I hate to say it, but at 1:18 he shows that he doesn't understand the core problem. He thinks "humor" is the same no matter what it is and that's just not correct. 3-P0 saying "ugh, typical" when getting locked out during an escape is far more intelligent humor than "oh noh, meesa steppin' in doodoo!" braindead toilet humor. So it's a massive, massive misunderstanding on George's part to say that the fans only want it to be serious, that's not true at all. We just don't want the humor to be so stupid and disrespectful to the movie its in.

I never understood Jar Jar hatred. Even as a child, when I first watched the prequels, I found Jar Jar funny at least SOME of the times. But most of all, the movie characters themselves, like Qui Gon, acknowledge that Jar Jar is annoying and dumb: "the ability to speak does not make you intelligent" and such other comments directed his way. So it's not like the movie tried to convince me Jar Jar was cool, when he was in fact cringe or anything. No. Jar Jar was the comedy side kick, the party idiot, the one all bad crap happens to. Hundreds of movies have those. Even LORD of the Rings have their Pippin and Gollum for us to laugh at. Harry Potter has its Ron Wesley and Dobby who always end up hurting themselves and looking like morons. There probably isn't a famous brand that doesn't have those types of characters all over. What I appreciated about Jar Jar was that he at least was part of the story. He was useful. He wasn't just a sidekick that tags along for the ride for sheer laughs, like most of the Disney princess tagalongs. He was a native that introduced our heroes to the world of Nabu in the intro. He was instrumental in the finale, without him the good guys would not get their army to wage war on the Separatists. He had PURPOSE beyond comedy, regardless if it was hit or miss, which is mostly subjective anyway. He was there for a reason. Even as a kid I understood that and just rolled my eyes at the people who said Jar Jar should've been cut from the movie to make it better. Bro at that point you've gotta write a whole new movie. THAT was the movie George wanted to make. And after making all 3 almost everybody I knew acknowledged prequels ended up being awesome, as ROTS was absolutely massive, everyone loved it, and it tied the two trilogies perfectly. Than the prequels gave us a TON of fantastic video games, TV shows and other spinoffs, expanding the lore massively. And that was before Disney ruined anything. The prequels weren't perfect, but George made them work.

The fact that SO MANY PEOPLE feel the need to defend the Prequels should tell you all you need to know. The original trilogy is cultural bedrock. The prequels were... decent. What most fans don't seem to understand is that, for the original trilogy, George was just one man in a team of geniuses. There are notes on a lot of his original ideas, that didn't make it into the movie, and they were... bizarre. Look them up if you're curious. The reason 4-6 worked so well is because he had other people around him who, together, made a kind of synergy. Lucas is a Big Idea Guy, but somewhat lacking in the down to earth, nuts and bolts department. I still recommend RLM's reviews of Episodes 1-3. I find them much more entertaining than the movies themselves. And of course we shall not even mention The Mouse. That is simply not Star Wars. Not canon in my book. I'm still waiting for 7-9 to drop.

That being said the prequels were the ones that came out in my life-time and they are to my generation what the original movies were to our parents generation. I love them. I have all six on DVD. I've been saying this for years these are George's films. He can do whatever he wants with them. Of course people have the right not to like them but that doesn't make them bad and it certainly doesn't make him bad. He's the one who spent years coming up with the original script and decades making these all these movies. Without him we wouldn't even have Star Wars.

I had never heard people hating R2 or C3PO. Those were the original movies. Why would fans suddenly hate them? There were haters of E-Woks, because they were immersion breaking and pretty dumb. And by that point you had 2 movies before that set the tone and feel for the franchise. He should have stuck with the Wookie option. Jar Jar binks was a horrific character that isn't on the same level as C-3PO. Prequels were a good idea, with poor execution. Lucas didn't write or direct Empire Strikes Back nor Return of the Jedi. He should have relied upon other writers and directors while funneling his vision into them. He also bit off more than he could chew, where he really needed 4 movies to tell the story he was wanting to tell (a lot more world building). It didn't help that he liked to go off on massive side quests or tangents like the pod racing scene that ate up screen time and added very little to the narrative. Prequels had a lot of gems, but over all weren't that good. Revenge of the Sith was the meat of his films and was actually pretty good, but he had so little time to tell the story it felt rushed. He cut out Padme's entire character building in AotC and her love story with Anakin.

