HOT CLUB OF COWTOWN - Reunion (The BLUE DOOR in OKC) 2-12-2011

At the end of their first set, I asked Elana James if the band could do one of my favorites, "Reunion", which she had written a few years earlier, about her experiences. They started the second set with it, and I gotta tell you. If any music fan's wildest dream is to sit front row and watch one of your favorite artists perform a tune YOU requested? My dream was fulfilled that night! Thank you, ...
HOT CLUB OF COWTOWN - Old Fashioned Love (The BLUE DOOR in OKC) 2-12-2011

So. My favorite Bob Wills tune is "Old Fashioned Love", right? Been following the Hot Club of Cowtown band for a few years, and in all the shows and all the albums, I had never heard them do their version of it. So what better time to go to the source, and just ASK? Whit shared with me that it was one of HIS favorites too, and that they would be glad to do it. (and for a song they don't play of...

Bob Stoops on Sports Journalists & Gundy
Просмотров 67 тыс.16 лет назад
During his Tuesday press conference, Coach Bob Stoops is asked his thoughts on the OSU Coach Mike Gundy situation.
Absolutely fabulous! Great Job!
Leadbelly did not write the song.
We got to see Arlo on his tour of the 50th Anniversary of Alice's Restaurant - FABULOUS concert. He's a master story teller, very funny, very poignant. Had no idea how versatile Arlo was as a singer and musician. When he pulled out his old 12 string to play this Leadbelly tune, it brought the house down!
I was a child when "Alice's Restaurant" came out and the radio wouldn't play it because too long. lol A 60s kid, Woody was our hero and his son did him proud. Some of us are age-of-Aquarius and let's-fix-the-world to the bone, and we will never change. The music is and was everything.
Let's giver a shout out to the OG union maid who called out Woody Guthrie. If she was this annoying to him, just imagine what a pain in the ass she must have been to management. If Woody needed fans who would Slurp his b-hole he joined the WRONG TEAM!
Every night in Pierre, SD
🙂🙂🙂
I love Arlo Guthrie! Mother taught me this age 8!
The working class and the employing class have nothing in common. There can be no peace so long as hunger and want are found among millions of the working people and the few, who make up the employing class, have all the good things of life. From the Preamble of the Industrial Workers of the World
Ok, so this chorus is the song that ice cream trucks in Colorado play. (Go look it up on youtube!) Does anyone know why???
This song borrows the tune from a song called “Red Wing”.
Too bad he became a libertarian.
Hes no longer a Libertarian, he's Independent.
I've learned "You Can't Me, I'm Part of the Union" from the Strawbs. Striking (so to speak) similarity.
ive saw Arlo tell this story live on stage in Nashville and i've seen him tell it on youtube and i always get goosebumps...steve goodman is one of the greatest song crafters who ever lived.every word he wrote in a song meant something.
You also cannot be pro-union and making jokes about featherbedding. Does that really help muster support for unions? However I do love this song, though his version is no better than average. I much prefer the Billy Bragg, Dar Williams live version where each of the performers proudly displays their union card at the end.
Guthrie's rule!!!
The battle for supremacy on the AM dial after dark in the '70's. If you grew up in rural Nebraska, it was either KOMA or KSTP !!
Listened to it “dragging main” in Crane, Texas
hahaha "the pre-ramble"
He knows everyone, he sings everything. This is no exception.
Holy crap! This is great! Wow! Harmonies! Rockin' groove. One of Leadbelly's best. Thanks!
What a great story.
Which company did this jingle?
Oh wow-there it is. Spent my teenage years waiting for the sun to go down so I could catch KOMA.
we seem to be undoing everything the unions did.
ah thanks for putting this up--KOMA was my station in Northern Wyoming growing up. Loved that station... when radio was worth listening to! ;)
Socialism now !
Are you daft? The answer is yes
Funny. Arlo still has the same delivery. Always entertaining, he was a lot of fun.
Very nice!
America IS a Union!
I thought football players were tough but apparently they cry like pussies when criticized in the media.. You have to listen all criticism good and bad if you truly want to succeed.. Last I checked there was freedom of speech and college football coaches can critique journalists when and where they want.. To reiterate I think it was the WAY Coach Gundy did it ..
+Allan Greene Well they are tough, but you have to remember these are only kids. They're in COLLEGE. What was you're mindset when you were 18-22? If they're professionals, I say criticize away...but they're not. I think they take a lot more than you think, at some point it does get a bit ridiculous. I'm referring to the "win at all costs" ridiculousness. That's fucking pressure man....LOTS of pressure. For a kid, sometimes too much. So I would think that over and put yourself in their position before you judge.
Well done for being "honest" & sharing, Arlo ! It IS a good song !
I love u monkees too bad one died
My, God. That's Arlo Guthrie???? Who knows where the time goes.
Ah the British takeover
Great video, thanks for sharing. Hot Club of Cowtown has got to be my favorite band these days, hope they get out to California soon!
Must be a true story, I've heard Steve tell it as well.
I was there- it was a great night- the blue door is one of the best things about being an Oklahoman! Really. Thank you Arlo. and thank you Greg Johnson of the Blue Door1
Wat ah man that's y ou won because if over time realy wow
would love the second half of this clip for sure.
I feel like I need to say this because so many people like me shy away from music like this - I am a black 30 year old male and this is GREAT music; if only I could hear this music on the radio or songs just like it! Go Union! P.S Arlo you are right, Glenn Beck did miss the Union in the Constitution!
Where do you live? It seems like most public radio stations have some folk music from time to time.
I had a similar experience when I saw them at the Coffee Gallery in Altadena, California a few years ago. After the first set, I asked Elana for a request, and they opened the second set with it. It was their barnburner, Tchavolo Swing, and wow, it was about ten times better than the CD version, which itself is incredible. Great performers, I see them every time they're in Southern California
These guys are always so great. I've yet to see them live. My dream would be to see them at the Continental Club in Austin, or somewhere in OK, where western music reigns supreme.
Where's the "LOVE" button ("like" isn't enough for this video). Thanks for posting.
Stoops is the man(period)
Thanks so much for posting this (and thanks to Arlo, too). Don't remember the last time I had a smile on my face and a tear in my eye simultaneously. A big moment for all fans of Stevie.
@underwoodins You mean your mom? Tell I said hello-
I love you too!
Stoops and Gundy probably get more national media exposure than anyone else in Oklahoma, and they represent our state well enough for me to be okay with that.
This was one of the highlights of that night at the BLUE DOOR! Thanks Greg! Everyone should repost this!
Thank you, great story and singing!
