China has been dictated by the CCP and there is no freedom of speech. Their textbook is written based on propaganda, but not on the academy. Similarly, the Koreans needed to see and emphasize the Japanese as morally inferior for them to establish their national identity and pride. Otherwise, they will see many contradictions in their historical truth. One of the biggest of such is that they had been a subordinate state to China for thousands of years until they finally independent from China in 1895 when Japan beat China in the first Sino-Japanese war forcing China to make Korea an independent state. Here is the first article of the Treaty of Shimonoseki: Article 1: China recognizes definitively the full and complete independence and autonomy of Korea, and, in consequence, the payment of tribute and the performance of ceremonies and formalities by Korea to China, that are in derogation of such independence and autonomy, shall wholly cease for the future.

At the end, I know the answer. But can you ask the right question? Can you forgive and move on? Stop demanding apologies. It’s quite simple, kids do it all the time, but at such large scale as ww2, it’s hard pill to swallow. But here is the thing, NONE OF US lived through that time. All we have is responsibility to preserve unbiased truth. If you can’t acknowledge and forgive, then you don’t even stand at the starting point to betterment😢

So we discussed this issue for the rest of our Life , Matter is not about who's fault, How do we prevent us from doing same war again. Each of country should not ask other countries for apology. Maybe China and Korea just need some kind of Financial support from Japanese government ,I mean money ,instead of apology.

First, we should face the truth that current civilization fueled and formed step by step from the time that UN founded in 1945, even though hundreds years before already emerged liberty, freedom, theory of contract, etc, but limited in Minority. So, most of persons were not aware of what true civilization is. And then, we dialog and discuss today that should purpose to better our furture life by lessons learned from our past mistake and advantages as well. Criticize and Self-criticize should be hold on every level like as individules, companies, government, etc. Expecially on level of every person due we are the basic core of nature earth. Furthermore, criticize ourselves and self country more important due we live inside there. Step onward, should welcome and thankful others to criticize us, then promotion on our life.

The girl is fundamentally correct but is an idealist. The boy is correct in a realistic world system. University / Education should be free for everyone worldwide, but the reality is the world runs on money. If you can somehow eliminate money and the need for people to make money and just be altruistic in everything they do, then fine. But the reality is the world doesn't work that way. Everything requires labor, time, energy, resources, goods, and therefore costs MONEY. A university that is struggling to stay alive financially therefore has the right and MUST raise money to keep it alive and continue to give great education to its students. That's why 10% is appropriate to sell to the highest bidder / wealthy donors while not completing cutting out access to the less wealthy. It's funny how people think that we can just magically provided amazing service for free just because it is the "right thing to do". Lots of things are the right things to do, but if it is not financially responsible, then you can't do it and that doesn't make you corrupt.

The first argument i cant get behind no matter what. Im not learning Italian because I see meaning in struggle, I learn Italian so i can communicate with more people, experience their culture and their knowledge and experiences. In this case not taking the pill limits your growth. The other argument is surprisingly decent , but here i think while we would be less focused on getting to know each other better, to focus on discovering new things about our world and universal laws. The more you know and the more you learn the more questions there are to answer, not less.

(I can't think of one rn but maybe?... cuz we do talk about civil war and the japanese internment camps, though we could argue that it's downplayed) If not, what makes it that US is not doing this? (I doubt it's not but maybe because of how the government is elected which makes past crimes somewhat apart from the current one?) Interesting that a white man is chosen to be in the..... I love it. Great teaching - what the Heath Bros. call 'opening gaps'. Bottom line: The problem is that there is no standard presented. What's the standard that we refer to? If we refer to ourselves, then let's just say, "I think... I feel." If we refer to the collective, then let's just say, "Democracy, the majority says..." If we refer to the Communist Manifesto, let's just admit, "Karl Marx is my god, my standard." Ultimately, I would refer to the Bible. We might argue about interpretations, etc., but at least we will get somewhere with authoritativeness. The Bible unquestionably presents things that are easy to interpret. Other things are more difficult. Those who really want to know, will ask with a submitted heart. Those who don't really want a challenge to their worldview will not. Lastly, even people with sincere hearts will come to disagreements. That's all good. By that time, there is so much agreement, we are ready to let God sort it out when we stand before Him :)

I wish someone would challenge these people who argue against technology by injecting god, or soul, or some other ethereal phenomenon. Those of us who don’t believe in spirituality or fate don’t give a bleep about how you found your “soul-mate.” I’m not suggesting we turn everything over to technology; but let’s not be so dismissive of it, either. What’s so great about “happenstance?” If you had NOT met your partner in the toilet paper aisle, you would not be the wiser. Furthermore, what if my parents were abusive; why would I trust them? And why can’t I enjoy the beauty of a rainbow AND find a mate via a dating app? And maybe someone could mention to Yo-Yo Ma of the “is-ought problem." The arguments in this clip are simplistic and one-dimensional.