George Lucas's Star Wars prequel trilogy is a pure masterpiece, a wonderful, magnificent, exciting, significant, and extremely rich work that has greatly contributed to the story, universe, characters, lore, and mythology of Star Wars. They are the best, the greatest movies of all time, a great cult and exciting trilogy from start to finish. It's the Star Wars as George Lucas always wanted it to be. It's the best Star Wars trilogy, the greatest Star Wars trilogy, the richest, most accomplished, most complete, the best period; everything is superb: the deepening of the Star Wars universe and its narrative elements are superb and exciting, and it explores in detail the period of the Clone Wars, a crucial moment in Star Wars history. A fundamental and exciting turning point. The Clone Wars period is the best period of Star Wars. The fascinating plot that unfolds throughout the films. The rise of Palpatine, Darth Sidious, is masterfully depicted. His behind-the-scenes machinations to undermine the Galactic Republic and bring the galaxy under his control are meticulously presented. His manipulation to form a massive clone army and eradicate the Jedi with Order 66 is a central element of the story, explaining how the Galactic Empire took shape following the fall of the Republic and how Anakin fell to the dark side to become Darth Vader, a fallen hero who just wanted to save those he loved. Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader is a superb, memorable, breathtaking scene. The connection with the original trilogy is very well done. Anakin's internal conflict between his loyalty to the Jedi Order and his desire to save those he loves makes his story deep and tragic. His journey to the dark side, with key moments such as his confrontation with Count Dooku and his heartbreaking final duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar. The prequel trilogy also brought invaluable richness to the Star Wars universe, with a detailed look at the Jedi Order, Padawan training, Sith, combat mastery, and Jedi teachings. The spotlight on the Sith and their philosophy strengthened the dark side of the Force, adding depth and complexity to the saga. The political aspect of the prequel adds a new dimension to the Star Wars universe, with Palpatine's machinations in the Galactic Senate and growing tensions between planetary systems, creating a richer context for the later events of the Original Trilogy, the rise of the Empire, the fall of the Republic, the extinction of the Jedi, and Anakin Skywalker's tragic story. The expansion of the universe is also great. New planets, races, creatures, peoples, and cultures are introduced, contributing to creating a larger and more diverse world. Iconic locations such as Kamino, Geonosis, Utapau, Felucia, and Mustafar provide visually captivating backdrops for action scenes, development, and key plot moments. Beloved and iconic characters, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, General Grievous, Jango Fett, Watto, Sebulba. The action scenes and lightsaber battles are among the most memorable in the saga. Epic battles such as the Battle of Geonosis, the podrace on Tatooine, the Battle of Naboo, and the battle above Coruscant are very memorable and iconic of the saga. The lightsaber duels between iconic characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, and Yoda are executed with exceptional choreography, adding a visceral dimension to the story. The prequel also enriches the Star Wars lore with new charismatic and endearing characters, unforgettable music, "Duel of the Fates," "Across the Stars," "Battle of the Heroes," a super rich, exciting, and comprehensive lore, and a talented cast of actors, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, and Liam Neeson. Natalie Portman is superb, magnificent, sweet, sensual, and charismatic, giving her character Padmé Amidala queen and senator of Naboo an exemplary strength, determination, and courage. She's perfect, she's iconic. Her evolution from a queen to a senator, into a badass, elegant, and determined woman, is a central characteristic of the trilogy. Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson bring memorable class and presence to the screen. Their dynamic as Jedi Masters is palpable, and they convey a wisdom and determination that anchor the story in the Jedi legacy. Additionally, Christopher Lee's presence as Count Dooku adds a touch of class, elegance, and charisma, amplified by his Shakespearean speech. The prequel was the rejuvenation of the Star Wars saga, bringing real dramatic scope, real political context, stakes, new superb and iconic characters, iconic action scenes, a much richer universe, a more developed, more diverse universe, and a much more extensive universe. It expanded the lore of the saga, and complements the original trilogy being inseparable from it. The Star Wars prequel is a masterpiece, and the Star Wars trilogy is a masterpiece and together form an incredible whole, a single great story of exceptional galactic epic. The story of Anakin Skywalker, from his Jedi training to his fall to the dark side of the Force to his redemption as a Jedi by saving his son, destroying the Sith, and restoring balance to the Force. The story of the Galactic Empire, once a democratic Republic, and the story of Palpatine, his evolution from senator to chancellor to becoming the emperor of the galaxy, his manipulations to establish his authority in the senate, to create his own Galactic Empire, to overthrow the Jedi Order, and to keep Anakin with him as an apprentice. and the technological advancement towards digital, modern technologies, computer editing, special effects, to create new worlds, new extraordinary and extraordinary world-building, new peoples and to build the extraordinary story of the Star Wars prequel, a true expanded, gigantic, extremely rich universe, with infinite possibilities, exploring new planets, new peoples, new civilizations, new technologies, new worlds, just like Avatar Star Wars Episodes 1, 2, and 3 are the greatest, most monumental films in the Star Wars universe. They are a wonderful and legendary work, crucial in shaping the Star Wars world, representing the pinnacle of what Star Wars has achieved in every way. George Lucas's six Star Wars movies form an inseparable whole, a single unified entity, two facets of the Star Wars world that complement each other perfectly. These thrilling movies have shaped the construction of the Star Wars universe as we know it. Whether prequel or original, they are both true Star Wars. The prequels delve into the political dimension of world-building in the Star Wars universe, while the originals complete the heroic aspect of Anakin Skywalker's arc and the struggle against the Empire. Both are pure masterpieces of science fiction. They are one and the same. All the Star Wars movies from I to VI are pure masterpieces, cult classics, magnificent, extremely rich, thrilling, and timeless. They are unparalleled, the ultimate in sci-fi, the greatest movies of all time, featuring the best characters, the best actors, the best casts, the best scenes, the best universe, and the best stories. They embody the greatest wealth, expansion, and creativity within this universe, with planets, environments, creatures, peoples, and world-building that revolutionized cinema. The technological advancements in special effects, digital enhancements, and computer editing are unparalleled. Two epic trilogies, mythical, magical, exceptional, and timeless, complement each other perfectly, forming an inseparable whole. It's the story of Anakin Skywalker, his evolution, his descent into the dark side of the Force, and his redemption by sacrificing himself to save his son, destroying the Sith and restoring balance to the Force. It depicts the rise and fall of a dictatorship, the transformation from democracy to dictatorship, within one vast, expansive, thrilling, and incredibly rich universe with endless possibilities. It's the magnificent, unparalleled, and timeless universe created by George Lucas, a wonderful, legendary, mythical work, a monument of science fiction. George Lucas makes the films he wants; he is the creative genius behind the Star Wars universe. He has the creative vision for his story and world, and he knows the construction of Star Wars better than anyone. The prequels are the best era of the Star Wars universe. They represent the true Star Wars as George Lucas always intended, expanding the world with infinite possibilities.

