being everything everywhere all at once in london with my best friend
its been awhile! I felt burnt out creatively, academically, and to be quite honest with finding myself in general so I took some time off from making videos. not that I've necessarily figured out exactly who I am, but it is crazy how much you can learn about yourself in a few months just by reflection and being open to new things. anyways, Sarah and I went to London together and had so. much. fun. we saw everything everywhere all at once and I cried so much that I actually had to hold a tissue to my left nostril because snot was free flowing out of it. it was disgusting. but the message really resonated with me and reminded me to appreciate everything just that extra bit more. enjoy this ...

It’s not a downfall. It’s reality. And reality is okay. It’s OKAY to not have everything. To not have everything figured out. To not become the mega star everyone hyped you up to be. It’s okay to just be human and call it enough. Emily and Richard had everything physically at their disposal and they were largely unhappy and disconnected from the people that matter most. The value isn’t status. It’s about just being a good person and normalizing that making mistakes and not having everything figured out is totally okay and no one should feel guilty. This isn’t a race where winning is the reward. Quit comparing yourself to the other racers. Just be glad you are in it.

It’s a cautionary tale that when everything has come easy to you, and you are in the real world competing with the best of the best, you either rise to the occasion or you fold, and she wasn’t built to rise because she was the Belle of Star’s Hollow, she could do no wrong and she was a nepo baby. Her world shifted drastically when she went to Chilton and even more when she went to Yale and she just wasn’t prepared for it. To me, she was always self-absorbed and not built for real life.

My favorite thing about Rorys story is that it is realistic and makes sense. A lot of people criticize Loreali for her parenting struggles but in reality she was a very good mother. Not perfect but very good. Rorys downfall came from 1. Her gifted status and 2. Her grandparents. Her gifted status led to her getting burnt out and her grandparents led to her being spoiled and treated like a god. To her, she could do know wrong around grandma and grandpa so she always ran to them. They pampered and treated her way better than they ever did Loreali. The tragedy of it all is she began to feel entitled after this. She becomes her grandparents, without the money or maturity, leading her to fail. Meanwhile, Loreali had been warning her from the very beginning about this reality only for rory to not listen and for Loreali to recieve blame. One of the most pivotal conversations for me is right after Rory losses her virginity to Dean. Lorelai confronts her and tries to tell her what she did wrong only for Rory to claim that Dean was hers and that she basically owned him. Thats her grandparents talking, not her mother

I love Jess don't get me wrong but the show went downhill since he got introduced because they purposely made dean super needy and rory started treating him terribly. Gilmore girls made me as a student become a bit unmotivated, so whenever I rewatch the series I only watch up to season 2 or 3 just to make myself less susceptible to becoming demotivated

I heard it was always what the writers planned. And i actually enjoyed the show knowing that this is not a success story; its a cautionary tale of many, many things. For one, Rory is spoiled. Her grandparents are wealthy and her mom is secured and self-efficient. Those are not enough to ruin her growth but they do set a foundation because A.) Rory is privileged B.) Through this privelage, they spoil Rory They coddled Rory and overpraised her which are actually bad parenting. Should you motivate and praise your child for their achievements? Yes. But every small thing is not an achievement and you need to balance this with criticism and guidance; letting your child know when they're wrong and teaching them how to improve. Lastly, Rory and Lorelai's relationship as a whole is considered a HUGE no-no. Never ever treat your child as your best friend because that has huge repercussions such as your child thinking their equal with you and/or the child being disturbed by having to know all the problems and drama you face. For example, I have read many anecdotes sharing how their parents shared everything with them, which made them feel mature, but in the long run made them feel as though they lost their childhood. Your kid is your kid, not your best friend. Best advice: you are your child's best friend but your child is not yours. Anyway, this show was never about a driven, lonely, unsociable person becoming burnt out in the future. That's a bit unrealistic for me since Im Asian and most of the time our hard work and unsocialness leads to some form of result LOL. No, this show is about a spoiled child growing up to become a Karen.

She was stupid to get pregnant and not marry Logan. If she was not going to marry him, she should have no business getting pregnant without being married. I disfavor anyone who has children out of wedlock or without getting married. I am getting married first and then having children. Do not have children if you are not getting married or before marriage. It is not hard for anyone to learn what I say here.

It is in a way very realistic, the way they wrote her. Theres a reason why they say thing mothers raise thing mothers and in a way this show represents that a little but given Lorelai's background in deciding the leave the rich and disingenuous life that she would have been more attentive and tried to guide Rory to not making impulsive decisions that end up with bad consequences (like how she lost her virginity: or slept with a married man). Statistically, a majority of our delinquents come from single mother homes (where single father homes have about the same statistics probability of two parents under the same roof); more peopole don't go to college, more people become alcoholics, more people go to jail; all from single mother households. In a way peeks at that problem, Lorelai, while witty and charming, was also a bit impulsive and slept around with a few men on the show: showing how the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Its just a new taste, different flavor.

