Great video and thanks for sharing. A correction, if I may, that is MV Jupiter and not MV Saturn. The video has great historic value, as Jupiter had less than 2 months left in service, being withdrawn on the morning of 12 October 2010 after 36 years in service. It can be clearly seen on this video the Dunoon-Gourock car ferry was very well-used, with the car deck full. Yet politicians were not interested in fighting to retain a car ferry service or bring it back once it ended in 2011, so Dunoon is now left with the totally unsuitable passenger-only service it has now. It’s great that you captured this during its final year before it all changed.

Remember spending my childhood coming from Greenock spending my summer holidays at my granny's house on Broadway in Belfast during 70s-80s (yes holidays in a war zone !!) And remember getting the boat train late at night in Larne on these trains with nearly every window smashed , mental.

Love the sound of those old trains, a familiar sound across n.ireland growing up in the 80s. Class to see the hss at the end too. Shame it's no longer. What a vessel! Another concorde moment 😢 the way that thing crossed the Irish sea was unreal😮

I believe I was on this awful sailing as a child. gave me nightmares for years! I remember even the onboard staff being worried and shook up.

One of the best if not the best video on RUclips for the 450 Class DEMU. The ride in the power car at the beginning was very atmospheric with the sound of the traction motors. We never had modern Thumpers on the UK mainland like you had in NI, we came close with the Class 210 but this didn't `thump' - only two were ever made one having an MTU engine and the other a Paxman engine both with more than just 4 cylinders. They were considered too expensive by the Government so there was never a production run. The drivers in the video had some common sense since all pulled away gently so minimising smoke. Units showing their age, rust holes in the door, easily fixed though 2:29

Good videos of these old trains, brings back memories for sure! I remember on a still evening the distinctive engine noise of these could be heard from miles away as they headed out of Bangor towards Belfast!
