First of all, thank you for your comment. I checked this movie again. However, this movie does not seem to be stretched. Here are a few reasons why. First, if you look at the early footage, the music played by the military band is not stretched at all. Second, if this movie were stretched for some reason, the actors' movements should not be natural, but this does not seem to be the case. Perhaps you may think that the movie is stretched because of the following part. In this movie, the actors' lines are not generally fast compared to other movies. However, what we should not forget here is that this is the director's first sound film. And we should also keep in mind that sound films were in their early days. ⁠The sound is fine. The picture is stretched out. Most old movies’ aspect ratio (before 1950s) were more square shaped, now they are widescreen. It looks like this movie is stretched out to fit widescreen. I just found some other copies on RUclips that have the correct aspect ratio.
