2018 Boston Marathon
Просмотров 5056 лет назад
Here's my experiences from the 2018 Boston Marathon running with Team With a Vision. This is by far the worst, suckiest marathon experience I've had. I was wetter and colder than I've ever been in a race, there wasn't a time during the run that the weather wasn't miserable. I was lucky enough to be guided by my good friend and proprietor of dumbrunner.com, Mark Remy on our second voyage from Ho...
2018 B.A.A. 5k

My experiences running with Peter Villa of the "How Was Your Run Today?" podcast during the 2018 B.A.A. 5k race. This was Peter's first experience guiding a visually impaired runner, so there's discussion before, during and after the race about guiding technique, what I prefer, and a couple minor bumps along the way!

Dopey Challenge 2018

POV (mostly) of the 4 races of the Dopey Challenge 2018, the WDW 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon. Had a great time running my first Dopey Challenge, and even managed to set a half marathon PR and a WDW Marathon PR during Dopey! Excuse the shudder in the low-light running footage, as my GoPro was a little shaky to compensate for the low-light, but everything daylight looks pretty good!
Sven-Saw Collapsible Saw Review

Some impresssions and thoughts on the Sven-Saw collapsible saw. Pretty handly, light and very portable saw for use in the backcountry, and something easily carried while on canoe trips or backpacking.

Review of the Inertia X-Frame by Klymit. All in all a really nice ultra lightweight sleeping pad that has some pros, but there are definitely some considerations to consider before buying.
Last long run before Dopey
Просмотров 206 лет назад
Hey, watch me run 32km on a treadmill! Luckily for you guys I've edited it down, so what was almost 3 1/2 hours for me is a couple minutes for you guys. Now that the training is done for Dopey I can really look forward to tapering and enjoying Christmas before heading down to Florida and the races!

POV and wide climbing

Quick video shot in two sessions of me climbing one of the climbs at Gravity Climbing Gym. In the video you can see a bit of the sweeping technique I use for trying to find holds for my hands and feed. Keep an eye out for a more in-depth walkthrough for some of the techniques and adaptions I've made to allow me to climb (poorly haha)

    It’s funny. I bought one of these a few years ago to augment my Z-rest and it’s been great. I don’t know why more people don’t use these that way.

      @@ScrubDaddy265 it was a nice idea for a “pad” that’s for sure. We’ve since moved on to the Big Agnes Rapide. Not quite as small or as light but is the most comfortable pad I’ve ever laid on. Well worth the weight and size.

    Great review ! Did you choose Kevlar fusion over Carbon fusion for any particular reason ? I am about to make a decision between those 2 . Thanks

    • @activeandblind5701
      @activeandblind5701 2 года назад

      We went with Kevlar over carbon fusion for two reasons. Cost was the big one, KF was cheaper that CF, and at the time fairly significant of a difference. Second was durability - KF was reputed to be a bit more able to take more of a beating than the CF, so having our kids be younger we made that choice as well. Saying all that, we bought another Keewaydin 17 last year and elected to get the CF this time and absolutely love it! Only did one short trip with it but really happy with what we got! We did not do the carbon tech package - I’d love to have it, but at IIRC $1,000 on top of the price of an already expensive canoe wasn’t worth it, plus I love the look of Swift’s woodwork!

      Ha! Never noticed it before! The only thing not a coincidence is blue being my favorite colour, that was totally unplanned, but good eye! Just picked up a new Keewaydin 17 today, so I’ll have to be more careful in my wardrobe choice for that video!

    Thanks for the good information. It looks like you've had this canoe for over a year now and I'm wondering if you've noticed any drawbacks? The only thing that worries me is the seat mounts epoxied to the hull but I know Swift has done their homework so hopefully it works well. I need to find a wife like yours who insist or carrying the canoe on a portage. What a trooper! Nice video.

    • @activeandblind5701
      @activeandblind5701 4 года назад

      The only drawback is we only have one, so when we trip with the kids I get to portage the heavy Algonquin 16 we have too. Boat has been solid, it actually makes the boat stiffer and seats more solid having them directly epoxied to the hull, so is a plus in my mind. Thanks for watching BTW!!

      Martin Spinde would love to have done the canoe in carbon, but as easy as it was to convince my wife to buy this boat, spending to upgrade to carbon would have been tough!

      I am thinking to get the Keewaydin 16 this year . In comparison between Fusion carbon and Kevlar fusion is there any difference for their stability ? Thanks in advance

    • @activeandblind5701
      @activeandblind5701 2 года назад

      @@jbehzad I don’t think you’d notice any difference in performance - I can’t tell whether I’m paddling the Kevlar or carbon boat other than the colour.

    Great review of the boat! I bought my pack 13.6 also same color at Canoecopia this year, did only one trip so far testing it but weather was bad on second day and I did not feel safe in the water and was really scared several times of capsizing in 44 degree water on the Colorado River. I took to the water not being able to see the weather with its wind guts was creating waves dangerously downstream, not noticeable from shore, by the time I was few minutes in I realized my mistake. I was alone on that section of the river and the rescue from shore back to the campground I was took several hours waiting on shore, luckily I had cell reception and could coordinated it with park rangers. The boat was not a disappoint at that time, I am not an experienced paddler by any means and have never been in such weather alone in the middle of nowhere but the canoe held me in after all. It is not a boat to challenge waves, wind guts and strong currents, or maybe it is but the only way I would do it again would be in company of more experienced paddlers, not on my own! Hi I’m considering this. Is it hardwiring? I walk the park most days on hard dirt tracks full of holes and ridges and rough paths of compressed stones. The lack of feedback worries me a bit. I trip easily on the slightest stone or fallen sticks. Would it feel that? Currently have the flat jumbo roller as pavements where I live are all uneven slabs but it wears down to easy on the park trails.
