The routine of moisturising, application of medicated creams, the environmental management etc. is all,in itself, maddening. and a huge drag on life. I'm 60, and I can seriously say this disease is life-ruining. It has undermined everything. It means an oscillating, lonely nightmare of loss of sleep, little understanding from society, sanctimonious advice from non-sufferers-and even from doctors. It's a special kind of deep fury that one feels when , at 50-something years old and having dealt with the condition for a lifetime, a doctor advises that you make sure to moisturise , or that the shower water isn't too hot. Takes a medical degree I guess. You have to navigate targeted advertising offering false hope, bloodied sheets and clothing, a changing array of potential triggers that may not even be contributing, and of course the horror of waking mid sleep and suddenly dealing with what amounts to an inescapable torture. And when it flares in such a way, the horrible realisation that plans over the next days or weeks are ruined. This has resulted in my oscillating back and forth between suicidal depression, tearful resignation and furious anger. When I was teenager, my effected genitals stuck to my nightclothes. In my 20's I socialised and kept dates ONLY on those unpredictable rare occasions when such posssiblities to do so coincided with resonably good patch. In my 30s, I realised I needed to change career to be able to deal with the condition and manage it better, so had to start alkl over again. It destroys one's self-confidence and makes joy in life constantly illusive. I sometimes wonder if I knew what I was destined to experience I might not have dec ided early on to avoid the endless suffering of the roller coaster. and throw in the towel. I certainly understand those who have made that decision.

As someone coping with an eczema flare up after not having symptoms for YEARS; this video makes me feel a little more sane. My friends most likely think I'm 'just making excuses' when I don't come to hangouts cause of my eczema, but if they knew how it felt for your body to (at the most inconvenient of times) feel like it was on fire; you'd probably not want to hangout all the time.

I suffered from eczema since 2015 when I turned 21. had rashes that did not go away despite using creams and taking corticosteroid tablets as recommended by dermatologists in our locality and avoiding trigger foods and detergents.. I tried taking collagen supplements in 2020 for a different reason but I noticed that the rashes slowly healed. I don't know if there are studies regarding the use of collagen supplements for eczema. Just my sharing my experience.

Why not lose shame and show what the skin looks like so that other people can see? This is unrelatable and only leaves people curious and ignorant about the reality of it, how it looks. I think it's important to not hide that part. I have it, it runs in my family. My grandfather had it really bad. Or maybe what we have is psoriasis. What's the distinction between one and the other?

I am 50, a Marathon runner and a long term eczema sufferer from childhood. I know I have been over using potent corticosteroids for years. After years of low to no symptoms I am currently have a major issue on my face and have been prescribed 20mg Prednisone with little advice in coming off them from my gp. I am very concerned and would love to speak with someone at the someone at the society to share my story, and get some advice.
