The Monkees Instant Replay "Where's Peter?"
#classicrock #60smusic #themonkees
Join me as I shine the album spotlight on the seventh album release by the Monkees, the 60's made for TV group. Former child actors Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz, singer-songwriter Michael Nesmith and Folk musician Peter Tork were hired as actors to play musicians in a TV show. After providing only vocals on the first two albums, the group won a battle to play the instruments and select the songs on their third and fourth album. Instant Replay in the first of two 1969 releases from the group reduced to a trio following the December 1968 departure of Peter Tork.
This album is a collection for songs from the vault dating back to 1966-1967 and new songs featur...

    What Am I Doing Hanging Round is, without doubt, one of the earliest examples of Country Rock.

      It is classic. With that song, and the songs on the first three LPs along with "Listen to the Band" and "Good Clean Fun", he was a pioneer.

    To fill in your Curcle Sky comment, Nesmith came up with an additional verse which was cool and fit in with the 1990's grunge sound. I really loved Justus, notably Regional Girl, Admiral Mike, Dying of a Broken Heart, Run Away From Life and Circle Sky.

    I typically avoid lists like this but when it comes to putting the vinyl on the turntable, I CANNOT sit thru More Of etc. Nesmith and Boyce and Hart songs shined on this along with I'm a Believer but most the rest were bubblegum to spoken word. Unlike the 1st album, my friends really had a field day with this one. Sad being it had 6 great tracks and the rest were embarrassing. This is fortunate being this solidified them to rebel over Kirshner and do their own thing. Donny left out superior songs like Words and Valleri for The Day We Fell In Love? I never played it again.

    • @BossCityBrian
      @BossCityBrian 3 месяца назад

      I agree there were several much better songs that could have replaced "The Day We Fall in Love" If you don't have a taste for bubblegum, I can totally see you not wanting to listen to More of The Monkees all the way through. They had such variety of styles in their catalog, if you liked Pop Music, they had something for everyone.

      @@BossCityBrian I really was into the 2nd season music as they moved it to an adult level. First season was the Kirshner era.
