SECCA RD 11 Monster Mointaun | PRE-MOD BATTLE | Hare scramble | 2003 CR250
Hey everyone thanks for checking out my video. I was able to make it out to Monster Mountain for the final round of the Secca series. Been racing the new Premod class which is bikes 20+ years or older. I've been racing my 2003 Cr250 that I restored a couple years back. I wasn't able to make it to the first 4 rounds. But I've raced the last 7 rounds. I won the last 6 rounds but I had my hands full here at monster mountain. I had a lot of speed but some dumb mistakes cost me. I ended up getting 3rd place after 1 hour and 30 minutes of battles. Ended up 2nd in points for the year. Excited about getting to go to the banquet. This will be my first time going so I'm ready! I'm already looking f...

Where you from brother?? We’re in west tn, just curious. Maybe can catch up sometime & ride…🤙🤙😎
I'm in Carbon hill, between jasper and Hamilton Alabama. When I'm able to ride i usually ride at the trace In Tupelo, Mississippi. But I haven't really ridden much in the past couple of years. Where do y'all usually ride at? Was thinking about going riding tomorrow somewhere.
Good riding, we missed ya at Byhalia,MS today.. I think you’d enjoy a sprint enduro ..🤙🤙🤙😎💪
@@76-thriller76 thanks buddy! I wanted to come! I’m gonna make it to one here soon I hope!
Sik!
Are you going to Byhalia,MS the 13th of this month for Sera sprint Enduro?
@@76-thriller76 I might make it to it. Have to see what I have going on. I’ve only raced one sera event before and it was at meridian ms
Yeah, we were there,, we do alot of them,, Big Mike will be with me,, the one you raced against on ta ole 86 Honda, hope to see ya there

Nice video and congrats on 1st. I miss my CR250 days, I had a 93, 95, 98 and 02. Wish I would have kept the 02, have to move to my old man bike with the 250FX, electric start and rekluse :) Glad you making the CR great again and I will see if I still have any parts left over from my 02 and give to you at one of the races. Good luck at next race.
Thanks I appreciate it! I have a 93 I’m restoring. That’s the only thing I miss about the new bikes is the electric start! I love my 03 it’s an awesome bike. Really enjoying the new pre mod class as well! Just let me know if you have anything left over. I’d gladly give you some money for it. Long as everything goes good I’ll be at the rest of the Secca races. Thanks for watching the video!
@@goonrider8875 I found the flywheel puller and some Honda hardware bolts/nuts and such. I always used a flywheel weight on my CRs. If you would like I could send with my friend Blake who is Open C rider for next race, I dont need any $. I don't think I will make the next race