I'd say Lorelai really seems to have a problem with trying to be the "cool" mom and just lets everything Rory does slide off for the sake of saving her "cool" mom image. The fact Lorelai has mentioned countless times that she felt trapped by her parents makes sense why she wanted to be more lenient with her own daughter but to her demise was one of the main reasons Rory turned out to be such a bad person lol. I can say my personal moment that I felt Rory started her downfall was when she kissed Tristen. now, listen. hear me out lol ik ppl might say it was just her making dumb decisions as a teen and it might not have been intentional, but it was interesting to me to see how when she got with dean she stopped hanging out with lane and then when she didn't have dean anymore bc they had broken up she ended up trying to comfort Tristen at the party. to her luck (if you can call it that lol) Tristen got dumped and she was also going through her breakup, and it gave her that chance to make her move since he was the only other guy who gave her attention. It made me think about how since maybe, subconsciously, Rory knew how Tristen was always trying to get her attention, she possibly took that chance to slide in and become, I guess, somewhat close to him. even tho it didn't go further it just made me think about how Rory seems to have father issues lol and since she grew up with just her mom, she seeked out that attention/validation from men without realizing it and shows signs of codependency at times.

  • @Pedowood

gifted millennial girl youngster hitting the wall spoiled by a trust fund safety net. everyone likes to think that they learn from their mistakes, but most will choose to be Rory and just stick to their security blanket. A lot of people are like this, and they burn through all their family's goodwill and fortune. She was always coddled and bailed out, and the writers saw this. She had an endearing personality as a kid and they are still remnants of that into her adulthood. that buys a lot of favors from people who cared for you, but the adult world couldn't give too shits how nice and quirky you are. like all medium talented rich girls her age, she cradles back into whatever privileges she has while claiming it as the result of her hard work. You can see it in the character and in the writing. People always gave her a way out of her terrible decision, yet she reveled in the (false) status of an accomplished person.

Rory was destined to fail. she was never her own person she was whatever others wanted people, Rory is pretty, smart and nice (was nice) she is “perfect”, Rory was surrounded by people who where told there whole lives that they aren’t good enough, people who feel like they where destined for more but failed because they aren’t good enough, Rory on the other hand was a chance for them to start over, without realising it everyone tried to take her under there wing and mold her to there liking, even Lorelei unitedly did, Rory was told her whole life she’s perfect and is going to achieve greatness, everyone wanted her to do what they always dreamed off but never could, everyone lived through her, even people like Jess still molded Rory, everyone in her life took her under there wing and added parts of there self onto her, When Rory was kind and sweet it was because the people around her where, when Rory became nasty it’s because adapted it from people around her and peoples past nastiness (Dean definitely started it but it was other too), Rory is used to becoming what she thinks others want, Dean wanted her even when he was married, she gave him what he wanted, and when he didn’t want her anymore she gave him that, even though what Rory did was wrong in the show Rory is guilty about it, and when her and Dean started it she asked him if they where sure they would break up, that was people like Loreleis influence however without her there to help mold Rory into the right direction she submitted to Dean and became a mold of what he wanted, Rory needs people around her to tell her what to do, she’s constantly asking for advice because she feels she isn’t capable of making her own decisions without others, that’s why when she becomes a adult, moves and gets a job she is crushed, she is incapable of making decisions and doing things, she’s been set up to rely on others, everyone was shocked when they saw how she turned out, that she was “destined for greatness” but she wasn’t, they saw it that way because they had molded themselves onto her, they tried to just give her there good parts (even tho they also gave her the bad accidentally) and they set her up to achieve greatness so they could live through her, Rory’s accomplishments weren’t hers they where everyone else’s, without people guiding her she fails, she was never a star that failed, she was failure masked as a star made by everyone around her

Just starting Gilmore girls, I only just finished season 1, and this might be a good reason why most people like the show and makes it so comforting, but like… sometimes this show bordeline goes into wattpad self insert territory. How are everyone in this town so obsessed with the Gilmore girls? Sure, Lorelai is beautiful, funny and nice, but if I lived in a small town I don’t think I’d be hung up on her words like the town does. Everyone is just ready to be stepped on by them 24/7, Lorelai doesn’t question it and that’s all Rory ever knows, so yeah of course when she is welcomed into an environment that doesn’t treat her like this, she’s all confused. And BROOOO ok I love Lorelai but this woman is so unserious. Sometimes I kinda get her parents like girl why are you always saying random pop culture references when the topic is super serious?? Someone said this in a reddit post but the Gilmore girls just shows what unresolved generational trauma does. Lorelai suffered from the way her parents treated her, swore she would never do what her parents did to her and treated Rory the opposite way, but a kid needs something in between in reality. I haven’t watched the later seasons but I’m so scared because I really do want Rory to overcome those challenges, but the good thing is that YOU can change the script of your life!

I never watched Gilmore girls but i've always heard about hoe Rory was problematic, which leads me to videos such as yours and I love character analysis. So, heres my take, i dont think people who looked up to Rory Gilmore during their college years should be worried if they'll end up like Rory. If anything, unlearn from Rory, do the opposite of what Rory did. Rory was privileged, always got what she wanted and yet she still was ungrateful and like you said threw fits when not spoiled. Always remember that real life will give you what you wanted and take it away from you in the blink of an eye, be prepared, be matured and be humbled by what you have.

Lorelei is highly flawed, yes, but also traumatized. She's been scapegoated her entire life: By her parents, by Christopher's parents, and by Christopher. Everything is HER fault. She's not enough like her parents, so they butt heads. She got pregnant at 16, so she "ruined" Christopher's life. She wrote s character reference for Luke, and Christopher took off AGAIN.
