Lawn Scarification And Over Seeding
Looking mint 👌
what type of reel mower are you using?
I use a Qualcast Panther 30s push mower. The Panther was introduced in 1932 & continued in production until the 70's.
That's a great looking lawn mate!
Thank you. 🙂
Very informative Ill be sure to follow when i need to sharpen my Web WEH12R Thanks
Thank you for your kind comment. 🙂
Great video buddy, thank you for tsking time for this! 🙌 That makes a perfect sense now. Your edging is deffo best I have seen 🤙 I think this tools are worth insvesting in. Strimmer is OK but never does as good job.
@@mushy_GLX Your most welcome. 😀
Just been watching your previous videos. Where did you buy your sieve for sieving the stones out of your topsoil? Cheers
Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos. Had mine a long time. But it's your lucky day. Just looked and they are back in stock at B&Q www.diy.com/departments/stainless-steel-soil-sieve-with-5-interchangeable-filters/5055031302659_BQ.prd
@@GardeningOnALowBudget thanks mate 👍. Keep the videos coming
10mm bowling green that🎉 could you make a video of how your doing your edging? I am yet to do it on mine, since its still early days thinking to leave it for 4 weeks before doing it and then do it once or every other week.
@@mushy_GLX it's cut cut with a length of 3x2 cls as a straight edge and something sharp the cut through the turf. Then once it's done keep edges cut with edging shears. 😜
@@GardeningOnALowBudget Thanks, looks like I will be strimming same as b4 then 😂✌️
@@mushy_GLX Look me up on FaceBook buddy Gardening Onalow Budget 🙂
@@GardeningOnALowBudget I am not on facebook mate 👀 Are you on Insta?
@@mushy_GLX Cool. My Wife keeps telling me to get Insta. 🤣 Maybe I will make one later. 😂
Wow wow wow what a transformation you have made there already. Looking very nice bud and look qt them edging 🤯😍
Nice moves there buddy 🤙
@@mushy_GLX I tried. Lol
When did you get to play on Wembley?
When i was 16 years old all for about 20 minutes. lol
how long do you water for? and is it too late to start now
I water 4 times per day till the grass and grown to about 50mm - 60mm then give it it's first cut on your lawn mowers highest setting. Once grass as matured enough for regular cutting and weather is overcast i only water in the morning and afternoon but more on hot days. If your wanting to renovate your lawn now then i would do it this month or wait till spring next year. But if you do do it now use a fleece to cover it for around two weeks. It will keep birds off and help with germination. 🙂
Its filling up nicely 🤙
Wow what a progress it has already bud 👍😎
Thanks buddy. I'm mowing every 3rd day just now. Watering has stopped just now unless it really dries out. 🙂
@@GardeningOnALowBudget keep going bud and please keep us updated 👍
Did you overseed and top dress all or just patches ??
If you watch the video you will know with in 8 minutes i overseeded the whole lawn and extra on the patches. 😉
Spot on fella 👌
Thank you. 🙂
What is the equivalent mower today buddy? Yours looks like a 10 blade chain driven mower
The Webb WEH12R 30cm (12″) Hand Push Cylinder Lawn Mower with Roller is basically the same. Have a look at this Video. ruclips.net/video/KUkFh-iWzio/видео.htmlsi=6eX_OvIde4IrTpFV
Mine is only a 5 blade and yes chain driven. 😉
Looking good!
Thank you. 🙂
have a follow pal.
Thank you. 🙂
What kind of mower is this?
Look for webb weh12r
Qualcast Panther 30s. It was one of the most successful hand mowers ever made. It remained in production from 1932 until the late 1950s. 🙂
20mm set on mower?
Yes ?
That's going to look great when it takes! How do you set it on 360 mate, I'm having a right headache with it!
Once you have selected the 360 option there are two orange rings at the bottom before the stake. Turn the bottom on anti clock wise and the top on clock wise so the little bit that stick out meet up. then that it set to 360. 🙂
@@GardeningOnALowBudget cheers mate!
Same company that produces the Johnsons Premier Pitch so there should be some good results. Looking forward to seeing it in a couple of weeks.