What feels like hours of exposition about political entanglements was meant for children? Why does he move the goal posts, if he is still missing? 1:40 "In the first film, they absolutely hated R2 and C3PO". Is he trying to top the dumbness of his earlier statements with even more dumb statements? How the original "Star Wars" movie ever emerged under Lucas' direction is a small wonder. Liking or loving Star wars is not a requirement. Criticize the movie if you like. But most of the Criticism was ruthless and personal. I heard it since 1977 after seeing the first one in the theater, now It was not ruthless after the first one it was normal criticism. After Empire, I remember all the criticism about vader being luke's father. Its like football commentators who have never played sports, telling a player about the players lack of effort or heart. Like it or leave it or better yet, you show me how to do it. I have to suspend logic to watch any Star Wars movie, if I wanted to nitpick, I have abort 20 criticism in the first 30 minutes of the original Star wars movie.

@@anythingdisney7151 Am I responsible for some of the criticism being ruthless and personal? No. I don't think the first three movies are perfect either, but I can enjoy them. In comparison, the prequels are just not as good. Unfortunately at that time Lucas was such an icon that no one around him said "no" anymore. I thought that was widely known. Note that the first movie had to be saved in the cutting room and that Lucas did not direct the next two. As soon as he is at the helm with the prequels, the quality drops. Not sure what is problematic about observing that the prequels just aren't as good as the original trilogy. Finally, regarding critics: They don't have to better at doing the job they criticize. They only have to be good at understanding what make something good or bad. An 80 year old ice skating expert cannot outdo an ice skater but can be a lot better at analysing a performance than a very young ice skater who can technically perform the skills.

@coolcat23 The best critics are those who have played the game. They know what it takes. Outsiders can contribute, but they will never know. It's personal criticism that is not needed. It's his story, and he got to do it the way he wanted. I counted 20 issues in the first 30 minutes of A New Hope, and I still enjoyed the movie. My list - Empire, ANH, Revenge, TPM, TFA, Return, TLJ, AOTC, Skywalker. I was entertained by all of them.

@@anythingdisney7151 "Outsiders can contribute, but they will never know." Yes, you are right. I once thought I liked the practical effects of the original trilogy a lot more than the immature CGI in the prequels. However, after you have enlightened me, I now know that it was wrong of me to think that way. I simply cannot trust my eyes. And yes, Lucas is right, movies are all fake. Hence, even the worst special effects cannot detract from the experience. Whether one is immersed in a gripping story (and suspends disbelief) or majorly put off by some subpar digital effects that gratuitously decorate a non-story (effects so bad, that have you involuntarily lose focus and immersion), all that really does not matter. I now know to only trust Lucas as opposed to my own responses, because he is an insider and I am an outsider. Why TPM has not been declared cinema's pinnacle, the best movie of all time by everyone, we'll never know. Thanks to Lucas and you I now know what to think. Thanks!

Worst thing is that he probably wouldn't have sold Star Wars if the prequels were praised. It's the haters fault we got the new sequels and now they prolly regret those reviews 😂

Criticism is OK, what it became was ruthless and personal.

It's called 'suspension of disbelief'. People do it all the damn time. You know it's not real because it's a FICTIONAL MOVIE.
