*African Studies teaches you to appreciate how the world could have been different*
Global success of Swiss chocolate is not only based on quality and marketing. Even though Switzerland never formally owned colonies, it has a centuries-old tradition of involvement in global trade. This includes, since the 19th century, the production and trade of cocoa from the Gold Coast, the British colony in West Africa that later became Ghana. This has had lasting implications for economy and society both in Ghana and Switzerland.
