The Maria hauling a raft of booms down the Columbia
The Maria, a 26' Pod-Hull Tug, towing a raft of 15 booms down the Columbia River.
The Maria was designed and is used for log sorting/towing at a BC mill. Hull form is often referred to as a ‘pod’ boat which makes it fast and easy to build as well as capable of sitting on land (or a beach) upright, without external support. Powered by a Detroit 6-92 outputting 350 hp with a 42" prop, she is one of the more capable boats in the fleet.
The Columbia River was flowing approximately 140,000 CFM on this day, with a flow speed of 2-3 knots.

Enjoy seeing a Drop Marine 18' Sidewinder during Sea-Trials testing on the upper Columbia River, BC! This video shows some of the lightship sea-trials testing that was completed in the demanding waters of the Columbia River prior to the customer taking delivery of the vessel. The river during sea-trials was flowing roughly 120,000 cubic feet per second, with a water speed of 3-5 knots. This ves...

I want one ❤
Boom boats!!
I don't have a lake or logs...but damn I'm up for owning one of these. 😂
Is there some reason why they are not called boom boats anymore ?
thats literally just the 3d printed test boat scaled up to full size lol
1k❤
That’s possibly the stupidest boat i’ve ever seen doing the stupidest job i’ve ever seen ! Typical Canada
Thumbs up on 25 years later, companies/people still putting M&B colour patterns on things. I should track down an old 90's f250 and do the same for a mill service/welding truck.
I don't need one but I want one!
Well done infomercial. As far as looking forward to next 50 years, the resource will be clearcut before that.
😀lol I thought this was a meme.... it reminds me of the 3d print tug boat that a lot of people first print. took me a min to realize this was a legit thing.
This looks very similar to an operation on Lake Roosevelt (Washington State). Pleasure craft can get within spectator distance to watch these marinized Weebles.
can you guys build a Car please?
Did i hear a new zealand accent from one of the men in
Why does every company insist on having the most advanced technology for their builds? I doubt they would actually need to use half the equipment there to make a decent boat
Magnetic recovery, in small towns, northern properties building check, a ancient device puzzle pieces of art symbols of time.
I challenge Drop to get their boat up on plain.
All they got to do is put it on a truck and ship it to Saskatchewan.
That would be an interesting job , lets see , you must love roller coasters , and marry go-rounds , and fast elevators ! Wow I love all three are you guys on the west coast of Canada by any chance ?
When I buy a lake and need a Dozer to move my logs, I'm definitely buying Drop Marine. 🙂
Dude I want one just for fun.
How about a grapple on front, sides and rear. 😊😊
This is so well produced, very slick cuts
A few minutes in I knew I was looking at common sense Canadian engineering and design.
canadians lack common sense so how exactly does that work
We appreciate your feedback!
The TubTug!
Is this a beaver class tug boat?!
I think I could listen to that all day
Nice boat
This thing is awesome!
The navy should buy this
Where can I get blueprints for this boat ? I want to build a RC boat like this one.
Hi Joel, blueprints are not available for this boat but there are several others who have made RC models based on similar vessels. Good luck with your build!
They should put lo lift grapple on it
Better hp and efficiency and the navy is using them now
They're impressively capable boats! We'd love to supply for the Navy.
I mean I know it's designed that way but the fact it looks like it's constantly both sinking and capsizing makes me nervous.
😜
That's cool. The US NAVY have one of these.
Boomin beaver
WTF, I did not knew such boats exist :D
Had the opportunity to run a dozer boat for almost 5 years and it was an absolute blast. Rain or shine Summer or winter i was bobbin around. Loved it. If you ever get a chance to run one do it.
Sounds like fun. Why did you stop doing it ?
@@pan6593contract probably ended
I got a dumb question that is probably answered by "the amount of debris makes them unviable" but why not use jet propulsion with these sorts of boats?
Hey Justin! Not a dumb question at all! I am sure there are a few opinions around this as there are some pretty well known workboats that use jets just fine but there is a simple way to think about how propeller size and speed relates to how hard a boat can push or pull. If you think of a tractor vs a racecar it is very similar. Tractors have huge wheels that turn slowly, they produce lots of grip but cannot go very fast. Often tractors do not need much HP from their engines, yet they can pull amazing loads and do tons of work! Racecars on the other hand, have relatively small wheels that spin very fast, they have huge amounts of horsepower but would not be very good for pushing or pulling heavy things at lower speeds. A dozer boat propeller is very large compared to most boats this size (our 16' dozer has a 32" propeller), this makes our dozers more like a tractor than a racecar. Jets might work in some situations but are better suited to high horsepower and higher speed boats that do not need the "traction" for pushing or pulling. Hopefully that answers your question!
@@drop_marine Yes it does, I know when it comes to most tug boats that they get better pulling power the deeper the hull sinks into the water, so i figure thats how your dozer boats work, thanks for taking the time to answer my question
Awesome video! Looks like an amazing team to learn from and work with.
Torture testing boats looks like a dream job lmao
Absolutely! Sea-trails are always one of the best days on the job! :)
aluminium case or steel body?..
These boats have a full steel hull
Это буксирный водный мотоцикл ,не больше)
Is this Adam’s lake?
The filming was done at a few locations near Drop Marine in the West Kootenays.
I want to find one of these boats for sale not a new one just the old one that’s been used a lot. For a fun project to do don’t have a lot of money lol
Nice looking Dozer! It looks nose heavy though.
Thanks! We were doing some ballast testing so it was a bit nose heavy as we had not added any rear ballast yet. The aft hatch on the sidewinder is load rated for 2000 lbs of gear, we did a few tests to make sure the ballast was just right!
@@drop_marine Ok! Thank you so much for your reply!
Look at "sylvains shipyard " he has made a 3D printed model one .
His work is great! Amazing attention to detail!
@@drop_marine His Drop Marine tug is finished .
That looks like a Welsh coracle for the21st century........Superb
It's skookum, what do I need to know more... :-D Damn, I watched too many AvE videos to know all these words.
Haha Skookum it is! We are also big fans of AvE over here too!
oh ya she's skookum bud
Much Success !
Thank you! We have enjoyed your channel as well!
