How dare she suggest not to have a good relationship with a DIL! My MIL was awesome. She developed Alzheimer’s. When she was endstage and knew no one, I’ll never forget the last time I saw her. In a seemingly impossible moment of clarity she initiated a hug and said "I love you"...what a gift.

Im so lucky my inlaws are amazing. Dawn is over here saying dont have a relationship with your DIL???? awful advice. I have a wonderful relationship with my MIL amd love hanging out with her. Im so glad she wants a relationship with me. Dawn is so freaking blind to herself.

I suspect that my mother also financially abused me. I didn't realize it until I went no contact though because she suddenly announced to me that I paid off my private loans for school...and the timing was strange. And whenever I would ask her how much more I needed to send, it would always take her a long time to get back to me...which is strange if she's paying it every month. And that made me think about all the times growing up where she'd just go into my bank account, take out money, and tell me after the fact.

1:01:24 im sorry, but i genuinely PREFER my DIL to my son atm after he was awful to her. I've even told her that if i were in her shoes, i would not stick around, and she deserved to be treated right. My DIL is sweet, kind, but never puts herself first. We joke constantly. My husband and i were the ones to teach her to have boundaries and to speak up if we upset her. If her and my son don't stay together. She will always be my daughter. She's the mother of my grandchildren, and that doesn't stop if they don't work. She calls us when she just needs someone to talk to for advice. I've had an awful MIL, and I absolutely will not put someone else thru that. This lady is just gross.. in numerous ways. How does she not understand just how blatant her lying and gaslighting are? Like, it's incredibly obvious. I totally see how this lady has no friends or family. I'm also a "boy mom." I have 3 sons. My husband has 2 sons, so together, neither of us had any daughters, and there are 5 sons. My husband has zero issues relating and adoring our DIL. I have zero issues relating and adoring our DIL. I'm also willing to bet she's lying her ass off about her home life growing up.

Dawn and Diane both gave me MASSIVE borderline vibes.. probably because i had a borderline mother, so similar behaviors make my hair stand on end. My womb donor also claimed she was horrifically physically abused, but i ended up learning that it was all made up BS, and her behavior was almost always like this. My womb donor could possibly claim she was neglected because she was the healthy one out of 4 kids and 3 of which had sone pretty serious conditions goibg on, and her mother was a single mother in the late 50s/ early 60s working full time to keep the kids fed and clothed. Her father was an absolute POS with a nearly identical personality as my womb donor, but he was almost always out of the picture unless he needed to show off. Her level of pure BS and exaggeration is almost impressive.

Wow, your mum sounds a LOT like how my dad behaved when my mum passed away suddenly in April 23. Like her, my dad's grief was the hugest, the most important, and therefore he got to make ALL the decisions around her funeral because she was his wife of 43 years. Never mind the fact that us three kids were grieving our mother. And that he hadn't loved her for I'd say at least 40 years of that marriage. It was a toxic environment, and honestly before she died, my sister and I were trying to convince her to leave him. But she had an autoimmune disorder that left her in a wheelchair and she didn't want to be a burden on us, so she stayed with him. But yeah, we weren't really allowed to be sad, because we had to support him. My sister and I honestly noped out of that really fast and took our kids with us. Neither myself nor my sister are currently speaking to our dad. My brother is minimal contact.

I'm against parents putting their children in therapy more times than I am for it. It teaches the child that it's the child's fault, when the child is only in therapy because of their parents.

Why is she sitting there holding an empty mug? It very much feels like someone trying to mimic what she's seen without understanding it. People may do a storytime with a hot drink for comfort, but sitting there with an empty mug is weird.

Imagine all of the many other times Dawn treated the DIL & her sons poorly prior to her comments on the porch visit. I feel for the DIL & son, immensely, as that final porch visit was just the straw that broke with camel’s back.

Narcs are so two-faced. I remember when I was teen and beginning to realize my dad (a full blown Narc) was so different from other people. He acted like a charming awesome guy one minute and the next he was like a screaming drunk blaming his family for insane things and making illogical choices to manipulate us. All I knew was that evil drunk people acted like him...but he didn't drink. So I didn't know what was wrong with him, and that what he was doing was manipulative abuse to control us and use us as his emotional punching bags. Ugh.

