Wing foil Crash Compilation.
Просмотров 727 месяцев назад
I was at the doctor's the other day, and the onboarding nurse asked if I'd experienced any falls recently. I told her that I fall often. I'll be standing there feeling balanced and strong, and all at once, I'll faceplant. The falls only occur for an hour or two at a time and only on certain days.
Wing Foiling April 5, 2024.

After working on this all winter, I'm becoming more consistent with foiling. Although the gusts still knock me over, I sometimes get through them. I'm getting more confident to try places I know will have more consistent wind. The water is still so cold that I have to wear mittens, which wears down my forearms quickly. After about two hours I'm unable to continue.

1st adventure on my new Cabrinha Code 5'8" Jan 2, 2024. Lake Macatawa, MI

1st adventure on my new Cabrinha Code 5'8". It's much smaller than my inflatable Macro Air 170L but so much faster. Easier and quicker to get on the foil. It was blowing 25 to 30, I was over powered. I think I would have done better with my 4M wing.
Wing foil board 1st step.

This is my first step in learning foil balance behind a power boat. I think the balance to stand is easier with a wing in your hand.
Hobie Tandem Island in too much wind

4 ft waves and 30mph wind. Reduced sail on a reach. Near the end of the video, I hit 10 mph.
Ripping out Holland channel to Lake Michigan on Inter 20

The wind was too strong to harness it properly, even with Doug and Brandon on the trapeze. We should have hit the beach and raked the mast back. It was still very fun. It's just hard to see with all the splash sometimes. We caught some person's fishing line inadvertently on the way out. She wasn't very happy with us. It's not the first time we've spooled someone's reel. But we didn't mean to.

Some of the best video I've seen sailing on rough water double trapeze. Spray everywhere the whole time, so much it was hard to see.
Inter 20 Super fun sailing.

"There is never too much wind, only too much sail"
Good call!
It's great to see the learning process & loved your quizzical introductory conversation with the nurse.😂 Do you experience falls often? I hope you showed the video. Gsoh mate.
Thanks for sharing, mate. Very few people experience this and make a video. A few of my friends rigged a small sail onto a crossbar attached across our skis. Snow was too soft to get moving on an area next to a carpark. Compacted snow would have been great, but the Perisher Valley Resort wouldn't permit us to use their slopes. Frozen lake surface would have been a blast, except for the snow drifts, ruts and hard falls.
The biggest issue with doing this is trusting the ice. There has to be a long cold spell to go on it, for me. If you fall through with ski boots on, you're dead.
Seems like just the right amount of wind to me!
Is that 4 people on that thing?
The Performance Catamaran Inter 20 can easily handle 4 or 5 adults, even in heavy wind and big waves. The hull volume is massive. I previously owned a Hobie 18, which, compared to this boat, was a toy.
Brian, i seeyou have the second generation Code. Im thinking to buy one as i like the narrower shape, but there are no reviews for this board anywhere to find. Do you like the narrower shape? Is the board good compare to first generation? Thank you.
I like the board, but it's the only one I've ever been on. I just started this sport last September.
I've got an AI (actually, 2 of them...) and I mostly sail on the Monterey Bay in California. I've got a custom jib setup, and that can boost the speed in the right conditions--not that you needed it in this video!
Looks like fun. You really took off when you got to full sail in flatter water. Sweet! Looked like you were in a washing machine at the start. 😁
I love that feeling of being tossed about in rough water. The TI is such a fun, easy boat to sail. I put it away for the season yesterday, hopefully, I can get some time before it gets too cold in West MI to focus on learning to Wing Foil.
I'm hoping to get in another sail or two in early November in my AI in SE Minn/WI. My TI in the U.P. is under wraps for the winter. Where in western MI do you sail?

Love the speed. Especially when you popped the reef out! Plus some kick from the current! Good sail.⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
Letting the whole sail out when you already feel overpowered is always fun. Amazing how fast 10mph feels. Some people can run twice that fast. It's so weird.
Agree, The feel of speed on the TI is real being so close to the water. Enjoy! @@brianbaarman5452
I love sailing my a.i. in conditions like that! Frequently found on lake erie and lake Michigan, or any big body of water.
Me too, it's an excellent boat for it.

I bought all of the parts you listed but don't know how you hooked it all up? What were the wires and power supply?

The wooden dowel is 1" diameter and I used a table saw for the slot. Did not cut it vertical to the surface but on an angle.
I've been binge watching your sailing videos. Great stuff. Send me a note. raytclark at NetZero dot net
Brian, my brother has a HTI but has never sailed without the trampolines snugged tight. Is it helpful in strong winds to roll them up? Or does it flex a bit more? He's on a lake so much flatter water; even when the wind blows.
The problem with having the trampolines attached and spread out is that the Windward one catches wind and causes the boat to tilt more and limits visibility. The problem with having them rolled up is all the pressure is on that little plastic pin. During this particular outing that plastic pin did break on the Down wind aka. This caused the boat to pitch pole. It was very exciting. Neither rolled up nor snug tight is a great option in that much wind. I was sailing In Florida that day, my dad brought me 15 miles up wind and I jibed back-and-forth going down wind on the Indian river. It was super fun.
@@brianbaarman5452 All good to know. I bet that plastic pin breaking was "exciting"! I'm sure the pin is a weak link to prevent other serious damage. Those little boats are fast. Not as fast as your Inter20 but still fast and easy to sail.
It’s a great option when I can’t find crew for the bigger boat
You need to post this over at Sailing Anarchy. I love it!

Where on Lake Michigan are you sailing out of? Have an Inter 20 that still need to get out on the big lake!
I'm in Holland. You have an Inter 20 too?
Yes. Live in Okemos. Hoping to launch from Lake Macatawa Yatch Club in spring before taking it north. Love to meet up.
