just what I needed to use up some of my fleece. Thank you.
Excellent video and advice. Thank you.
I really enjoy your videos!
from Gerry- I am always amazed how almost any color combination looks lovely in the end. God bless.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for the video. I was afraid I had too much waste on my hackle but after seeing your hackling sesh I find I get similar results and it’s nice you card it too. I just made really crazy rolags this way. Happy Tour de Fleece ❤
I so enjoyed your bit of madness! What you created is very beautiful.
What a wonderful workshop, congratulations! I must say though what a huge swing picker!!! 🐑
It really is!
I'm very, very pleased to see you are not dead, Mary. Gorgeous coloured yarn too!
Thanks for this clear andconcise video, it's something I've been wanting to do for years.
Glad it was helpful!
❤❤❤❤
So fascinating, v how it comes out greenish and turns blue in the air! Thank you for this video, Mary
What powder did you use to take the oxygen out of the water?
Hydrosulfite
Thanks Mary, I planted wode for the first time this year. I will have to give this a try.
If it is big enough use it now. I think you can get dye out of the leaves by pulping them with salt and the fibre you are dyeing but it isn’t that good an idea if you are using wool as it could felt. This saves you getting the soda ash and Hydrosulfite
So first you put oxygen in then took oxygen out? Is this needed to get a blue color out of the woad? I’ve used indigo dye before but never agitated it in order to keep the oxygen out altogether. Then it does green and turns blue upon exposure to the air. Your blue wool color is just beautiful!!!
All a bit mad. I call it the witch’s brew
I didn't find it choppy at all, but very informative- thank you!
Glad it helped!
Just found your channel, your videos are very informative. Thank you. I am still learning a lot. I love all your different wheels. I found that if I put a little oil on my wheel it just brings the wood to life. Also, I oil the moving parts. Do you do that with your wheels also?
I’m glad you like them! Yes, I oil some of my wheels but it depends. I used to put linseed oil on my old wheel every day although my new one doesn’t need oiling.
True Labrador devotion!
Aww Gigi is so cute
I would love to see the rug you weave with this kind of yarn, thank you.
I have 1 fleece done out of 2 or 3 but I will do one when I have enough wool.
How do you know which is the “butt end” of the fiber? (If that’s what you called it!!)
The butt end is the end of the fibre that was next to the sheep. It has a straight cut, as it the part that had been cut while shearing the sheep , the other end is the tip and has tapered ends . I hope this helps you
Apologies if this isn’t very clear!
@@MarkreeWoolCraft yes perfect, that’s what I assumed but this clarifies how to recognize it.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
new subscriber! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished woven fabric! you inspire me to have a go at a messier art yarn, i just ned to find a crochet or knit project it will work with...
I love watching you and how you aren't concerned about it not. Eing perfect and if there might be some dirt or vm in there but you will address it later. Thank you for your ease of teaching.
Im glad to see your prepared wool has kneps , i get frustrated over the kneps, i keep thinking im doing something wrong or i need to use a different type of fiber/ wool. Beautiful work by the way. Love the colors.
New subscriber. I really like your videos, they’re very informative and helpful. Thank you 😊
Great video with very useful information, but boy oh boy did I get sea sick with the camera moving so much.
Interesting!
Thank you, that was a lovely video! 🌻
Glad you enjoyed it!
7:03 was wondering if you could spin clean fleece without any processing, then found this video. My dogs 4 are rescues were in sympathy with your pups, lol Thanks for the video! ❤
What an amazing colour from Jacob sheep, so beautiful.
Thank you for this Mary. I'm going to give it a go, although I might aim for something finer than yours. I found watching you spin, how you adjust the tension very useful.
Amazing work!!❤
Thank you! 😄
Instant subscription from me! Wonderful work
Thank you! Welcome aboard!
Good stuff!!!!
Thanks!

That is a beautiful wheel. I dont know if I'm more impressed with it, or the fact that you are able to spin in a chair with wheels. I would scoot my self clear across the floor😂
It’s is a lovely wheel but your right, a chair with wheels is not the easiest to work with! 😂
I love the close up filming of your process.
I just found your channel, and I'm so glad I did! I can't wait to see what you do with this fleece. I dream of processing a Jacob fleece someday, when I'm not living in a teeny tiny apartment 🥲
Thank you for these tips!
Thank you, that was very informative.

I too like my yarn to look home spun. If I want “perfect” yarn I’ll buy commercial. I so enjoy you Mary. I’m also wondering if you made those beautiful baskets?
Hi Suze, many thanks for your lovely comments and I am delighted you enjoy my videos. I didn’t make the baskets. The small one came from Romania many years ago. The big one from a friend who kindly gave it to us as a thank you for allowing him collect timber in our woods
@@MarkreeWoolCraft Thank you for your reply.☺️
I just set mine up tonight and for some reason the licker is barely moving even on high. You are right about no instructions or troubleshooting. I’m hoping I don’t have to adjust the belt tension right out of the box as it’s supposed to be factory set in the right place.
The licker does move very slowly which is frustrating but I find that it does a very good job and I think that I will be able to use the wool after one pass for felting but I think it will need another pass for spinning
Looks fantastic! a real beast of a carder!
Thank you for sharing your process!
How lovely! Lisa @soulfulspinning recommended your channel and I'm glad she did
I love the sound of your precious wheel! It’s so so fast and what a joy to see an expert spinner in action! Kind regards. 🥰