@@76-thriller76 I wished I could. That’s almost 7 hours one way for me. I’ve only raced one sera race before. Might try the race in Butler Al or Alpine Al. I just started back riding here recently. Trying to ease my way into it
Got me at 28:18. Guess my flex can be that it took 3 laps for y’all to catch me and that I didn’t get lapped 😂. I grew up riding a 02 CR250 in the woods. I don’t know how you do it
Glad we got by smoothly 😅 It was a little tight in a couple spots. Same as you. My dad had a pink 93 cr250 when I was little. So Hondas just sorta become my bike of choice. I love em. And I’ve had all the brands. Just something about a Honda
Nice riding ! What all do you have done to it ? I ride an 02 CR250 in the SORCS Series and have been thinking of trying out the secca series as well . This course looked awesome.
Thanks buddy! I bought the bike prolly 8 or so years ago in boxes. Didn’t get around to fixing it until 3 years ago. I completely restored the bike 3 years ago. Sent the cylinder and head to Tom Morgan racing. He ported the cylinder and recut the head to his specs. I’m running vp 110 fuel. I never ran it stock so can’t say where or if he improved power but it is definitely a ripper and is very smooth. I’m running a keihin pwk carb, pc platinum pipe, pc r304 silencer, v force 3 or 4 reeds can’t remember. I had Jeff hill do the suspension on it. Secca and sorcs are both great venues. I enjoy both equally. Secca is just a little closer for me. I haven’t been riding the past couple years. I have to run b250 and I have no desire to run b250. Secca just added this Pre mod class 20+ year old bikes so I decided I’d get my bike back out and race. They run the Am race with 55+ and C riders. Pre mod is also 3rd from the last row. That’s why I’m catching and passing so many people. If you ride somewhere not to far I wouldn’t mind coming out and letting you take my bike for a spin. My Facebook is Michael Johnson if you have one
The engine sure sounds crisp . What gearing do you have ? Have you had issues with your rear master cylinder failing ? Mine has failed multiple times on me so I'm just curious . I've even replaced it and the new one failed as well . Thanks for the info
My usual riding spot is highland Park in cedar Town ga
@@Bfowler02 13-49 gearing. Still running a 19” rear. Kke wheels sent me the wrong wheel when I ordered them. I haven’t had any issues with the brakes. I’m running a oversized front rotor with a brembo master cylinder. Rear brake is stock. Braided brake lines on the front and rear. I’ve been to highland once. May make another trip out there. If I do I’ll let you know.
That is a nice starting course. Nice job but we all know it's mostly about the rider. 😉
Thanks! Definitely more rider then bike to going fast. A good bike sure does make you feel a lot better after the race though 😅
WHOOO!!! Love it!
Thanks buddy! I hate the whooping personally buts it’s the easiest way to let ‘em know I’m coming by and coming by quick 😅 wished I could run a horn. Hopefully after 2 or 3 more races one whoop will get the job done 😂
Yeah, we raced that,,, that’s buddy Big Mike you were battling it out with… Good riding..,🤙🤙😎
Thanks! We battled the whole race! I had a blast! Thanks for watching!
🤙🤙😎
Oh great another vid where the mowers drive around on a yellow for half of it. And the drivers in a FXT class that's supposed to be the top class can't figure out how to line up. And a puked mower. Good Lord.
Glad you enjoy.
This could be the crappiest batch of racers I've ever watched. More time spent driving around on the yellow than racing and it was left in on the vid.
I love watching the tractor race
Definitely fun to watch!
@@goonrider8875 I race flat head go karts and it's just as much fun to watch the tractors
@@AllenSteiner definitely is. Some of those flatheads are pretty nasty
Wow that thing runs sweet. I'd love to get into racing one of those. How much roughly do you have into that thing? If you don't mind me asking.
I prolly have around $6000 in it. You can build the engine which is a Kohler command twin for around $3000 minus head work. I have a set of one off custom heads on this engine. They flow enough to support 100hp. Chassis cost depends on a lot of factors. Just the parts to put a chassis together will cost every bit of $2000 with no front brakes. Then you gotta either pay someone to build you a chassis or you build your on. This is top class in lawn mower racing. You can build a competitive mower for around $3500-$4000 if you build a Briggs intek or Briggs vanguard engine. Really just better off buying one ready to go. You can find em around 3k
@@goonrider8875 well that's not quite as bad as I thought. definitely not cheap, but compared to the cost of a new 4 wheeler or similar toy, not bad. Is it true that you have to run the imow class, or whatever it's called, for the first season?
@@CK-mf6du best bet is to find the nearest track to you that races them and go check it out and talk to the racers. If you have any previous racing experience and have a little common sense you can run fxt. Most fun I’ve ever had racing was on a mod-x/cp it’s a prepared chassis with a built single. Can pretty much run em wide open all the way around if the track is good
@@goonrider8875 copy that! I've got half an idea what that amount of horsepower can do, and the wheelbase on those things makes them a glorified go-kart. Gotta take some balls to run in fxt.
@@CK-mf6du may look like a go kart but it’s nothing like a go kart lol. Most all go karts are a lot shorter then our mowers most people run a 46”-48” wheel base. Can only be 42” wide. 4” max offset. I have no offset in my chassis. I’ve been running a fxt since I was 16. Raced with the best in US and Canada. Definitely is addicting once you watched them race. Only problem is there isn’t a whole lot of support. You have to do a lot of traveling to race. I haven’t raced any the past 2 years. But when I was racing I was traveling to Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. I live in Alabama
But does it mow??
Not grass
Rips it up
Incredible

Nice work boys, we would luv to climb with y’all? U ever in central Utah want some blue clay action we got U
I could tell after that mis-shift to neutral in that corner the arm pump set in. I struggle with arm pump when first starting to ride for the day. I usually have to ride until it feels like it’s getting dangerous then take a 5-10 minute break. After that I’m good, of course you can’t do that in a race! I’ve gotta find a way to avoid the arm pump in the beginning! Edit: I swear I didn’t read the description first😅😅
Arm pump is tough. Hard to give those youngsters any slack. They are hard to run back down!
Stock?
I think it has a fmf knarly and a wiseco piston other than that it’s stock
What engine?
Kohler command v twin
What’s all done to the engine?
Billet aluminum flywheel, rods, je pistons. Has a billet reverse grind roller cam, comp roller rockers, big valves. Heads flow 165 cfm custom intake and exhaust. Modified two barrel carb runs on m5 methanol. Engine is a 46ci Kohler command v twin
That could have been much worse
i really love the sport . i think yall need to invest with some type on over roll bars just to stop things like this for happening . like 1 roll bar with 1 back support bar .
Y'all oughtta come out to east Ky some time, lots of great offroad trails and steepass hills

