    lets be mindful, Mr Happyness is not married, he did not get his passport by virtue of marriage or fathering a dutch child. He applied for Dutch citizenship and got his citizenship.

    It is not enough to run away from the troubles in your country and chase citizenship in a foreign country while denigrating its educational credentials. If the citizens of the Netherlands had run away from their problems in the past, would he have gotten that passport to be boasting about? We Ghanaians and Nigerians want a better country but don't want to be part of the building process. We are so self-loving and self-centered, just like our political leaders. The true Africans are the youth in Kenya who are fighting to build the only country they have. They are not denigrating Kenya because of a mere passport. Why are we making ourselves so cheap?

    Having a Dutch passport may open many doors, but it won't change the fact that he remains a janitor. While a Dutch passport can contribute to one's opportunities, Ghanaian PhD holders directly or indirectly train professionals such as medical doctors, lawyers, engineers, pharmacists, and nurses. One crucial point we often overlook is that a cleaner will have a lower standard of living regardless of location. A PhD holder living and working in Ghana will undoubtedly have a higher standard of living than a toilet cleaner in America.

    The guy is 100% right. The point is that why is the PHD holder making so little and may not be able to build a home for his country. Corruption is the biggest problem and if it is not stopped, the country will continue to go downhill no matter how many PHDs we have. In China, Singapor, South Korea, and most countries that have risen from poverty to riches you are put to death if you cause financial loss to the country including corruption. In Ghana nothing happens to you and that is affecting the country and causing the PHD holder to be jobless or poor. We need to have very serious laws against corruption and people have to lose all assets including families assets when caught.

    Interesting conversation but tell your PhD guy to chill 😅😅. Research works by PhD holders in Ghana are thrown away, Ghanaians who had their PhD in Belarus, Hungary, Slovenia etc are even more respected than those who had theirs in KNUST, LEGON or UCC. I bet your guy won't think twice when the US government makes him an offer to take his PhD cert and give him a US passport 😂😂😂😂 MOST Ghanaians studying in the US and Europe have the hope of acquiring documentations in the long run, the education is just to make it easier 😅😅😅

    There were bus assembling plants in Ghana . One was in Accra and the other was in Kumasi . These 2 companies were manufacturing buses for Ghana govt for public transportation . ie OSA . Ex President Acheampong ( not a PHD holder ) made an agreement with govt of Germany to assemble the buses in Ghana . President Hillar Liman ( PHD holder ) started buying TATA buses from India to replace the OSA buses . Neoplan started to collapse because the govt did not buy buses for OSA but TATA buses . Neoplan laid of many workers in Ghana causing more unemployment in the country . Look at how the PHD holders caused unemployement by choosing to buy TATA buses from India . Even a non PHD holder knows that when you buy made in Ghana goods also creat employment in Ghana .

    No matter how you flip Mr Happiness statement , you can not despute him . He is 100% right . University graduates in Europe are running their country very well but those in Ghana are failing . Some went to Yale , Harvard , Oxford and etc with the white people but the whites are doing far better than Ghanaians . What is wrong with Ghana ? If you are a PHD holder in law or economics but you can not apply it for the people to feel good , then your education is meanjngless .

      Thanks for your comment. We agree with most of what you’ve said here. We also think basic infrastructure is very important to drive productivity. Additionally, the resident permits should be integrated with the relevant systems so that the full benefits can be attained. It’s still early in its use so there will be teething pains. Ultimately, we hope all of these will come together nicely for the benefit of Ghana.

    Very impressive! Any plans on writing and publishing a paper in a Journal on this? There, the team can put the performance metrics side by side with other commercial or open source ventures with regard to low resourced languages. Also, this team knows more than I do but did the team try any data augmentation methods to boost the ‘low resource’, and what were some of the challenges with that? I wish this went on for two hours! Great episode!

    • @GongsmenTV
      @GongsmenTV 3 месяца назад

      Certainly great questions! While the team has a few papers out, we’re yet to see one specifically on their translation work and how it compares with other models. Hopefully one will come out soon. On data augmentation, I suppose it’d be helpful to have a base model that’s at least capable on some level to even generate useful synthetic data. Even with that, they’d still need a decent amount of natural data which I believe is the team’s focus at this point. We certainly enjoyed this as well as you did and we plan to bring them back on soon!
