Hey! Great question. It looks like you’re in Los Angeles county which is served by the same charter school that we are part of called Heartland Charter School. They are open to new families right now. Here is the link. We love Heartland! heartlandcharterschool.com/enrollment

In California, if you are part of a charter school, you probably have to take the standardized state testing. Just ask your specific charter. If you file an affidavit as a private school, you are not required to do state testing. If you are privately homeschooling, you should keep an attendance log of the school days completed. They must receive at least 3 hours of instruction a day for 180 days a year. It’s also a good idea to keep at least a sample of the schoolwork they’ve completed throughout the year. I have never been asked by anyone to provide this though. As far as unschooling, I think most of the point is not using a set curriculum. You let the child guide their work and projects with their interests. A unit study program could work such as Gather Round units that dive deep into one topic for a month. Gather Round includes everything but math. You could also build schoolwork around a specific interest for example horses. Go horseback riding, get books at the library on horses, do copy work with facts about horses. Watch movies about horses. You could even learn to sketch a horse and use it as an art lesson. Then when the student is over horses, dive deep on their next interest. Hope that helps! 💕😊

@@maloriemendoza Thank you. I really want to unschool my children and at the same time teach them actual transferable skills they can implement into their lives. I want myself as well as my children to have full control of what we learn and whatever they want to learn whenever they want. So whatever I want to teach them and whatever they are interested in is fully ok?

If you are privately homeschooling, yes. Once you get to high school, it can get a bit more complicated. But if you are talking about 8th grade and under, yes. I encourage you to find a Wild + Free group near you, a local homeschool group, or even a Facebook group for unschooling homeschool. That’s the beauty of home education in that you get to choose what and how your kids learn. John Holt’s books are great for reference as you’re starting out. I wish you a beautiful homeschooling journey!

It depends on the charter school in that it’s usually dependent on in-person classes or not. The charter school we are a part of does not include in-person instruction, so they do not require following the recommended vaccine schedule that in-person public schools do.

Each charter school is different. I recommend asking your “teacher” or contact at your specific school and ask what their requirements are and what you, as the parent, get to choose. There are some programs (like mine) where I still get to use whatever curriculum I want and don’t have to go to classes. Other programs that are a hybrid will have scheduled classroom days and other days are “homeschool days” but are really days you do the assigned curriculum at home with little flexibility. Just take it a step at a time. The world of homeschooling is vast and it will take months, if not years, to know a lot and find your style. You got this, mama! 💕

Thanks for your comment. It is true that some products are marketed that way. However in the professional kitchen painting Facebook group (full of experts that know way more than me) they say that the longevity of these products simply isn’t there. I was going for lasting durability as I have 3 kids and a dog. If you choose to go the one step route, I’d love to hear how it holds up after 6 months, a year, etc.

You absolutely need to sand and prime. You will regret it long term.

You’re very welcome! We haven’t done high school yet with the charter school since my oldest is in 8th grade this year. However I hope to continue with the charter school into high school for many reasons. It is my understanding that we are able to still use the curriculum we want to use, but we cannot use religious material for our work samples. I will keep you posted as I go in my journey! Hi! Do you mean edges and corners of the doors? If there was a lot of extra paint, I tried to spread it with a paintbrush before I laid it down on the plastic on the floor. But honestly I did have a little bit stick to the plastic. Once I saw that, I tried to do the edges when I was painting the front side of the door so any imperfections wouldn’t be seen as much on the inside of the door. As far as inside the detailing, I didn’t really see too much paint accumulating, as long as you’re moving the spray painter quickly enough. Good luck on your project! 😊💕

If you are part of a Charter, ask someone in your organization. If you’re a private homeschooler, I would just call the local Christian schools and ask to speak to the athletic director. A lot of them don’t have enough kids to make a full team so they are more open to taking kids that aren’t enrolled at their school. Hope you find one that will let your kids join 💕

Yes this can be so frustrating. I would start with your health insurance because it’s possible for your pediatrician to write a referral to a speech pathologist and have it possibly covered by your insurance. If they won’t cover the services, you can at least have them evaluated by a professional to see if they do in fact need speech therapy. You can also use that report to help you get services through a public school. It’s a fight to get the schools to cover it too. Just letting you know to be prepared. You have to already be enrolled in the public school or charter school in order to get services. Hope you find the help you need! 🙏🏻💕

Hello Cypress Hollow Homeschool! The University of California and CSU systems have an A-G approved classes guide for high school courses that are accepted as credits. We are currently enrolled in a charter school that requires these A-G approved courses in order to get a high school diploma from their school. If we completed a Private School Affidavit in California, we could pick anything and I would do the transcript myself. I’m still deciding on the best course of action for high school. I have another year to decide.

Hi Lindsey! Wow that is a very interesting observation. My son does sometimes complain about how long it takes him to complete his math. Maybe we should both do a lesson of our kids’ math and see how long it takes us to complete 1 lesson and see if it’s reasonable? I like to take advantage of free lessons and have recently heard good things about Mr. D math and they offer some sample lessons for free.
