I get a sick at my stomach feeling when I watch this. That's a tough day for a takeoff right there. Wear your brown pants on windy days. I just about filled mine watching him take off.

You shouldn’t launch under these conditions, doesn’t has to do with skills but with flight conditions later, you will have zero speed -> dangerous

@@davidt7001 he's right on the edge of being blown back and into the lee of the ridge, with all the strong rotor that will entail with wind that strong.
@@davidt7001 If you can’t move forward towards the valley you risk being blown back over the hill, downwind into what we call “lee“. Here the wind is no longer as smooth, there’s a lot more rotor (twisty winds) and you risk that your wing collapses and worst case a crash landing into something hard, wet or electrical.

This may be a stupid question but What’s harder…. Taking off in strong winds or lite winds? And please keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about paragliding!
5 - 20 km/h is the best wind's speed for take off, otherwise you have to know that with a light wind you have to run a lot for take off . Strong wind easy take off but quite dangerous because the direction of the wind can drive you in places that you prefer to avoid sorry for my bad english

A high wind take off requires more skill. That was a bad decision to take off though, if the wind blew much stronger later in the day, he could be in trouble, always fly with a margin for error. Each glider has a maximum trim speed, with additional speed on bar. He has not taken into account 'wind gradient' One day he will be hurt, sorry to say it.

If you sit before to be far from the relief and even before the take off you will have serious troubles one day... Even experienced pilots need to follow the rules!

Wouldn't be a bit better question why you aren't allowed to do this? From my viewpoint as an European & Slavic, you are overregulated "a bit". That's why we call for example Germany Verbottenland (a land where all things are forbidden). No problem if restriction has really good, *scientifically* sound reason. But we will never respect any power trips.
