You give a wonderful reaction to one of my all-time favorite RUclips videos. Your comment about tap dancing was very astute. Tap dancing, which evolved in American came from, largely, Irish step dancing, Scottish clogging, and African dance influences. As for the costumes, the cut of the women’s costumes is true to the traditional costume, but no the color. In traditional Irish step dancing, dancers keep their arms at their sides. Apparently centuries ago, the early Irish Catholic Church forbade the traditional arm movements, calling them licentious. I have only heard a little bit of Indian music, but I think I have heard a similar sounding Indian instrument. Since you are interested in the music, I recommend Enya. BTW, your top is so beautiful, and the scarf really complements it.

I was never a particular fan of Goodness Gracious Me, there were a lot of sketches which fell flat. But this sketch is just glorious, it's a beautifully executed pastiche of post-pub white English pillocks "going for an Indian." Absolutely brilliant.

This was just an interval show that starts a whole phenomenon

What was so great about this sketch is that it held up a mirror to a lot of British people at this time and actually made them think about their own behaviour. From the 1970's right through to the 90's and even early 2000's there was a British drinking culture that involved going to the pub or a club on a Friday or Saturday night getting absolutely drunk and then finishing off the night by going to an Indian restaurant as the Indian restaurants used to open late. This sketch captures a lot of the common behaviour of British going for a curry at the time. Including ordering the hottest spicy dish, ordering way too many poppadoms, and sadly it has to be said being very rude and sometimes out and out racist to the staff at Indian restaurants. I don't want to say that this sketch ended that culture and I'm not saying it's gone away altogether but this sketch did get quite a few people to examine their own behaviour by holding up a mirror to them.

The 1980 movie, "Flash Gordan" had a LOT of Queen's music, some of it made just for the movie. Fun movie to watch.

In 1991, when Freddy Mercury was dying from AIDS, Mike Meyers, a comedic actor who was about to finish filming his movie, "Wayne's World" which was also a reoccurring sketch on Saturday Night Live (this was when it was still funny), Mike asked for permission to use this song in the movie, and Mike showed Freddy what they filmed and he loved it. And the Wayne's World movie, I feel, made this song, and Queen popular all over again.

You'll love to see his 1990 appearance on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. THAT appearance is what really made Jeff well known.

If you're interested, there are actually a few music acts that specialise in combining Celtic music from Ireland and Scotland with Indian styles of music. The ones I would suggest are Delhi 2 Dublin, Jiggy, and The Snake Charmer. In particular, Irish Jigs and Punjabi Bhangra music seem to mesh together extremely naturally. I recommend the song "Apples" by Delhi 2 Dublin, which combines Irish music with Bhangra as well as Jamaican Reggae.