ETA: Just wait till this lady finds out you can be NC with your mom and still LOVE your MIL. Mine is a saint. 35:10 I will say the one exception to this (Not that it's exactly applicable to this woman, but because I struggle with it) is that people raised by parents like this often grow up under assumed suspicion and therefore adopt suspicious behaviors. I'm HORRIBLE at exactly this- my adhd is very severe and my mom weaponized my faulty memory- anything could be my fault if you insisted I forgot about it; which meant I was often trying to rationalize shit I didn't think I did, but was being accused of and was trying to logic out where that accusation came from. For example, my mom used to love to give me things and then later accuse me of theft- so something like, "I didn't take your sweater, you gave it to me? Or maybe I confused it with another sweater you gave me," I felt the need to point this out because parents like this are (time) hyper-aware of "tell" behaviors to the point that I wouldn't be shocked if some of them went out of their way to encourage behaviors that made it harder for their kids to be believed- while ignoring those tells in themselves. (And also if you are raised with a person who is shady like this that's just your model of behavior.)

I don't think Dawn even told the truth about what she said to her daughter in law when she went to meet the baby. "Does it piss you off that you worked so hard to grow a baby in your own body and then the baby popped out looking just like your husband" is such a common light-hearted joke that I got too and it's so common because babies look more like their dads than moms on average at birth. (Scientifically proven. The theory is that it is nature's method to reinforce to fathers that the baby is theirs.) The way she was talking about how "well" they were doing among the covid restrictions, and such was an evaluation of their performance as parents, and that was indicative to me that she was assessing them. I think she threw that in there and made it sound like she'd made positive assessments to "defend" herself so that if they came out and disclosed that she'd been nit-picking them as parents, especially the daughter in law as a mother, she would say "but I said you're doing a great job overall! Stop feeling so offended by constructive criticism on areas to improve on when I gave you an overall positive assessment and was very encouraging and supportive!" when in reality, no one asked for her to rate their performance on a moment-by-moment basis. That type of mother-in-law is unfortunately very common and I am so glad I don't have a mother-in-law like that. My mother-in-law is lovely. My mother-in-law doesn't assess my parenting and give the internet a summary of the results, even positively because she isn't that imperious. It's still controlling and infantilizing to tell parents they're doing a good job if there isn't a special situation calling for it (like if they were openly expressing feeling like they haven't made the right decision or something like that. Reassurance when feeling unsure can be helpful!).

My parents beat me as a kid. It was nice to see my mom and dad cower in fear when I stood up and reminded them I'm not 7 years old anymore, and the "physical discipline" game can go both ways. And they didn't want to see what I'd do to them if it went my way. They stopped hitting me after that.

I love how she acts like a previous concussion is a 'get out of jail free' card. It's like she read League of Denial, and decided all her bad behavior is a conk on the head. I've had two. I listen to my children and their significant others, validate their feelings and adhere to their boundaries and shocking, despite 2 concussions, still in loving adult relationships with them.

Changing the subject a bit; I hear that a high school teacher in the U.S. has lost all of his children students too maybe because both some of his students and some of their parents too. After he assigned to them an assignment which people in that highschool all thought was a form of emotional abuse. When people do not like what they are learning about at the time decide to go no contact with someone that is their right to do. At the same time when making that decision for themselves they must take the consequences too of maybe not believing what they have already heard from that source of information. By the way. Being a private detective for someone for free while producing a video about it while the person is complaining about their own mother too makes me wonder what is driving her own preferences on how to pass her time by running the above RUclips channel. With a very weird title for it. What does the comment mean on SickasFrick channel for example mean, "Emulate what you have been through." For sure though I can understand how the narrator of this RUclips channel takes offense when hearing the mother say the phrase, "-tough love-" though.

Why do you repeat what she says in the clips? It might be better to just respond to what she says as opposed to repeating them, unless you're doing it for emphasis.

I heard narsses don’t get much out of therapy, yet people give them ultimatums to get therapy. Geez, so many people are messed up by narsses that I feel very lucky not to have had to deal with it that much(except with a boss)

I am so sorry this happened to you. Surely must have effected your studies...Isn't it funny how Dawn can state that it took her eight times to leave her abusive husband but not see the parallel in her son making multiple times to leave her abusive ass. Very good advice to Dawn at the end.

She says she never made a scene, but also says that she had a TBI that caused mania and psychosis. You can’t have it both ways.

If someone isn't willing to go to therapy, they aren't serious about changing. Therapy isn't necessarily even a real commitment -- a therapist can't make you do or acknowledge anything unless you want to, and many therapists aren't particularly challenging to begin with. It's an incredibly low-commitment thing to agree to, if you're actually serious about wanting to make a change. Narcissistic people can't get past the idea that they could need therapy, and they're too controlling to want to risk putting themselves in a room with somebody who might make them feel inconvenienced, threatened, or seen for who they really are. -- a challenging therapist
