate. I’ve started this build and up to cutting the handles and the jigsaw pieces. How did you do the jigsaw bit that holds the ply to the 1x10’s ? Did you just measure the thickness of the ply and then add the rounded bits at the edges? How did you decide the length also? Thank you. Same questions for the extension jigsaw bit?
You can kind of see at the 17:41 mark. I made a jig to cut those holes out. I then used 1x material to mount on top of the vertical 1x slats. I don't have the skills or precision tools to cut them out of the vertical 1x so I kind of cheated and put them in after the fact. I think I understood and tried to answer best.
@@theH2experience nah, I got how you did that. I don’t think it’s cheating if it makes life easier. I was asking how you determined the length of the bits you screwed on top, and how you made the jig? Width of the 1x10’s and the rounded edges? Hope that explains it a bit better?
@littleadv3ntures oh, I just made them the width of the 1x and made them 6" long. I just tried to make it easy. So I ripped the 1x and made it 1x1x6 then rounded the edges and attached them. That help?
You seem like a pretty competent carpenter to me. (Especially for a musician) I considered how much less competent I am after watching you and decided to buy the bambed. Strong work though. Thanks.
@@johncloughen107 thank you. I hope the Bambed works out great! I am sure it will as it looks like a great product! Cheers!
Great project. I think it’s a winner. Yeah, you could spend more money, but many people don’t need a high priced bed storage.
Very nice! I think I might borrow your borrowed design. I've built a few other sleeping platforms for past trucks, but they've been a pain to remove when I want the full truck bed back. Curious what were the things you found that could be improved upon? Are the vertical support pieces wiggly at the bottom where they meet the bed or are they locked in by the bed liner grooves?
Hey Thanks! Good luck on your build. Couple of things right off the top. I would have gone straight to the 1X vs the 2x for my base supports. They do great, the lock in the top and in the grooves of the bed, no issues there at all. I learned a few things on making my cuts more precise as I went , that is just learning in general. The other thing is I would have paid the extra $50 for the higher grade of plywood. What I have works just fine but the step up would have been just a bit better.
Nice video, brings back good memories... You left out Miller's Folly, one of my favorites!
I did, as luck would have it, that was one of those times I hit record in an eddy above and stopped recording as I pealed out, therefore I had no footage of it. :-(
Are those hammock stands available for anyone? Like the other comment, were planning to stay here while running the SM500 this weekend. But I usually hammock camp and noticed there weren't many trees to use.
@@virginialax03 yes, you can get those as well. I prefer a longer hanging location. If I recall those were a bit small for my hammock. There are some trees you can use and the property does go a little further back too. Give Wayne a call and he can give you more specifics on the stands.

@@jeffsollenberger4889 thank you!! I essentially reversed engineered the market product but I was happy with the results. I learned a few things and could make it better next time but overall was happy. It's nice to challenge yourself. Lol
Great video !! Here is my stupid question !!! What makes the water so fast is it the steep decline in elevation and a mix of big rocks for the water to flow over fast ?
@@jeffreyelliott622 there is often a combination of slope, under water features and the constriction of the water. There are large wide sections of the river that are relatively flat and calm, then it can channelize, all that same amount of water that was in the large wide section now has to go through a smaller more restricted area. Combine that with different under water rocks and features and the flow becomes much more intense. Thanks for watching!
@@theH2experience So is that water considered class 2 or class 3 white water for I remember that movie that Meryle Streep and Kevin Bacon did and a section of a river in West Va. was class 4 and 5 white water if it were true that is !!!
Most consider the New River Gorge to be Class 1,2 &3 rapids with a couple class 4 depending on water levels. The 4s have some technical aspects to it with some potentially very bad outcomes.
I'm about ready to make my attempt.
Going soon man?

Really enjoying your journey in canoeing. Saw River King’s video where you had him paddle at the Green River Revival at the Whitewater Center, and you have sent me on a journey to see how I can get into this action myself. Some older boats are reasonably priced here in North Carolina, so maybe I will give it a shot. I used to whitewater kayak a decent bit in high school, but got away from it. I like the style of canoeing a little more nowadays. Keep it up!
@@TheTWhiteThank you! if you ever see me out you are welcome to hop in a boat and give it a try. I'll warn you, it's addictive!
Hey, I'm having trouble with my offside roll. I'm having a lot of trouble getting the boat flat and getting under the boat. I have a black fly option and my onside roll is feeling very solid. Have any suggestions? Or strokes to pull myself under the boat?
When you say offside roll, you are referencing initiating/falling to your offside, then sweeping back up to your on side, correct? Not trying to actually roll up on your offside?
@@theH2experience Yes, what you called a 360 roll. Falling on offside and sweeping under boat to get to onside
@@Nick_Metz just making sure I was understanding correctly. To be honest that was one of the harder things for me. I just spent time in the pool upside down and worked that motion back and forth until I ran out of breath. I would try and roll up, if I did not I just came out caught my breath again and tried again. Moving the body to the other side as quick as you can should get you past that break point. You have to try and get your blade so it cuts through the water and does not fight against it. I will say, you can ask 10 open boater how to roll and you will most likely get 10 different answers. Finding the thing that clicks for you is what matters. If you can find a pool or a good pond or lake to set up in and just hang out upside down and continue to roll on that offside and practice what you can to get it across to the on side. If you have someone with you that can stand an help flip you over that is good as well. Put in those reps. It sounds like if you can get it across then you will be fine. Don't be afraid to be slow and meticulous at first, get it down and then start to try and speed it up. Hopefully this is a bit helpful and if we meet up on the water I'll do my best to try and help as well!

The little girl in the background is stealing the show! And seriously, the beard. Nice job with it. I need to up my game there. I have the HoverAir X1 and am taking it with my wife. We leave soon on a vacation to BVI where I plan on taking video of us on the different islands there, as well as a few shots in hover mode on our Catamaran while moored or at anchor. I know, I know, I won’t be letting it out over water. As long as it’s downward facing sensors see something to give it a sense of how high it is, it will be fine. The Catamaran is 42 feet long and probably thirty feet wide-plenty of surface space for a hover for sure. I won’t be flying it in any appreciable wind, that’s for sure. Seriously though, looking forward to putting it through its paces and creating a really nice video filled with memories of this beautiful, upcoming vacation!

I enjoyed watching that mostly relaxing and peaceful trip in a part of the country that I'm not likely to see. I appreciate the work all you RUclips producers put in to get such shots on solo trips! I've also watched a number of videos from "Xander Budnick" and "Lost Lakes" channels here on RUclips. Those lads go on some epic wilderness journeys up in Ontario, Canada. I like the remoteness and the big loops they are able to do up there. Some of the whitewater they run looks frankly scary though, at least it does to this old fart! You've probably seen a few of their productions too, but thought I'd mention the channels just in case you have not.
Thanks for watching, I also love those channels you mentioned they do amazing trips and adventures. Just wanted to add a tips for any tipi tent users. There are adapters available that allows you to connect two poles (must be longer for obvious reasons) to make it a A-shape to eliminate center pole to maximize usable space. There are some 3rd party companies that makes it and some tent manufacturers make it for their own but tipi is a tipi, they all work.
Thanks for the tip!