Thanks buddy! That red sand is pretty awesome but it can sure put a beat down on you as well 😅
I build alot of these engines for guys that are into pulling tractors. Mind me asking why you run 1 carb? I'm assuming maybe rules? Most of the guys I deal with run 2 34mm flatslides. Beautiful build!
It’s a big bore 2 barrel carb. I forget what mm it is. It’s just what I’ve always had on it. It’s a pretty simple carb and it works good. Never really saw a reason to change it. I can’t even hook what i have now lol
sounds fantastic!
Thanks buddy! I ended up getting COVID 2 weeks ago. I got all my jets and needles in right before I got COVID I put what i thought would work best in it. Seems like I hit it pretty close. Definitely runs a lot cleaner and smoother then it did before!
I was just there last week! From Michigan!
I was actually suppose to come and ride with y’all! But I ended up having a sore throat the morning of so I ended up messaging Donnie and telling him I wasn’t gonna make it. I didn’t wanna chance getting anyone sick sure enough I ended up testing the next day and was positive for COVID. This is the first time I’ve done anything since I tested positive. Is your 03 your main race bike for harescrambles? Do you have any modifications done to yours? I’m currently running a phathead and pwk airstryker and love the bike in single track and the trails but was considering getting a newer 300. I am signing up for my first hare scrambles This year
I haven’t done much racing the past couple years. I use to race a 19 crf250rx but I sold it now if I go to a race I race my cr250. I went through and completely rebuilt the whole bike every nut, bolt, bearing, dowel pins new oem cylinder oem 05 crankshaft. Had the suspension gone through and set up for me. Sent the cylinder to Tom Morgan and had him port it and cut the head for race fuel. It has a pc platinum 2 fatty with a pc r304 silencer vforce3 reeds. I was running a apt smart carb but couldn’t get the lean bog off idle to go away. So I put the tmx back on and couldn’t get it to jet out how I liked so I put a pwk airstryker on it couldn’t get it to jet out how I liked either so I had to order a couple different needles and modify my slide. Now it runs a heck of a lot better. In this video I was running the tmx. I’ve been sick with COVID and haven’t had a chance to get any videos up with the current setup I’m running. I did have a 17 ktm 300 but I could never get comfortable on it. Was to unpredictable and the suspension wasn’t all that great to me but they are awesome running bikes! You’ll love racing! Makes you push yourself to your limits which is a good thing. Treat the first lap or so like a trail ride then after that push yourself. Not sure how long the race will be but most are 2hrs long. 2hrs is a long time going as fast as you can lol. If you have any questions just let me know be glad to help.
@@goonrider8875 I too am in the process of rebuilding my CR250 for woods racing. We have a SORCS series. But I’ve done a 2009 crf swing arm, crf450 steering stem and triple clamps, 2019 crf oem footpegs, new wheels, new oem cylinder, oem rings and bearings, new crank and piston, new fmf gnarly pipe, stock silencer re packed, v3 reeds, resurfaced head 109 oct. re-geared, skid plate, hand guards, custom tuned oem showa suspension. Pretty much the whole bikes new lol. But im have the pmk carb and I can’t get it to jet right, what kit did you get?
Think of 300s as the hard Enduro bikes which they are. Like you plan on going slower than walking pace up rocky steep mountains and shit.
Need to practice getting into the fuel earlier
Do you have a gear combo you like or are you changing that each race
I just keep the same setup. Don’t race it enough to change it. Most tracks I race it at are pretty close to the same size. I ran this same gear in Texas
Good run way to show how slow I was lol.
Seen this mower run fast as all get out, guy that owns it is a super nice person and helped me figure out a long lasting issue I had in 10 min. Bad ass mower
SOUNDS BETTER THAN MY HARLEY WITH STRAIGHT PIPE !! I THINK I NEED A TUNE UP !
Soo effortless on the 500 lol made the wall look like just another hill. Nice man
What’s all done to the engine
Billet rods and flywheel, je pistons, aftermarket cam, stainless valves, roller rockers, good two barrel carb
