Super Spa Race Porsche 914/4 Onboard
VW-Porsche 914/4 at Spa Francorchamps. First time racing there and got a drive through penalty due to track limits while trying to keep up with a 914/6 cylinder car on GT standard.

VW-Porsche 914/4 at Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. Entered a very competetive and fast multi class field for cars built until 1983 with our slow little 4 cylinder and drove a little bit to wild while trying to close the gap but we still had a lot of fun! Great stuff. I really enjoyed my 914 when I had one. Very underpowered but such great handling. Wouldn’t mind another!

Driver did well to catch a few slides and not to spin. Car seems to lack grip and power as it couldn't catch the Mini up ahead...

I dont recall who the driver was, but I read that when the 914 was raced at Le Mans the driver was interviewed and said he never touched the brakes throughout the race. I suspect he downshifted to slow the car down rather than tap on the brakes.
Red mustang is dangerous and stupid. He would rather fight off the 914 than the 911 that keep passing him.
Trying to drive without touching the brakes. Haha. I see now that it requires more skills, and more skills than I had when I owned one.
Title says 914/4. That doesnt sound like any 4 cylinder.
Sorry wrong. That is a 4 cyl. Those flat 4s were notoriously slow on acceleration. I know, I had one.

Belle course toute à la limite avec cette amusante auto que je connais bien. Il me semble quand même que l'arrière est un peu trop joueur pour faire des chronos maximum. Abaisser et assouplir un peu le cul, pourrait peut-être permettre de gagner une à deux secondes. Bon amusement chançard 😉

How is it there is both understeer and oversteer so close together? Clearly plenty of power but…
Its actually pretty balanced when driving alone. The course is very narrow with sharp turns, so at a wider course or f.i. the nurburgring it is neutral to slight oversteer. If we would try to reduce the low speed understeer without load (which is difficult under FIA Regulations), it might cause high speed snappiness. So at the moment we are very happy with the cars behaviour.

Great video. Good to see the 914 showing the other cars how it's done! I hillclimb a 914 in the UK and I would love to know the spec of your car as it seems to be pretty quick and balanced.
Hey Dominic, thank you very much! It is a 2.0 Liter 1973 Porsche 914 which is optimized within the FIA Regulations. Basically this means pretty limited optimization potential. Best results where achieved with increasing negative camber on both axles, repositioning the battery and using good tires.

Pity about the evil handling. It can't be great fun to race a car that doesn't want to go around corners. The 914 is renowned for strong understeer.
Funny that, a lot of the time he seems to be correcting for oversteer

I have a 914 and a '65 mustang. Surprised to see the mustang handling as well as it is. I wonder how much customization is allowed.

914 was mein erste auto! That Mustang driver is real merde.
Typical attitude from drivers of hog V8 american steel. Decent drag car but wallowing like a sow in mud through the corners. I've seen more poor drivers with american V8's powering them than any other. Doesn't NASCAR specifically cater to such drivers and vehicle capability? Anyways, awesome video! Great for fans like me to get their VW/Audi/Porsche fix!
Nah, doing well in NASCAR requires a ton more skill than that Mustang driver showed. Apparently dude has zero concept of what an apex is, and is just content to get his car pointed in more or less the right direction then rely on power. A well-driven vintage Mustang can be a pretty good track car/race car. This one was not even in the same country as "well-driven".

@@RallyeRacin9 Durch den Rennsitz haben wir einen abgeknickten Handbremshebel einbauen müssen, da kann man nicht immer sicher sein, ob die nicht doch auf einer Raste irgendwo unter der Schale hängt. Mittlerweile funktioniert aber die Anzeige im Cockpit auch wieder verhältnismäßig zuverlässig ;)