I'm hoping so too. I just happed to be in B&M the other day and spotted only two boxes left on the shelf. Said on the box it covers up to 60 square meters but i never go with what it says on the box. I always add more. My lawn is 80 square meters so I've used the two whole boxes. I know for sure the birds are going to get some. 🤣 But yeah i hope to have a better looking lawn. The bare patches were doing my head in. And then i see yours. 😔🙄🤪😝
Nice little qualcast, I have a Webb weh12r which looks similar in model, I'm trying to put a electric dc motor on it, that's a thing apprently. Hoping to get a nicer cut with faster spinning blades.
Not seen that done. The Webb mower should be enough to give you a clean cut as it is if the blades are ketp sharp.
@@GardeningOnALowBudget You're right, my situation is I have a few smaller patches and even including some small trees so I need to stop quite often, so I don't have a lot of space to build up some speed. Still I think I can benifit from using a reel mower, I just need that blade to be spinning on its own. Also it's a nice hobby project! There's 1 youtube video someone who did the webb already. Some other people have made the Fiskars staysharp manual reel model electric over the last couple of years, or also other older ones like a McLane (USA) or Scott Bonnar (Austrailia), from gas to electric.
I would go over your lawn with a rotary mower first and then take the tips off with the cylinder mower. Once the height is down the push cylinder mower pushes easy. I add 15 - 30 KG weight to mine when I cut my lawn and I'm in my 50s. 🙂
I would go even higher and then gradually come down if Wimbledon is what you are after.
Thanks buddy. Just playing around with settings and products with this lawn. Seeing what works and what don't before i do a full renovate next year. 🙂
How's yours looking ??
@@GardeningOnALowBudget Mine looks good tbh but I am going to do full reno anyways. I just started new fencing project and looks like its will take a week or two for me to finish as garden is a mess, then it will be lawn 🙏
On 15mm it looks boss mate 👍
Will you look to get another poly tunnel for this year?? Great to see the sprouting of all the new flowers returning, and the lawn is looking schmick! A few more weeks and a bit of seed and you'll have the old boys over for a game of bowls! It looks great!
Not sure a new poly tunnel will be in this years budget mate. Plus i will need to move the shed to the right hand side of the garden to shelter it if i get another one. I might even look in to building a wood frame and the cover it in high grade poly sheeting. 🙂
Your garden is so tidy mate👏 Plants coming in nicely. Sorry to hear you wont be doing anything with your lawn this year mate, I was waiting for an update :) Its looking nice anyways and after temps will pick up it will only get better. Like on mine, it looks really good for now and overseeing is not really necessary(apart from a very small area) but I am planning to do it anyways when the weather picks up. Keep up the good work you doing buddy👍
Thanks buddy. 🙂
Was looking at tubers online. how many plants will sprout from a tuber? 1 or multiple??
1 or 2 sprout in it's first year and more in second year and so on. In the 3rd or 4th year you should be able to split them to make two plants. I get my compost from Home Bargins. 50/50 multi purpose compost & seaweed enriched compost mix the two together and plenty of stones in the bottom. 🙂
Lawn starting look boss mate, them stripes😍 and it will only get better. I love your lawn, shape, size, flattness of it👌clean edges as always 😉
Thank you. Yeah it's getting better all the time. 🙂
Sweet mate, your garden will be full of life very soon.
It's coming along nicely! Can't wait to see what it looks like in full bloom!
I just love everything you've potted. Bleeding hearts have always been one of my favorites. Looks good!
Stripes on that lawn are looking boss mate! the fert and seaweed you applied has given it a bit of a boost too!
Thanks buddy. I'm just uploading part 2 to this video. Planting Dahlias. 🙂
The garden is looking better now Spring is in the air 🌻🌼🌱
Nice mower mate, the modern Chinese Webb weh12r is based on that exact mower. But the modern Webb has a plastic rear roller instead of metal like yours, and plastic top, steel front roller. Plus the modern Webb has plastic cylinder bearing housings. Type restoring qualcast super lite panther in you tube, and you will see terror bear has a video of him totally stripping the same mower as yours down, and sandblasting it, painting it, and he changes the five blade cylinder to a ten blade. I can't find a ten blade anywhere, but if I could, would swap the cylinder out in my 1960's super panther from a five to ten cylinder. Yardbrah in America also has the same mower as yours but with a ten blade cylinder.
