To be totally transparent, it took three tries to get that magnesium block fire system going. I DO NOT RECOMMEND it. Save a few extra dollars and get a good ferro rod and tinder kit.

L7 snare revisited. Learning from my mistakes.

I believe I found the problem with my setup. I was leaving too much material on the anchor stick, which compromised the effect of the trigger stick.
Making an L7 snare trap. It doesn't always work right!

This video was about practicing a snare trap. Far more things went wrong than went right. But that's the point, learn your weaknesses beforehand. Theory and knowledge are fine, hands on experience is finer.

Down and dirty emergency shelter with just a pocket knife.
I like the person's comment in the last video when they told you pea stone. I ordered whole yards of it for less than 50$ each and 1 would last you forever. Smaller like the ball bearings they used to sell with the sling shot years ago as well. Don't think those big rocks are good. Big diff. on sizes and weights makes it tough.
Great but use the spine of your knife to scrape the magnesium block and to scrape the ferro rod. Save the edge of your blade.
@@Old-man-of-the-forrest I completely agree. That knife didn't have a good spine for that magnesium ferro rod. I tried, and it was just skipping off. That's when I decided to use the blade edge. Thank you for commenting.
ok video. i do have one suggestion. you used the cutting edge to strike the ferro rod. with each strike you're burning a spot on the edge, taking material away. never use the cutting edge to strike any ferro rod.
Denatured alcohol will take the pine pitch resin off your knife and not harm the blade.
@@seanfitzgibbon235 That's exactly what I used, with some #0000 steel wool. Thanks for the comment. BTW, the blade cleaned up perfectly.
Marbles are great slingshot ammo
@@texastowman233 My grandfather told me about using those, and how lethal they were. Hence, he never let me have any! I'm sure they could do some major damage. Thank you for commenting!

@@myFloridaOasis I like your way of thinking.
Absolutely something is better than nothing..
@@scoot9316 You actually get the premise buddy. I think we both agree that 'a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. Something is certainly better than nothing.
The Algorithm doesn't generally recommend such good content.
@@bwrscott1 Thank you! I'm glad you found it.
I was JUST looking at this kit last night online. For the most part, they'd be better to have than not have, but for the $30, I'd rather piece together my own kit (knife, ferro rod, cordage, a plastic tarp, metal bottle, fishing line & hooks, etc...).
@@YankeeWoodcraft It was pieced together from individual items. It didn't come as a "kit" from the store. I did a preceding video discussing the process.
@@irishprepper2a505 Yeah, I was talking about a prepared kit that they just put out and that showed up in my email yesterday. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.
@@YankeeWoodcraft no worries bud. I'll have to research that kit also.
I ended up getting a 7-in long Ferro rod on Amazon. It's about almost 3/8 of an inch thick. It's a beast! And strikes really well against my Cold Steel SRK in CPM3V Steel.
Have a suggestion for your knife. I really got into knives about 4 years ago. And became intrigued with all the different types of steel that is used to make knives. One of the things I picked up along the way was getting knife oil or honing oil. Not only does it keep your blade from potential rust, but it helps put a coating on there that allows things to come off easier. And that might help with the pine resin. PS. I'm almost positive I have those same brand of pants. I absolutely love them.
Thank you for commenting. The knife did clean up well. And the pants are Craghoppers.
@@irishprepper2a505 I just looked up the pants I got off Amazon. And chuckled a little when I saw the brand name. They are made by "Survival Tactical Gear" 🤦🏼♂️ Don't get me wrong, they are badass and I dig the "duck leather" material on the knees and the tush. As well as all the pockets. Also, I found that using gun cleaner to get stuff off my knives works really well too
@@irishprepper2a505However, the price point on the ones I got are $89. I don't know if yours have it, but on the ones I got you can insert foam knee pads into a pocket on the front of the knees and they close off with velcro. I use it a lot when I'm working. And they really are a godsend, especially when you're 49 and your knees are not what they used to be LOL. And it has the duck leather material in front of the pad. So you have that extra protection as well. I have always enjoyed the outdoors but I really got into prepping, knives and firearms about 6 years ago or more. Back when the whole BLM antifa BS was going on. That's when I bought my very first pew pew. Now I own nine different ones. Know how to disassemble and reassemble each one, clean them and how reload spent ammo. I've tried to learn everything I can because I just don't want to be one of those dorks that's like hey look at me, I got a pew pew and that's all I know. The type of guys that are carrying a shotgun and say, "How do you like my Glock?" LMFAO! I definitely did not want to be one of those guys.
@@irishprepper2a505 Oh and by the way, I am also Irish, as well as Czechoslovakian. The Irish side of my family's last name is Dunken. You got yourself a new subscriber!
Watch the end of that rope , is a shin buster , stay safe and keep those puppy curls up .
Subbed, stickin with the Irish blood.Keep'em comin. First I caught you in the suggestions.
P.S. Done with sling shot at my age. Survival for me is the Xbow pistol. 3 dozen bolts and after that it's bushcraft with parts LOL. Sure would'nt like to be stuck with that 30$ kit but thanks for letting us know what's in it. Lucky to have much better stashed all over. Going to check some of your other vids.
To properly aim your slingshot you need to turn the sligshot on its side, you can choke up on the slingshot to help support the pulling force, you then use the top corner of the upper rubberband support as the sight that you aim with at your target, pull your bands back, and your hand holding the pouch, should be resting up by your cheek while your aiming, then have a smooth release out of your fingers. Before you start shooting slingshots, you need to see which eye is your dominant eye, to do this, hold both hands straight in front of you, overlap your thumbs and fingers so you form a hole in the center between your hands, as your looking through that hole with your arms fully extended, close one eye, then the other eye, and see which eye tends to be more dominent on the object past your hands in the distance, which ever eye is more dominant, that will be the eye you use to aim with while shooting your slingshot. If your left eye is more dominant then you will use your left arm to hold the sling shot and pull with the right, if your right eye is more dominant then you hold the slingshot with your right arm and pull with the left. Hope this helps everyone out in thier slingshot shooting skills. 😎👍

He tapped into a good cross section, of harbor frieght being pooular/affordable, and peoples curiousity to see if this stuff is actually worth it. Like most stuff from harbor frieght, it will work, maybe not the best kit in the world but will get job done for most like their other tools
@@jackgreenstalk777 completely agree! Also maybe yearly timing as well? I just went camping a week or so ago, and were getting ready for hunting. I'm sure a lot of people are craving the "fall hunting season" 😉 (deer and small game etc)
Sounds like a male voice saying “go away”
We bought the HF fixed blade knife and after giving a good sharpening and hone turned out to be a pretty ok knife . It is built strong enough to take abuse and holds its edge fairly well . The hatchet at HF is actually a quite a bargain . I saw someone purchase one of those on another channel and followed their lead . Like the knife we turned it a very usable tool with a little work . Now are they top of line - no but they aren’t complete junk either . For someone on an extreme budget you can get some good use out of those .
@@bill7618 Thank you for the information.
Everything worked , great instructional video, thanks , stay safe ..
Thanks Scoot.
Fling that knife with the slingshot.
Those magnesium firestarters are more gimmicky imho. A butane lighter would do a better job. And if it runs out of fuel, remove the windguard and use it as striker on fluff.
