Tutorial videos for beginners in creative code.
I mainly focus on learning Max MSP Jitter, a graphical programming language used for all kinds of interdisciplinary and interactive sound and visual art. This web series supports a 100-level university course on Computational Thinking that uses Max to illustrate foundational mathematical and computational principles.
I also make videos on whatever I'm currently working on - Tinkercad, Processing/P5.js, and Google Colab among them.

Introduction to Blend Modes
Arts and math integration lesson - this is a detailed description of what is happening at the pixel/signal level in image editors when you change the blend mode, and how you might use this knowledge to select the effect that is right for you.
I cover the math of:
Multiply (darkening)
Screen (lightening, using inversions)
Overlay (contrast mode, using both multiply and screen)
This video was originally created for my class on computational thinking to demonstrate pixel math in a program that is not Max MSP.

Introduction to MIDI in a DAW
Просмотров 1837 месяцев назад
Very brief introduction to how MIDI works for music project in a DAW / Digital Audio Workstation. Shows downloading and importing .MID file and then exporting a single instrument track as its own .MID file. I downloaded my MID files from bitmidi.com I use Bandlab (Bandlab.com) I currently don't know why BandLab is sending out bad audio from my headphone jack, but not my speakers, so I'm looking...

Project example: make sounds and visualizations with webcam tracking
Просмотров 685Год назад
In the spirit of back to school, here is a demo of a motion responsive visualization and sonification patch we made for an elementary STEAM night, made/recorded in early 2023. The project uses web camera input to draw animated shapes on the screen and to (crudely) track motion to generate MIDI notes in GarageBand. Visuals in Processing were made by my fantastic colleague, Loren Olson! Max-ing b...

3 minute timer (with visualization, quiet until the end)
Просмотров 420Год назад
3 minute timer for use in lectures, presentations or classrooms. Animations slowly make their way from left to right as the timer progresses so viewers can get a quick visualization of how much relative time has passed. This one is silent until the end, with gentle music when the timer is up. For one with background music that stops at the end of the 5 minutes, see: ruclips.net/video/mOekvO74mc...

Seems overly complicated and useless. A DAW is the better solution.
You do understand, that this is a graphical live coding envoirment right? Like this is whats happening in your daw's plugine under the hood, a DAW is a completly different type of software for a completly different purpose lol
Hi Kimberlee, I have a blind student wanting to use this software, any tips? Happy to chat! I'm an accessibility consultant but have never worked with this software or something like this before. Looks really complicated and not sure how she will access it. She uses a screen reader but there's so many components.
Thank you. This is enlightening. Having severe communication problems with my partner and was looking for their reasons & possibly solution , this video leads me to that direction. Thank you.
You went fast in the wizard part of the video
you look exactly like my ex gf, great video tho
What can you and me do to understand the message of this video better ?
Thanks for the happy tutorial
Great video! How did you get your image to fit the exact size of the pictrl?
This reminds me of Daniel Shiffman...
Thx
how to get the moudles' files ?
ROMEO:17: (03:15) And I found myself even more conflicted afterwards. I stand here today knowing that we can build. Maybe he is really good at math or so brold. I how no interntantial. You and your family struggled to make ends meet. Every semester of feeling out in sure really. It was a beautiful building and I felt it mastepor of the physical campus to understand why we call it the Hilltop. Every one of them ran back to him. On NoUR naledber, but I could make it to the stage, because I kept slipping it everything in publich, like I Naver, when you have something that comes after about the candidates at every liberal arts education’s meaning, to try to explain why the degree you are about to ret the naisel of overy didactic little parable-ish stories. The story thing turns out to be one of the best thing you can do for self discovery. I know how hard it is to step out and bet on you, deter you from your goff. I wish you
how upload it on host?
In another life time, we were coding buddies :) Thanks for sharing.
What a great intro. Lately playing with AI transcription and summarization of meetings or conference calls. Trying to build my own workflow using various tools rather than some of the paid apps. Love your presentation style and use of screen share tool. Thanks!
thanks!
thanks so much! this is a great video! I'd like the text object to dump out all the data at once. But when I attach a dump message, it only displays the final item in a list. Any ideas?
This was a great introduction for me. Gonna get into Max MSP soon enough now! Thank you Kimberlee!
nice tutorial
idk how to connect the midi and i cannot find any tutorials for the 2024 update of the online version
Nice to see ml.markov still getting some love!
wow great video. FInally reached a point where i need to create files and text seems like an easy way to do it since i think coll and dict add all sorts of extra formatting
1:42 Hey that's the bugle call called "The 1st Post"
Thank you Kimberlee ✨
Thank you
thank you so much! youre an awesome teacher.
Why just not use blender?
yes definitely use Blender instead if you want to do any kind of professional, intricate 3D modeling. You wouldn't use Max to design a 3D object. I use this lesson as a way to introduce the concept of attributes and of live mapping. You also would want to use Max if you wanted to manipulate the 3D objects in real time, for example, in response to audio or another data visualization.
I love how at 14:28 I was like: "hey! this is pretty cool" just to be met with your comment, loved it! This is one of the greatest explanations of sound out there, thank you so much
Thank you!! This video is actually on my list to redo, as I think it is overly long and a bit old, but I'm glad it's still serving its purpose :D
I watched the whole video, but you didn’t cover what the underlying differences are between the floating point type and integer type, as well as how they are affected as they move through the various flows. Could someone “just” use large integers then divide them by some power of 10 as the time of use?
So helpful. Cheers!!
This is cool, I'm looking for a way to turn mouse up/down movement into Control Change values in Ableton. But have no idea how to create a patch like this..😂
Amazing introduction.
is the output model .tflite compatible with android project ?
Thanks for sharing this amazing Tensor demo! I changed the speech file to Steve Jobs's and tried to run it. The program itself seems working but it generated wired sequence of texts that are not even english words but in roman alphabets. I asked my GPT-4 the reason why this happens but it couldn't find the solution.
Try to increase the number of epochs to something like 100, it will give more accurate results
I'm striking harder and softer on my mouse key but it doesn't affect velocity, What am I doing wrong? (Just kidding).
Thanks a lot for the preloaded umenu with program changes, it saved me a lot of time!!! greetings!
me over here tryna find ctrl + i to find the inspection window XD Thank you for the walkthroughs <3
Thank you so much! This was a huge lifesaver. You are the best. Thank you thank you!!!!!
Just found this project... I think it's pretty great and I'm curious to see the final product! thank you!
ah! the playlist i was looking for.
Probably an excellent presentation if only i could hear it
classification ;)
Thank you for the detailed explanation! I thought there should be some way to consolidate whole project, but never dive deep enough to test it.
I appreciated your tangent - made me feel better about the amount of groaning and looking at the docs I am doing while trying to learn this!
You are so funny,hhhhh
very nice, I just discovered your channel, thanks for sharing this exciting kind of content, regards
This has great applications for vr/ar and special computing
Love this!