Yeah i love my little push mower. 🙂
@@GardeningOnALowBudget you can't beat them, no fuel, electric etc needed, get them backlapped so they are so sharp they cut with virtually zero contact between cylinder and bed knife, so hardly any effort to push, and you won't beat them. Different story if your lawn is on quite a steep incline though, especially with the older heavier push mowers, but your lawn is as flat as a bowling green, so you wouldn't even work up a sweat pushing that panther 30s. And they will last for centuries.
@@markslade9722 I also add weight on top of it so it flattens the grass more. lol
@@GardeningOnALowBudget I have done that in the past with some of my light side wheel cylinder push mowers, using cylinders filled with sand for stopping pergolas flying off, but don't need to do it with all my old vintage cylinder mowers as they are heavy enough🤣🤣🤣your panther 30s is probs about 1980's or 1990"s, and so the side casings on yours are light aluminium. But my original panther from the 50's is all steel and cast iron, then my 60's super panther the same, but the following model was the superlite panther from the 70's which is basically the same mower as your 30s, that is when they made them lighter by using aluminium for the side casings.. Only thing you may find adding more weight to yours is the rear roller nylon bushings will probably wear prematurely as you are adding a lot more weight to them than what they were designed to take, so make sure you regularly grease them.
@@markslade9722 I add about 20KG free weight rings on top of the main casing. 🤪
Yes sir!!! Mowing season is upon us! More info on the mower needed as it looks a beaut!
Qualcast panther 30s i've had is about 24 years. 🙂
I gave you a mention in description buddy. 🙂
I've seen the mention 🥰🥰🥰
Ohh bummer that mate. I had the same disaster two years back.. I feel you✌️ I do look forward to see the garden makeover mate.
Got a few things coming up and the lawn may have to wait a bit longer. Working around the lawn doing other things so it would be crazy to do the lawn first. Going to be building wooden planters and other things. 🙂
Ah no! Hope that polly tunnel can be repaired mate. Im keeping an eye out for tips and tricks on Dahlias for this year.
Polly tunnel is done mate. I use 50% seaweed enhanced compost and 50% topsoil in my pots with an inch of stones in the bottom for good drainage. 😉
That spear and Jackson unit has done a good job, I got the bosch avr1100 verticutter, and also a hand held unit on wheels, but it is hatd graft doing it manually by hand, so prefer to use my electric bosch. Looks like from the first picture you have a decent mower also that gives good stripes. Think all lawn care enthusiasts like ourselves just cant wait for Winter to pass, so we can start getting back out on the lawns properly, and getting them to wimbledon centre court standard😂
I use an old push mower like you. 🙂
@@GardeningOnALowBudget fantastic, they are the best, nothing can come close to them in terms of build quality and the engineering. Such a shame that hardly anything is made in factories here in the U.K anymore. What make and model is your push mower?
Going to look lovely when fully established, what date did you overseed and what type of seed? The video is dated two months ago, so you seeded in November if filmed close to the video date? I would have thought it would be too cold that time of year for it to germinate.
Over seeding was done with cheap seed as a test. It will be done better come March - April.
@@GardeningOnALowBudget ah right, that's good to hear as many cheap seeds are just annual varieties that die off after a year anyway, they are not perennials. There are so many different types of seeds available, but your lawn looks well exposed, so no risk of lack of sunlight there due to shading from buildings, fences etc.
My lawn does get a lot of moss but that is easy taken care of. I will be renovating it in spring and seeding with Johnsons premier pitch lawn seed. 🙂
@@GardeningOnALowBudget yeah iron easily sees to moss, being up in Scotland with the cold and wet constantly, not surprised you get a lot of moss through Winter, you don't have a Scottish accent, can detect a little Somerset or Devon in your accent. Get a video up of you old push cylinder mower👍
I was born in Reading Berkshire. Moved to Scotland in 2009. 🙂

Dahlias looking very pretty. I need to plant some in spring! 100% agree to fleecing, at any time of the year, just to keep the moisture in, and birds out!
Thank you for watching. Yes i love my Dahlias and my Gladioli. I'm storing them in the attic in our bunglow this year as i had to start all over again with new ones this year as i lost them all to last years -10c temptures.
