Walnut Dragon Clock
I think this came out really well. I didn't have any chipping with the CNC, There is a void in the top right of center that I thought I could remove by surfacing it,. but it got wider as I took more and more material off, so I stopped and just went with it.
I like this design. I think I will try this again but do an inlay, so there will be better contrast. Edit, the contrast greatly improved after I added a finish. I like it a lot more now!

The Great Bear Connoisseur was a Long Dark tournament that ran from October to November 2023. Making Two Drawer Boxes with CNC

This design is based on a custom Dovetail bit that cuts the profile into the side edges of the front and back of the drawer boxes. The mating pieces are cutout with a 1/4" endmill. After that, we apply glue and then hammer them together after placing the bottom panel in the groove.. It makes for an exceptionally strong drawer box.

That's actually pretty awesome, I bet that would be easy to inlay with something, things that spring to mind are glow epoxy and glitter - maybe black gold and purple glitter pen the dragon and silver red and yellow for the fire, idk but I kinda want one.

    For those that don't know, Inlays are where you glue two different pieces of wood together and then sand it down flat so that you see the finished design with the two contrasting species of wood

    I died both runs in about the same spot for different reasons. I was sure I could make that thin ice, but I think the headwind slowed me down. I felt I made it to the snow bank.

    Just watched this. Great Run. Also there is a short cut you missed going to Tranfer Pass from BR. It is a bit like the rock fall short cut in BR. When you leave BR and enter the tunnel, after you get the torch, a bit further up on the left is a prybar. So instead of going down the steps to the lake and passing through the cave, open the locked door with the prybar, cross the bridge and just behind the rope anchor there is a GOAT short cut up then down.

      It looks like the structured buffer for the face normals may not be interpreted the same way on Nvidia and AMD. Its tricky to really debug, as I don't have an AMD GPU to test it with myself. I'm on a RTX3080ti. In the C++ code, Application.cpp BuildAssets() I declare the vertices and indices of the cube, then construct the normals for each triangle index with a cross product. I save those into a structured buffer that the hlsl shader can access. In the hit Shader I call PrimitiveIndex() to get which face the ray hit, and use that to get the face normal from the StructuredBuffer<TriVertex> vertex : register(t2); Then it has to get transformed by the instance transform matrix ObjectToWorld3x4(), but, cast it to 3x3 so it only rotates, and doesn't translate the normals. This may give you a starting point to experiment if you wanted to debug and fix it on your end. It is entirely possible I might be doing something wrong which is causing undefined behavior, which just happens to work for nvidia cards.

    I set the recursion count to the maximum of 31. (Which is the max allowed by the DXR runtime) So if two mirrors can see each other, the ray can potentially bounce back and forth 31 times before getting terminated.
