Galactic Polymath Education Studio (GP) creates lessons for grades 5+ that expand minds and connect classroom topics to the real world. We work directly with scientists, engineers, and other professionals to incorporate real data, current research, and human stories into activities that empower students to think bigger-learn everything!
We are a social enterprise. Scientists and nonprofits hire us to help them do outreach more easily and effectively. We work with them to translate complex, cutting edge research into FREE, high-quality lessons that provide lasting learning. Our goal is to support equitable, scalable learning to improve society, support sustainability, while compensating our amazing team for their hard work. GP is all about People, Planet, Profit, in that order.
By subscribing to our RUclips Channel and email newsletter, you help us demonstrate demand and attract work to create more free content for classrooms around the world!

Who wants a free web app to visualize and analyze sounds?
We are currently looking for beta testers and funders who are interested in supporting and testing out a web app we're developing to make it easier for the public (in or out of classrooms) to understand sound. Specifically, we want them to be able to record and upload sounds in order to visualize them as a spectrogram and waveform to see the frequency and amplitude patterns over time. And we want to have automatic extraction of basic summary statistics of sounds found in the recordings.
Currently doing this is really hard--which is something our founder Matt discovered during his PhD and is confronted with everytime he tries to make lessons related to his birdsong research. This is a side ...

Foraging Frenzy: A hands-on natural selection memory game
Просмотров 114Месяц назад
Natural selection doesn't just shape beaks it also shapes brains! To survive the winter, chickadees have evolved an amazing ability to remember where they cached (hid) food items in their environment! (Imagine if you could remember the locations of thousands of individual seeds!) This game is inspired by real research on the neurological and behavioral differences in Black Capped-Chickadees, Ca...
What Hybrid Birds Tell Us about Climate Change
Просмотров 155Месяц назад
Hybrids are more common than most people realize, and they form naturally where habitats overlap between closely-related species. These "hybrid zones" are shifting due to human-caused climate change, and this has unpredictable effects on the evolution of traits in hybridizing species. This video details current collaborative research focused on a hybrid zone in the eastern US between Black-Capp...
Are hybrids rare? A biologist explains
Просмотров 862 месяца назад
Hybrids are the offspring of two different species. While scientists used to think such crosses were unusual or rare, evolutionary biologist Scott Taylor (an associate professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder) explains that hybrids are actually super common in nature. Humans have also hybridized different plants and animals throughout history to combine desirable traits in both specie...
How to collect data? A glacial researcher explains
Просмотров 1012 месяца назад
How do scientists collect data? How does teamwork and planning come into play when you're helicoptering supplies to the top of a glacier to measure icequakes? As Dr. Celeste Labedz explains, scientists don't always have hypotheses in mind when they're collecting data. The hypotheses can come later after you describe the patterns that you find. This video supports Lesson 1 of “SciJourneys”-an op...
Kickstart innovation with a mind map
Просмотров 2503 месяца назад
Mind mapping is a technique used by scientists, engineers, and designers to help unpack or "abstractify" a problem. The goal is to look at problems or concepts in a different way to spur new ideas for creative solutions. This video helps students (or anyone) understand mid-mapping (aka concept-mapping) and apply it to their daily lives. Applications could include: identifying a real world probl...
Finding Design Inspiration in Nature
Просмотров 273 месяца назад
Step 2 of the Bioinspired Design Framework: Bridging to Biology. This is where we take our well-defined problem statements to identify a function that a current product is doing poorly. We then look for biological analogs that perform similar functions in nature as the inspiration for novel design solutions. This video supports our "BioInspired" unit, aimed at grades 9 . Students will identify ...
Want to change the world? Start by clearly defining a problem
Просмотров 523 месяца назад
We encounter devices and products in our daily lives that break, annoy, or fail us in numerous ways. This video helps support Step 1 of the Bioinspired (Re)design process: identifying specific issues with existing products in order to work our way toward novel solutions inspired by biology. This video supports the "BioInspired" unit, aimed at grades 9 . Students will identify a problem with an ...
Borrowing Brilliance from Biology: The Future of Design
Просмотров 973 месяца назад
This is an overview video about Bioinspired Design, a similar framework to biomimicry, where designers look to evolutionary adaptations in nature for inspiration. The key difference is that Bioinspired designs don't necessarily mimic the look of the thing they're inspired by. This video supports GP's "BioInspired" unit, aimed at grades 9 . Students will identify a problem with an existing produ...

I never thought of it that way. Makes sense! 🎉
A shirt :D
I know you mean the "STAND BACK, I'M GOING TO TRY SCIENCE" shirt, but now I kinda want a SciJourneys shirt! :D Merch! Merch! Merch!
bro you make good videos
Thanks, so much! Please share, like and subscribe to help us make more 😁
That's awesome

Thank you soo much. I understood the whole concept vividly through your visual representation. I had so much problem understanding the same solely through reading the literature.

👏👏👏💃💃
I love how the females are having an argument with each other, and the male is just like, "It's my time to make a move."
As I sit outside with my cat and dog, the barn swallows sit above on the wires and yak non stop. Of course the dive bombing begins when my animals start walking around. Nesting season is over and they are congregating. They never stop talking.
I watching your video from Pakistan so amazing and full of knowledge video.I appreciate you well done