  • @leyond

Some of the comments in the video have rightly pointed out how history textbooks are used to fuel patriotism rather than give light to the truth. It is only through the truth can one really learn from past mistakes. This is especially important for the next generation, for they will be the ones who will change their country. Sadly no country leaders would want to produce a nation of apologetic citizens. Patriotism is detrimental to world peace. It makes one points fingers, whether they are the victims and aggressors. Apologies are meaningless if only given on a personal level. The importance of a country-level apology is that it becomes the base for legislative debates and policy making. It becomes part of the education. It will less likely be flip-flopped every time there’s a change in government. It’s important for all sides to learn the true history, so neither the pass aggressors nor victims will repeat past crimes. Today China is doing to the Uyghurs and Tibetans what other imperial powers done to them in the past. If you are peace-loving and just, you’ll need to call out the crimes not only of your past aggressors, but of your own. The indifference of the Hans are the same as then everyday Japanese during WWII who were brainwashed to think they were “liberating” and “civilizing” all Asian people.

    • @damamamamam

If an American businessman was to set up an international branch of his company in Belgium,if his associates and executives were to draw a list of pros and cons then the first thing that would be drafted under the cons would be language barrier, wouldn’t you agree? I assume you do, now barrier noun bar·ri·er | \ˈber-ē-ər b : a natural formation or structure that prevents or hinders movement or action It is established that a language barrier would hinder movement which in this case would be generating taxable revenue for a democracy, jobs available to people etc. have the team of executives pop a pill and remove the barrier. Language pill case closed. Subject only to the debate of taking a cognitive enhancement pill to instantly learn a language.

I remember I watched the TV program live and was heavily stressed. Those Japanese students are from top universities but don’t have knowledge to argue with those Chinese and Koreans. Those Chinese and Koreans blindly believe in each nation’s propaganda. Firstly, Japan mainly fought Republic of China but Japan rarely fought Chinese Communists. Rather, Chinese Communists created tricks to make the Japanese Army fight Republic of China. Marco Polo incident and Tongzhou incident occurred by Communists. Especially in Tongzhou hundreds of Japanese were brutally killed and this triggered Japan Cino War. During the war Japan fought Nationalists not Communist. So, if in China Chinese are taught that Chinese Communists fought Japan, then it is fake history. During the war, Mao always ran away from the Japanese Military. This story was written in " Mao: the unknown story". Manchukuo was asked by Puyi, or the Last Emperor, so the Japanese Army founded Manchukuo. Qing Dynasty was founded by Manchurians not by Han Chinese. Puyi was kicked out of the Forbidden City, so he begged the Japanese Army to establish a country in Manchuria. This story was written in "Twilight in the Forbidden City". ruclips.net/video/gBT0Gk-tmkw/видео.html Secondly, Japan was begged by Koreans to annex Korea, so Japan annexed Korea. Koreans had seen how Japan governed Taiwan, and before Korea’s annexation, Japan constructed infrastructure such as roads and bridges, so Koreans were so impressed. About Comfort women, do Koreans believe that three hundreds of thousands Korean girls were abducted to make them sex slaves? If so, why didn’t Korean men fought Japan? Korean fought Japan for the first time over this issue in 1991, but why so late? I know that Japanese Communist named Seiji Yoshida falsely confessed that he had abducted hundreds of Korean girl on Cheju island, and then Koreans began to criticize Japan over this issue. However, citizens on Cheju Island insist that this is a fake story and if it had happened, it would have been big news and would have fought Japan. Many Japanese already realized it is a fake, so they are so angry with and look down on Koreans since they continue to bash Japan over the fake history. Japanese have a tendency to learn how Japan governed Korea from Taiwan. Many Taiwanese love Japan so much due to the mutual history. Japan should be a good friend with Taiwan. Koreans should choose North Korea and China. I believe it is great. ruclips.net/video/CxpsABBgIVE/видео.html ruclips.net/video/vy4LKUwtCrM/видео.html I appreciate Wu. This Chinese girl is great. She should come to Japan and live as Japanese if she cannot be satisfied with the current situation in Chia, but at the same time I am worried about her since it is dangerous to say in that manner. In fact Chinese girl who made a speech in favor of American democracy at a graduation ceremony in an American university was severely bashed in China.

Trump tried to change the American Policy which Obama created. Trump was being kicked out by all means although Trump tried to protect American citizens' profit. I've been watching all his lectures from the 2009 justice series, and came across this one while I was snooping around. I'd forgotten that the Sandel I'd been watching was from 9 years ago. Took me aback to see the time jump. He's almost the same, almost. But that little difference is disconcerting, because in my mind I'd categorized him as "internet being/ageless".
